Thanks for this video sure helped me out from taking my jeep to the shop this whole deal would of cost me 800 dollars at the shop you saved me that 800 and I spent 54 dollars on the part quick change and I let my vehicle sit over night all problem gone thank you very much appreciated
Wow, so helpful! I’m trying to change mine out not because of the malfunction issue but because my parking brake is completely chipped and hard to look at lol. Just bought the part today so excited haha thanks for this!
Hey man awesome video!! I just replaced the button you’re talking about. I got the park brake to disengage. But after putting it in park. The park brake won’t disengage. Do you have any suggestions??
@@jasonlong8430 you may have a possible stored code in the system that needs to be cleared out and the computer is probably setting the brakes on. Try plugging your old switch and see if that will unlock your emergency brakes. Otherwise you may need a scanner to see what the computer is seeing.
Sir, can you please help. In your video the parking switch light is off and inoperable. Mine does function on/off when I engage the button. On the dash display, it does have the ((P)) symbol illuminated with a “service park break” message. Additionally, the check engine light is illuminated. The car won’t drive forward, nor will it reverse. Is that due to the common EPB issue? Jeep Cherokee Sport 2014.
It may be related to the electronic brake, or it might be something else this video only covers if you’re not able to switch it because the switch is bad this car didn’t have a check engine light it had a code for the switch range.
@@TheEnthusiastMechanic Thank you for responding to my question. I had to take my vehicle to the dealership for repair. A private mechanic wasn’t able to fix it. Apparently the TCM stopped communicating and it threw the computer out of whack. I had to have the TCM reprogrammed and now the vehicle is back up and running.
@@Phillians413 I have the same issue with my 2015 Jeep Cherokee. Did you get it towed to the dealership? Also, how much did it cost to repair. Thanks in advance!
I had to hit my brakes hard on freeway today and my cup with juice fell forward without realizing. There was some on parking brake. Everyone was fine. Later today started up and automatically electronic parking brake service comes on. Check park brake" appears. When i put my seatbelt on it shifts properly and i can drive. Parking break switch lights up normally so its not dead like in this video. Safe to say there are no electronic issues with lights or anything but the" P" is on my dash. Must need to get new switch its annoying. Im pssd
So basically I could do this myself since I know that the switch is what's wrong. I don't need to connect it into the computer after I switch out the switch?
@TheEnthusiastMechanic one guy suggested that it might be the brake pads and I just changed them today They were pretty warn out, I disconnected the battery for half hr after and still saying service electronic brake system
Brake lights will not come on if you have a bad brake switch those simple things don’t turn it on. You may wanna take it into a repair shop replacing the brake pads is not gonna really solve your issue.
My car have the circle P and it won’t go forwards or backwards but it will crank and start. It will park. It says service Electronic Stability. Please help I slam on breaks really hard and hit my yard pole in my yard.
Sounds like you need to take it into a shop or dealership. That’s not the same issue that was shown in this video. Unfortunately, there’s no advice I can give you.
I have this issue with my wife's jeep I have tried 2 different switches both of them have not worked, having to leave the car in gear to stop it rolling.
Any ideas how I can get it to reset and get the handbreak back on? Because this car is really starting to piss me off now! I've never known a car to have so many issues
@@TheEnthusiastMechanic my 2017 jeep renegade sport will not even start, the dash says service parking brake, it will not release or over ride, cant even push the foot brake pedal down to start, like the whole vehicle is locked out from starting
This issue has been happening to my jeep cherokee 2017 . I took it to the shop and they aren’t able to “duplicate a concern” so they won’t fix anything
The switch is fairly cheap and easy to replace. Normally, I just tell people to keep their coffee or drinks away from it seeing how it’s really close to the cupholder. People spill stuff on it all the time that’s what causes the issues.
So I go start my car today it runs fine and I see the parking brake is engaged and I press down to disengage but the brake light doesn’t go away it just flashes and I can’t move I tried to trouble shoot it and I my jeep Cherokee won’t move .
The electronic break is working I hooked it up to snap on code machine it's saying my tcm has dropped its Memory so now I'm gonna go see about having my tcm flashed

@ Yes, took it to to dealership and to my surprise it was the battery. Replaced the battery and haven’t had this issue since.

You’re not alone this happens to a lot of people. It’s a very common issue. It’s the worst location for the switch.
So basically I could do this myself since I know that the switch is what's wrong. I don't need to connect it into the computer after I switch out the switch?
No you shouldn’t plug and play unless you have hard set fault codes
My jeep won’t release the brake, is there a way to do it till I change it
I don’t believe so you’d have to replace it.
Thank you! I just wasted juice on it last night and now not working properly
Is it still lighting up!?
Where do you buy the switch?
I purchased mine at the dealer
Do you know if it’s the same way for a Kia Sorento ??
@@carloscolon198 I do not believe it is
I have a Jeep renegade parking brake switch that will not work is this the same as a Jeep Cherokee
They should be similar but I cant say for sure
Could you tell me what fault code on scanner show up?
This was a while ago I don’t remember the actual code, but I do remember it was a switch code
Great Job!
Thanks!
Any info on a 2014 overland i dont have that button on my console and im unable to to push in the brake to even start my jeep
I would suggest pushing a little bit more firmly or you may possibly have a bad brake switch
@TheEnthusiastMechanic yes I've probably been pushing more then I should be lol and if it was a bad brake switch would the brake lights still come on?

@TheEnthusiastMechanic yes the tow truck is on the way to deliver it to the dealership
Having this same issue but the light is staying on. I was able to release it with my scanner but the brake light is still on
I would check for codes

OK so I have this same light but my Cherokee drives just fine could it still be the switch?
Could potentially be the switch because the light is on it usually means the emergency brake is applied
What codes where stored.
To be quite honest with you this was a while back I don’t remember. I remember they were parking brake circuit codes.
Thanks very helpful

same problem with my
Same here in Nunavut, Canada. It’s with a shop now, but I know it’s going to cost me because they need to tow it into the shop to get it fixed.
Any new advice for the mechanics here?
So my break releases but does have that symbol
The light only comes on if the system has failed if its working and releasing you wont have a light.

I've replaced the switch and the module and my jeep parking brake still won't disengage
If you replaced the module, sometimes those require programming that’s possibly why it’s not working
