I have watched both Justice League (2017) and Mission:Impossible - Fallout (2018). I cannot speak to studio issues or ethics, but M:I was definitely worth that mustache. While the "baby mouth" (good imagery by Roth) was a distraction, the biggest most damaging distraction in Justice League was Steppenwolf.
Well, for one, I'll remember than when my partner and I saw Justice League opening weekend, I honestly didn't notice the baby mouth. It's obvious in the still shots, but I just didn't see it in the theatre. I was wondering why people were even talking about it, even though I knew about Mustache-gate. I guess for me the effects team didn't do that bad with Cavil's face. What I DID see were the rushed effects and boring character design on Steppenwolf, a villain so bland he brought down the movie for me, even though I enjoyed Justice League for the most part. At the end of the day, had the DCEU team had more confidence in their storytelling capabilities, a better vision for what to do with these much-loved DC characters and hadn't been so worried about impressing AT&T, Mustache-gate never would've happened because they'd have gotten everything right when the first shot the movie and the extensive pick-ups wouldn't have been necessary. The next three DC movies all look pretty promising, though, so hopefully the WB has got it together now. Thanks for the video, everybody.

I saw the trailer for Darkest Minds in theaters and I guess it made me realize that I'm old because I've never rolled my eyes so much watching a trailer. Seems like its for a very specific audience.

Justice League had a LOT of problems... The CGI babyface is a single visual representation to focus in on but lets be honest, it wasn't what ruined the film.
The only thing I have left from my father before he died we're VHS tapes of Alf that my dad dubbed for me while my mom was pregnant with me. And an Alf doll. I am with Danielle 100% about how amazing Alf is, and an Alf / Garfield crossover is an incredible match up idea! Lol
I recommend checking out The Hobbit: The Tolkien Edit if you wanna see a condensed cut. A cool 4 -ish hours and Tauriel has hardly any screen time. It's about as good as it gets.
I had a similar epiphany a couple days back. I used to watch movies and be immersed in them without knowing the directors, the behind the scenes and the actors' names. My love for film introduced me to these talk shows but I think it hurt the immersion more in the end. Those who are a part of the industry have a different approach and language when addressing certain topics and I caught myself using those approaches in debates as well since watching them. It's kind of damaging in the end for film fans, I think.
adding mustache enhancements would be tougher than removing a mustache though so if WB is going to pay for the cost of adding/enhancing a mustache that should be fine

Sadly, even if the Stache was removed, I don't think it could have saved the movie overall. It did not dictate the overall tone nor the change in the story. People just want to point out the bad guy in the whole Justice League mess, and they had to settle on the Stache.

Truth be told, it's much easier to CG a mustache on than it is to remove one. That said, after watching that movie, they could have easily had a scene or an off-scene where Cavill shaved his mustache in Mission Impossible. It's not like it was essential to his character... and to be honest, we would have been talking about it just as much... That said... if all Justice League wanted to do was to shoot that one scene, then it wouldn't have made that movie better... Although if it got delayed to this summer it could have been...
I’ll never understand why they never just gave Superman the beard and worn down look from being revived, in the comics he had a mullet and a black suit with no cape I mean DC already screwed up Clark’s arc in JL , first he’s angry and doesn’t remember now he’s best buddies with Bruce?!?!?!? I haven't seen it yet so I'll hold judgement but based on what I've seen the producer saying it's not a YA trope film is kinda laughable. The reshoots were due to the fact that Zack Snyders daughter died and he bowed out of the movie right at the end, and then Joss Whedon came in to finish it up, and had to do reshoots to make the story make sense to him.
JudgyAJ well, depends... but generally yes, you are right, especially nowadays everything shot digital, filmmakers no longer need to wait for the dailies to see what shots didn't come out right and need reshooting... nowadays I think reshoots are the studio not liking the director's movie and demanding a new cut...
ashley sterling respectfully disagree, you need re-shoots because the movie once edited together feels different than the script form, the actors bring something to it, so re-shoots can be a good thing even if the script is amazing
Cathy Yan yes, you are correct, reshoots are needed sometimes to make the flow of the film seamless... but that's mostly touching up the film... you hear of reshoots nowadays that completely change a film, eg fan4stic... it's like editing, sometimes it's done correctly, to enhance the film, and sometimes it's used as a shortcut
I don't even know why Cavill needs a mustache in MI:FO. The mustache doesn't play any role in his character other than cosmetic. Also, I don't know why anyone would spend millions to CGI a mustache on, rather than shooting the actor wearing a human-hair fake mustache courtesy of the makeup department.

syarifah hanyna, 1) I don't buy that. There are ways to keep heavy prosthetic intact in high wind conditions, let alone a fake mustache. Although I will grant you that it's tougher to do so during a fistfight action sequence. 2) Still no good excuse why Cavill's character needed a mustache in the first place.
