Congrats Cliff! Two Doe that’s awesome! I still remember last year I was set up in a tree stand that overlooks bedding and I knew something had to walk up, because behind me was a food plot. Sure enough it was getting dark and here comes a big doe right up to me. Had my crossbow and I had to turn and she stepped out into an opening between some twigs. It was a hard spot because I had to shoot to the side of me so I had to turn my body. She could tell something wasn’t right. But she stepped out into the opening and I smoked her. I had my Dad come out to help me track and we almost gave up on her because we lost the blood trail and it was all thick bedding. My Dad said, “Alright Jake I’m about to give up on this deer.” We did one last sweep of the general direction she was heading and I stumbled upon her. I said “Dad I got her.” I was so happy. She was one big doe.

I think they should give you the tags in the reg book when you purchase your licenses but instead of regular paper it should be the wax like paper thats very durable and mostly water resistant i dont know if you are familiar with Maryland but thats how they do it and i love how there tags are mostly because of the durability

Right on Cliff straight shooting 😮 and for the tags well im in Ontario and we have had them for a while now and yes they suck when its wet out but being paper you can just make photo copies 😉 and ive kept small zip lock bags in my license folder to put my tag in when I attach it to the deer. I always carry a roll of electrical tape in my back pack so i just rap that around the little bag so the tag doesn't get lost and if i have to show it i just cut the tape with my knife and pull the tag out of the bag 👍

@@zocj30 if you aren’t watching the video in full screen at the right of the screen you see the next videos to be played. Sometimes the ads show up there as well. Push the three dots beside it. And it allows you to delete that ad.
Love your stuff. I do not hunt anymore but you bring the hunt to me. When I was bow hunting I created a check list of everything I could Ever need on a hunt. Bow, rifle, whatever. I created a spread sheet on the computer and used it religiously for every hunt. I copied it and crossed off everything I did not need then I went through next time and ran a line through every Item I put in my hunt pile. Later, one last check then out the door. Hope this helps.

Paper tags suck, but I go to a lot of trade shows where they give you lanyard badges with plastic holders and your plastic tag holder idea was awesome! Now I'll just throw some of the badge holders in my pack. I love the back tag rule being eliminated. I also love that Niagara County went rifle-legal
Ohio did away with the back mount license holder years ago.
I lost one duck hunting once.
As for tagging, we can either have a printed or electronic copy. So nice to just open the app and show permits and to check game in.

I believe I read you can tag the deer when you get back to your transportation vehicle to help with the paper issue. Correct me if I am wrong. I just checked and if you read the question and answer portion from July, it does state that.

Our tags in Mi are like a tyvek material, they have punch holes in them so you can run a zip tie right through them and attach to the gambrel or antler on a buck.
About the only thing Michigan does right lol

Congrats on the double harvest Cliff. Those are two freezer fillers for sure. In Virginia our tags and licenses are 100% electronic - we download them to our phone on the Hunt VA app. No physical tag to put on the deer. We do have the option to print out our tags and license but the tag is only notched and not attached to the deer.

Switched to paper and app here at least a decade ago. Just print multiple copies. Here, if you use app the deer/turkey/elk/bear is legally "checked" in. The only time you need to attach the hard copy/paper tag is if you are not in the presence of the animal, another words, someone else is temporarily in possession, such as going back to home/camp/butcher etc... Normally not a need to fill out in bad conditions, can be done in truck/home/butcher shop etc.

Congrats!!!!! Two nice shots!!!!! Im glad that they got rid of the back tag. To cumbersome like you said to move it from one jacket to another. Wished they kept the same paper as tags like the previous years. I think everyone is going to have some problems with the regular paper tags. But i like the fact you can go online and show you're harvest. (I didnt know you could till i watched this video). Im in central NY just north of Syracuse. Ill be out in a couple of weeks. Unfortunately I have a couple of engagements. Wifes birthday is this weekend and my daughter has to have surgery just after. Great job and great info!!!!!

Congrats on the does I shot a huge six my first ever opening day buck! I use the plastic cover also for the tags works wonder but yea the paper sucks in the rain/snow. I love the no back tags glad there gone!

In Ontario we have paper tags. There’s nothing to fill out in the field, has the dates, months etc. you notch it with a knife or can check it off. Maybe NY will go to that someday too

First deer I ever got as I dragged the deer out of the woods half the tag was missing. So, I traced my way back and found it. I took the tagged deer to the butcher and the butcher lost the second half of the tag, it came undone. Then I took the deer to the Taxidermist and the Game Warden called me up and I had to go meet him and explain how the second half of the tag was missing. Everything was fine in the end but what a hassle.
My opinion on the back tag part is I wish they would of kept that cause I have problems with trespassers know I have no way to identify them

Couldn’t agree more - the paper tags are of course more money friendly to the state so I guess it makes sense but handling the tags you have to be so much more gentle. No back tags is nice though lol
Having tags, paper or plastic is archaic now, in VA we use the app for tagging harvests, it issues a harvest number and you share that with the processor to show it was legally recorded.
You can get rite in the rain copy paper to print your tags on also

In Arkansas we have no back tags and never have. When tagging a deer you do it online get your harvest number and write the info in a piece of paper and attach it to the deer. No printing necessary!

