Absolutely 100% correct. Reverse edge forward grips greatly limit your range of motion with the blade. Looks good on tv but any edged weapon defense or offense trainer will tell you the exact same thing:
@@acidlab9586 none of the training I’ve had ever recommended or taught it as an offensive or defensive grip. Maybe for a specific motion, but if your knife only has one edge, you’re greatly limited on how you can use it. Knife flat, blade inside, point at a downward angle, elbow bent.

As a young man I was known to like sharp edges, loud guns, fast cars, and slow women. Unfortunately, I never used a single weapon over 90% of the times I was confronted. I also realized that pulling one usually escalated the situation. With age has come some wisdom. If you walk around looking for trouble you will definitely find it. If you avoid troubled areas and mind your own business you may never once need to draw a weapon. Knives are cool but unless you sneak up on someone a gun will usually win the day..
Older man here as well. While what you’ve said is true in a general sense, we both know that there are people out there who only understand the language of violence and will happily escalate the situation for us. We don’t train and carry to handle normal circumstances and generalities, but the exceptions, which, unfortunately, seem to be becoming the rule more and more each day.
Just my two cents as a HEMA practitioner, I would strongly advise against ever using reverse grip for anything really, but especially defence. You have an extremely limited range if motion in the parry with an already small blade with very limited viable options to follow up. note that I mean no offence, just some friendly advice from experience
@@chickengod9885 I agree parrying with nothing but a knife and no off hand weapon isn't favorable if you don't want to initiate a grapple, but you might be forced to in a pinch and reverse grip definitely won't make that easier

In Canada a fixed blade may not be concealed by an article of clothing. Do you have a alternative way to carry so it is never concealed? Smaller blades are ok on a pocket clip but cover up the handle with your jacket for example & now it’s considered a concealed weapon.
What clip do you use on the Kydex sheath? I have a horrible little blade that I got from Walmart. Which is my first mistake but once sharpened works just fine. Unfortunately now the blade doesn’t stay in the Kydex sheath. And I can’t carry scout style. What could be a solution?

Very nice piece lots of people carry their blades exactly as you showed where they can’t pull the piece out without hitting themselves in the side of the head with their shoulder. No matter how many people in the comments babble on about just carrying a gun instead 😂 you can’t believe how many think everyone is or has access to a firearm. Nevermind the fact that 9/10 close quarter scuffles end up the the gun carrier flat on the floor and the blade user wiping off his blade in a state of shock .
I wouldnt use a knife in a fight. If no one is around and that person pulls out a gun to shoot you, theyll say to law enforcement they were the ones protecting themselves and not you. Best to always have a gun or simply run tf away.
I just stick it in my front pocket with a cord I can grab and pull it out. Some people would consider that dangerous but I know my right front pocket is strictly for a knife. I can get it faster than anything on the belt. I've practiced and tried every way I can think of and this is the way I settled on.

