I love Crimes and Misdemeanors and Do the Right Thing and Decalogue. Crimes and Misdemeanors is my favorite.

For me it’s _Crimes and Misdemeanors_ in front of everything else that year- by a wide margin. I’ll admit I’ve gotten a lot of mileage out of 89’s _Uncle Buck_ in my life, the prototypical “comfort movie.”

While Driving Miss Daisy's Best Picture win is a head-scratcher (as are many of the Oscar Best Picture selections), the sad truth is that questionable Oscar choices aren't made in a vacuum. In the past 60 plus years only CODA, Braveheart, and Midnight Cowboy weren't selected Best Film by respected American critic groups prior to their Oscar wins. What in the world were the critics thinking!

Top 1989 films: Do the right thing, Black Rain, The abyss, and Indiana Jones . Movies I would watch in 1989 and now for fun, entertainment and cultural enlightenment. For me, the others don't compete against all the other movies ever made........... Other notable films: Batman, Back to the future 2, When Harry met Sally, Little Monsters, and War of the Roses......Dekalog: On my list of criterion films to see.

Ahhh so that's how it works thank you for demonstrating your process! So I'd have to look at the list for the year 'prior' ie -89 for the 90 Oscars.
I like these takes its a fun video idea.
Ironic Woody Allen making movies about ethics and being honest. Do we think he has been himself?
The whole discussion and dilemma about art and the behaviours of the artists that created them is interesting I think.
Thanks for this video I'll have to check and maybe watch the Haneke film.

thanks. it's even worse than the 1990-1989 problem. Many movies are released at festivals, so their official release dates are in different years. I just ran across a movie released in Europe in 1990, released in America in 1992, up for the 1993 Oscars. I believe "My Neighbor Totoro," released in 1988, was up for the 1992 Oscars ... which I missed in that video.
