The Vizio sound bars does have a remote and you can use it to adjust settings. You don't have to use a Vizio app just to change the volume. If there is more EQ settings then you would need the app just to adjust the EQ settings as ear buds.
In have both older M Series and you can only adjust the EQ to Vizio internal EQ settings, like Movie,Game,Direct,&Music. I looked at Amazon and Vizio shows an included remote. The App I think using your phone will allow voice control. I don't know. I don't use the Vizio app to control my Soundbars.
Vizio is also plug in and play because out of the box they are normal and it isn't hard to adjust it, not l like your doing your own ownership review says a lot.