When Wisconsin went with out back tags there was more trespassing going on I know . We caught more guys forsure.
Im always impressed just how the States are so far ahead if us here jn Canada with your DNRs. We have to print our tags at home and there is no electronic check in. I know guys that just print 3 or 4 kill tags (limit is 1 deer). What do we expect to get for a 50 dollar deer tag though eh? Your system seems pretty slick. Congrats on your deer man. Well done. Sweet hunt, congratulations on the 2 does, they will be great eating. I had my tags copied onto waterproof paper, some of the Town clerks in Livingston County are using it. I like those holders you have. I will check into getting some.

I believe NYS was looking to "save" money by not sending the plastic printable tags to the outlets. The seller then uses their paper to print. They can save money elsewhere. I bought laminating plastic sheets. You could do it on a laminator as well. I did not have on and bought the sheets at Walmart here in Lakewood. Haven't tested pen signature, may have to get a fine tip sharpie. They even mention you are responsible for keeping these tags clean and dry basically admitting they know in advance it will be a problem. Imagine it really raining or snowing and filling these out.

We hunters in Marylandcan use the app to record are harvest and to maintain a didgital hunting licence but i always keep a paper license with and one for my vehicle

Back tags should have been gone years ago. The paper tags I think are going to be an issue in wet weather, and, of course, you will have the folks who will print out extra tags to use.

Wisconsin has been doing paper tags for awhile now I just screen shot my license so I have it on my phone so I don’t carry the paper around

We have paper tags and you must fill them out before you move the animal but you didn't have to attach it to the deer unless leave the animal somewhere you are not
I love not having to wear a backtag. However the new tags just open an unlimited limit. Anyone who has a copier can just print more tags as long as they don’t report the harvest.
Unfortuanatly the plastic tags didnt stop poachers from poaching previously. For example; someone with intentions of commiting a crime is not going to go register there pistol to make sure its legal before using it for illegal activitys.

Many states have gone to electronic tagging. In my state, Louisiana, you have to report it by electronic means, whether app or telephone. It asks tag number (which are preissued by sex), date, Parish(County) harvested in, and whether on public or private land. Way more convienent than notching the animal and peeling a tag that your pen might not work on anyway.

For early season is it best to hunt only evenings or are mornings productive too..
You can be successful both in the mornings or evenings during the early season. In the morning hunt close to bedding and the evenings hunt close to food sources.
I’m in favor of the new tags and no backtag. I bought the same waterproof vinyl paper the DEC used to use in my printer. Next year starting in Aug 2025, they passed a law for the electronic tagging on the app so tags won’t be necessary.
The real joke either way is they charge us the same price yet have saved thousands by obsoleting print out tags…. Nice shooting!
It’s all good with our new paper tags but I’m concerned as how they will hold up at the processor . Did you leave your plastic sleeve with the processor when you dropped the deer off ? But anyways , congrats on the deer !

Still running grim reapers? Congrats, on the opening day does. I was hoping they would go with like a sticker type paper tag much like Iowa. So many people tags are going to get ruined by rain, snow, blood, etc. I’m with you on the back tags, nice not having to always switch out and not get it hung up on a tree I’m in but to mention putting holes in good clothes.

What does it cost there to get a deer processed ? It’s 140 to 160 bucks here.

Two questions, Cliff, one; where did you get the plastic bags and does't NY let you tag the deer after you get back to your vehicle or your camp or house ?
You can get the little ziplock plastic bags at walmart or staples. They work great. I belive you are required to tag the deer prior to transporting it. (Moving the carcass)
@KEO__Vlogs in NY you have to fill out the tag immediately upon finding your deer but they don't need to be tagged until you reach your house or vehicle.

smacked two doe yesterday. total tracking 30 yards. magnus black hornets love em, used same arrow, same nock, same broadhead sharpened on my stay sharp, morning and evening, this arrow broadhead now have killed my last 4 deer with a bow. sharpened and back in the quiver again for Friday. Paper tags are fine, id be fine if we just go to a mobile reporting/checkin. Backtags SUCKED

I hate the paper tags so much I shot my first bow buck on opening day the 27th and I go to into the garage and the tag was already ripped
One of 17 states now to use paper tags. I don’t mind except for the reasons you stated. I disagree about backtags. I get a fair amount 0:43 of trespassers coming off the state land, one a chronic poacher in the area. I got him on trail cam messing with a ladder stand one night after legal shooting hour and turned in his back tag # since he ignores being told by property owners to get out.