It won't man! He is so backwards it's not worth explaining.
the government is trying to make self defense illegal and they are attacking guns not criminals
Smith and Wesson knife?
@Michael-xp5mw🤡🤡🤡
I will need to have a body build like yours to conceal anything 😊
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👏👍
I like front 10-11 clock scout position tipped a bit,,,fast AF..Fixed blades are deadly,no joke
That knife looks awesome. I’d like the link to it.. and the holster plz…
Just my two cents as a HEMA practitioner,
I would strongly advise against ever using reverse grip for anything really, but especially defence. You have an extremely limited range if motion in the parry with an already small blade with very limited viable options to follow up.
note that I mean no offence, just some friendly advice from experience
Reverse grip works really good for knives. Kali, a deadly Filipino martial art, uses the reverse grip for alot of techniques.
You cannot Parry with a knife anyways, This isn't resident evil 4, so why even try?
@@chickengod9885 I agree parrying with nothing but a knife and no off hand weapon isn't favorable if you don't want to initiate a grapple, but you might be forced to in a pinch and reverse grip definitely won't make that easier
@@chickengod9885 I have heard of Kali but don't know much about it, My experience is from a strictly european background so of course I do not know everything. I don't doubt that reverse grip can be made to work in some situations in other martial arts but from a pragmatic point of view I personally think that a regular forward grip is much less situational and plain easier to "pull off" which is what you'd want in an emergency situation.
@@szymonj1804No, you literally cannot Parry with a knife. It's hard enough to do it while calm and collected, but with adrenaline coursing through your veins, your better off just dodging or stabbing back till there's an opening for you to run.
The difference between a knife and a gun is a knife is up close and personal, and you better be ready to put work in, cuz it's a lot to stab somebody to death. (Real)
You see, anyone could've said that, but you say it the way only one with experience would say it. Do tell:)
Any edged weapon instructor will tell you the number one rule in edged weapon defense/offense is: you’re going to get cut.
Right, only a few know!
Careful what blade you have in your state, and especially concealed.🇺🇸👍
Because we live in a free country...
@@aarongerdts216 there are laws also for carrying knives, especially concealed.
I know we live in a free country dude!!
Duh!! Just use common sense, if that's possible for you!!🇺🇸🤔
Wait till a judge reads you what is considered a concealed weapon
While I prefer a fixed blade to a folder I carry the folder for convenience as I have a full size 9mm iwb on my left and two 20 round backup magazines on my right.
Never even thought of a fixed blade as an EDC but I will be doing now
Most places won’t allow you to conceal a blade larger than 6 in.
The way he is carrying is illegal in most states
Wow Hunter Biden out here making EDC knife videos now 😂
Can’t be! This man isn’t smokin meth
@@jamesmorrison7989whoa whoa whoa that'd be crack! The Methies don't want his kind associated with them!
Pro tip: only dress shirts get tucked in. This will both: 1. Help the shirt conceal the blade 2. Make you look normal and not like a dork.
Thanks for the "pro" tip, I am afraid the dork thing cannot be helped!
Tip for you. Don’t carry a knife to a gun fight!
It's crazy when there's a London night walk tutorial video
In Canada a fixed blade may not be concealed by an article of clothing. Do you have a alternative way to carry so it is never concealed? Smaller blades are ok on a pocket clip but cover up the handle with your jacket for example & now it’s considered a concealed weapon.
Thank you again for the tutorial I always enjoy the look forward to it😊
He definitely seems like the kind of guy who would totally need a fixed blade knife at all times 😂
So tactical, so badass 😂
I love scout carry in the front for my fixed blade, comfortable to sit with, easy and quick draw, just one of my favorite ways to carry
Not bad, i really like how the sword draw position fixes that Inconvenient issue of the vertical draw
Custom scabbard or included with the knife?
Excellent info and video. Winter is coming, so remember arm yourselves in "layers".
What sheath /knife combo is that?
Sounds positive when you click it down.
What clip do you use on the Kydex sheath? I have a horrible little blade that I got from Walmart. Which is my first mistake but once sharpened works just fine. Unfortunately now the blade doesn’t stay in the Kydex sheath. And I can’t carry scout style. What could be a solution?
Excellent tip on reholstering
I just outbid a bunch of people on eBay for Hogtooth Ruffian! Brand new with a Black handle and Green liner. I’m super stoked for it
Can confirm that is how eBay works
Slick. It really pays to think for yourself. I’m definitely going to try this. Thank you.
I see the pocket wear of your jeans pocket and am wondering what you were carrying that day as a folder (edc) in your right pocket
Mines like, para cord around shoulder, tip up, so right under my armpit kinda, recently enjoying carrying fixed blades. Never need it but that’s why.. it’s a last ditch
wow thats so elegant. In the summertime, I rely on a t shirt to conceal my 18" craftsman chainsaw. I carry it in the 7:45 position so as not to threaten anyone, yet it's easily accessible having had my right arm surgically removed for no reason at all.
Would love to know what jacket that is! Thanks for the suggestion/example
Yes I carry a fixed the same way. Left handed though so opposite carry.
My question is what's in your pocket as a folder? I see the clip. Just curious
Never disappointed. Nice work.
Amazing carry option! Very practical.
I agree 100% ... It's actually the best way to carry a fixed blade or even a handgun for a quicker draw .. you explained it very well 👍🏽
This just changed how small i've been keeping my fixie carrie for convenience. Can definitely go bigger!
What fixed blade is that? It looks pretty sweet
Thank you for your tutorial I really enjoyed it and look forward to any future editions
Learn something new every day. Thx
Outstanding work
Yea I Carry scout owb or 11 o clock iwb tip down with both positions and get the same result much more comfortable
Cool. Where do you carry your firearm?
Great video!
What Jacket r u wearing, it’s cool !
I wouldnt use a knife in a fight. If no one is around and that person pulls out a gun to shoot you, theyll say to law enforcement they were the ones protecting themselves and not you. Best to always have a gun or simply run tf away.
What’s the brand of that cool jacket?
Have a question what clip or something are you using? Thanks Kyle
So what you gonna do with the knife hombre? It's those damn voices again, isn't it?!!😵😵😂😂
We just gotta make friends with the voices, they have your back!😜
😂😂
I'm just curious about how many shirts and pants you've ripped putting your knife back in the holster 😅
What’s the knife ? What’s the scabbard thing it’s stuck in ? Does it come with the knife ?
I edc a fixed blade as well, but personally, I prefer using an ulticlip and carrying in the pocket.
That's pretty cool. I use a sling. What knife is that by the way?
Hey what jacket is that, it looks great
What knife is that? It looks awesome I want one
where do you keep your bow and arrow? Also notice you seem to have forgotten your ring mail.
What knife and jacket is that?
I just stick it in my front pocket with a cord I can grab and pull it out. Some people would consider that dangerous but I know my right front pocket is strictly for a knife. I can get it faster than anything on the belt. I've practiced and tried every way I can think of and this is the way I settled on.
It would be nice, but I would need a CCL to carry a knife like that. Here, fixed blades must be viewable from 3 directions or is a concealed weapon.
What knife is that ?
