  • I got to see a public demonstration of a Mars Ingenuity Helicopter replica on National Aviation Day at the Wright Brothers Memorial. It was the first aircraft to fly on Mars.

It's really close to the audience. It looks like a really stable flight. Thanks for shairng.

It's so quiet here, haha... Nothing like the simulated super thin Martian atmosphere test.

Certainly adds a sense of scale to this remarkable machine :)

The amount of people filming in portrait mode is hilarious, rubes.

Assuming it's to scale I'm guessing the rotors wouldn't need to spin very fast compared to the one on Mars. Is that why it isn't as loud?

Wow! The pilot and the science center's insurance company were sure brave and confident to permit an untethered flight inside and so near the audience. Anyway, really cool video that gives true perspective of the technology of this amazing little machine and how it sounds on Mars.

Nice heli, I fly rc helicopters and would never put one in the air surrounded by people close by. This is insanely dangerous

I don't have a drone, and I have drone jealousy.

Perhaps someone & something else, however... In all the RC world, Matt is one of the top designers and pilots alive. Also, there is so much technology built into this machine that has been tested and validated like no other, that any danger was minimalized virtually to zero.

those arguments are no reason to disregard the most basic safety rules. Like u said.. virtually 0 , not absolute

@@heinzfpv4787 the rpm is very low and the mass of the blade is minimal an accident will not hurt.

That's one expensive replica, knowing the requirements for flying on Mars are completely different from those on Earth 😅

Interesting but somewhat irresponsible to fly an RC drone so close to the audience. Whet could possibly go wrong!

Not to mention so close to the flyer!
