I have the same tripod/selfie stick and use it for making my videos. It gets taller, just by pulling the top. And the part with the little camera pic on it is a remote that slides up and out of the tripod. IDK how it recognized my phone, but it does.

We had to go to South Carolina today for child support court,my step son's birth mother is behind in child support, she had the nerve to say that she doesn't have it in her to be motherly to him and that I raised him so he is my son ( which I agree with) , she has a 2 year old son with her fiance and he's the only son she can love. You have to Bluetooth it thru your phone. Just turn on Bluetooth on your phone and turn the remote on and you should see selfie pop up to pair with.
