I just upgraded my storage on my ally yesterday to the WD 2tb. Used Joey's retro handheld video actually and it went super smoothly no problem and when you're done it's like you were never even there. You pick up right where you left off.

9:01 I am a Legion Go owner with a 1TB SSD and I agree on the hoarding thing. It seems most people complaining about the storage size on the these PC handhelds are trying to shove their entire library onto the device regardless of whether or not they'll actually play the games to completion in a decent amount of time.
yeah, i agree. i had to have an honest conversation with myself about how much space i actually need. after buying so many games on the switch, and never actually playing most of them, i decided to take a different approach here on the Ally. loving it so far! I've finished about 7 games in the Ally
If there is a sale in any platform steam, epic, etc just buy it even tho you still have a lot of games that haven't played yet if you really want that game tho and its 50% or 80% off just save you more tho because you don't know when the sale will come again or you will wait again for black friday or boxing day sale.
New Ally owner here, never knew about the battery care thing... switched it on now as I game with it plugged in 95% of the time anyway, thanks for the tips!

Please turn on bypass charging too while you play so that electricity will bypass the battery and just power up the components while you play. It will eliminate heat from battery if you play this way, probably making the device cooler.

I love the Ally.. it's so powerfull for such a small handheld. Emulates everything i throw at it, dock it to my tv, upgraded the ssd.. its just a blast! And VRR is amazing.. everything is buttery smooth! BTW: update to 335 to fix a performance issue.

I installed the launcher recently, guiding me with your video, I installed the plugins and the hero theme but the background videos do not appear when I open a game, how they are placed in the background of games

3DGameMan has been uploading videos on your favorite game recently. Also, I recently got one of those charging cables that has the LCD on it showing how many watts is going into the device. That would be handy so you could actually see how many watts is going into the Ally while you're playing.

and so, your game saves are available on a desktop PC? Does the ROG have cloud saves so i can continue playing where i left off ?
depends on the game client you use but yes it is for all my games

How do u disable Armoury crate booting up when the rog ally boots up and how do u put it to playnite instead is it in the settings in one of them or do I have to mess around with the system settings
you can stop Armoury Crate from booting up until the Armoury Crate settings. then under Playnite, you enable it to start up when you boot. your command center (left button on Ally) will still work
Hey how did you have those filters in the Fullscreen mode for all the stores?
go to desktop mode, create filter for each store, then go back to fullscreen mode
My point exactly on the storage . Unless it came stock, I’m not too worried about upgrading the storage . My desk top has 3TB worth of SSD storage . But this is meant to be a last minute on the go device . Something I’m able to pass time with but not dedicate my whole day to.

i have a large drive connected to my dock. i keep the games im currently playing on the internal drive. games that im hoarding on only want to play on a bigger screen stays on the dock connected drive.

How do you make those custom tabs section for steam games, epic games, etc. on full screen mode?
i created a filter in desktop mode for each section. so for gamepass, i filter for the category then save. create for each and you're good to go!

I have a Steam Deck, I love it, a masterpiece in its own right, but it's been 2 years and I need a more powerful handheld to play games like, Starfields, Remnant 2, Returnal, and EA FC 24. Would you recommend getting an Asus Rog Ally (have they fixed the SD Card issue?) or a Lenovo legion go, which one out of those 2 should I get? Thank you
i only have experience with the Ally and I really recommend it. it is everything i want in a handheld. powerful, beautiful and not too heavy. from what I've read though, the microsd card issues still remain!
can the launcher personalise each game TDP and input method like armory crate, the thing is I need to adjust fan speed but can you do it outside armory crate ?
sadly not. it can just launch games and that's it. looks prettier though!

@@stilb25 not necessarily. you can customize game settings once in armoury crate, then never need to worry about it again. it should till follow your settings when you use other launchers like playnite

Playnite is great, I keep mine in desktop mode and use controller companion to simulate mouse/keyboard. I prefer the desktop mode because I spend more time customizing playnite than actually playing anything else installed

If you pay attention the latest update made the screen look washed, colors ain’t vibrant as it used to and the deep blacks looks ashy grey 😢 even manually recalibrating not fixing this, it’s like the pixels are over illuminated even at lower brightness. this is definitely something needs to be fixed and talked about more !

Certainly does. And it’s no scrub either, I can play Lies of P 1080p low settings with uncapped and getting constantly between 60-70 frames. Smooth gameplay 90 percent of the time (if not higher). 1080 looks real good on such a small screen too.

my fullscreen hero doesnt have different launchers just all recent most played and favorites. ALso doesnt have videos in the background of games.

@@Geekception now it’s just a matter of power and compatibility. Whenever i need more power and windows i use the ally. But im still attached to the steam UI and the input sytem it provides with more back button and trackpads. For spiderman its great on the Ally. Nice on the steam deck .

