They're body clock is around ten times ours. So at 18 months they are already becoming elderly.
I don't know who told you they live that long? But they are wrong.
Around 3 yrs more likely, without health issues.
I have friends that are reputable breeders and they loose rats 🐀 at around 3 yrs.
Sorry if I sound patronising but no rat lives to that age.

@@ashtensbeauty , I just searched plastic covers and came up with so many. 27”, 35” was the largest. Some are made to cover a fan, or microwave. I have one on my bread machine. Just search it and you’ll get a page of different sizes