I've got a rog ally z1 model not extreme and i like it so far ...my games on it : Elden ring Dark souls 3 Mortal kombat 1 Need for speed Unbound Resident Evil village Ratchet and clank a rift apart.

That playnite looks amazing. I fear it would eat up battery even more though. I ordered an Ally at bestbuy for $100 off, went to pick it up, and then immediately returned it while i was there without opening after much thought. I ordered a steamdeck oled and just figured that would be a better fit, but id be lying if i said i kinda wish i just tried out the ally for a bit.
ah dang. there was another universe you did try it, just not this one haha. how is the steamdeck oled btw?
Steamdeck oled is just like ios where the software is created nicely for you so you dont need much effort to get it started immediately, rog ally is more open with more freedom to tweak stuff that can ultimately make a game perform better.
I got my Z1 Extreme through BestBuy. It was an open box so I picked it up for $497. Looks and plays like new. It was just missing the small white stand.
@MarkRobey is your left stick a little loose feeling? Both feel pretty loose but it kinda feels like the left one is a little easier to move around. Mine didn't come with a white stand either, open box.

How you get more storage to work
you can replace the storage but removing the screws on the back, removing your current SSD and putting one with a bigger capacity
I love my ally. But im on my 3rd one. Asus is a pain but they are making good updates and fixing or replacing bunk units (even tho that's its own thing). Long story short. Super happy i have one. Super happy i didnt sell my xbox and shield tv pro and replace them with that. I take care of my nice sh*t but i doubt my ally will last 2 years based on my experience on my previous 2. Great time to be alive tho and have this stuff in your hand.

@@wildlifesaskatchewan first one was a busted open box left joycon dead. Second got stuck in a reboot during a game update. I. Not a tech guru but have some kids who are and a lot of patience for this stuff and I couldn't even get it back into bios. Reboot reboot reboot reboot reboot. These models were both pre r 8 serial #(not sure if there is any validity to that) my r 8 model is good but barely a month old. The process thru best buy is also a pain as Asus is kinda great, but also kinda sh***y and best buy knows it and wants nothing to do with it. Causing confusion and disinterest between the 2 companies. I had to track down my area's geek squad DM to finally just give me my r8 model as my repair process was brutal and they told me device was ready 2x and it wasn't.
@@jjayala uh oh I just ordered an open box from Best Buy online . Had one for $250 off . Says I can get 4 years of warranty with Best Buy for 250 so might do that lol
great video and all but what i dont get is why people wanting to turn off boost mode just to save what a couple of battery sacrificing and limiting the powerful hardware to get some more juice out of it it was design for peak performance then you'll gonna dial all of its power down might as well just pick up a steam deck oled that thing caters more to you than a rog ally with all its power being held back just to save battery, just buy a modcase strap in a powerbank play at least 18 watts and cpu boost on you'll have a blast if you just play less, demanding games or you want to save battery to play games just get a steam deck oled btw im not talking to this guy here im talking to people in general limiting all its capability for a tiny juice of battery i find it stupid just buy a steam deck oled
i mean to each their own. i personally want to game at maximum performance always but i can understand some people who want to play on battery too. provided we all have fun, it's all good!

from all I've read on the rogally subreddit, I'd say go for the z1 extreme if you can afford it. just an overall better experience
The Z1 extreme is more future proof if you are planning to play AAA games as these get more demanding.

@@Geekception actually it ain't even true. For starters, I do not have a Rog Ally yet (would want want the Z1 Extreme model) - currently I am rocking the Steam Deck as my main PC and it's just as you'd expect, works just like a ordinary PC. With a external monitor, mouse & keyboard with a hub that also has slots for sd cards, so it's purpose theoretically. Although it is seen as a sin to have windows on the deck, but it just runs perfectly fine in my case. In the beginning I noob'd out and did something wrong with the installation which resulted in blue screens, but after tinkering with it, getting the windows 10 to go ISO, it has never happened since even with undervolting. Runs battlefield 4/1, RUST and Wolfenstein games pretty much flawlessly.
These are honestly great substitute for desktop PCs since it's a middle ground between a laptop, tablet and a desktop PC, console. Truly worthwhile.
Though I'm not too sure about content creation whether it is feasible to render actual big projects with these types of devices. That's something maybe you might be able to answer to.
Also, although I said it wasn't true - I have steam os customized in all (wine) red accents with a Rory Mercury wallpaper + boot logo :p
On Windows it's all cyberpunk 2077 theme
yeah if i had a Steam Deck I'd totally install windows too. reason being i have games from epic and game pass.
in regards to content creation, i was actually able to do some video editing on the Ally. of course it's not as fast as my primary editing machine but it was okay in a pinch actually

Everyone: yeah ROG ally rocks!... everything else sucks....but I don t know...a HANDheld that has to plugged in or otherwise you only have 1 hour of gaming time....sounds very poor to me...If you have to plug it in....better off buying a desktop or console.

I follow the folks who say: very close but handheld isn t there yet.
