My cat is off insulin because of a raw diet, so it is awesome that you made this video to help spread awareness! I've been feeding my cat raw for a little over a year now but I'm always looking for ways to improve his food. I used to feed him grain-free dry cat food. I was surprised when my vet told me he had diabetes because I thought I was feeding him a good diet. I was pretty devastated having to poke my cat's ear with a needle to read his blood twice a day (and its extremely difficult to boot!) and then follow up with two shots of insulin into his back. It took a tole on me emotionally because my cat clearly didn't understand why I was doing this to him. Luckily my vet steered me toward a raw diet. After a month of close monitoring, his glucose levels returned to healthy levels and I no longer have to poke my cat with needles or inject him with insulin. He is full of energy now, even more than when he was a kitten, and he is at a healthier weight too. Interestingly, the raw diet ends up being cheaper than when I was buying "premium" dry food. Totally believe in supporting the most natural experience for the cat. How do you decide on portioning? I am concerned about over feeding and under feeding.
Kittens should be fed as much as they want until they are a year old, then you feed them 3-5% of their total body weight a day to maintain their weight
Hi, nice videos. My mum has cats and she tries not to feed them with pet food. Instead she boils different kinds of meat and give them. What do you think about this?
Thank you for this video! You answered so many of my questions ! I have beef feeding 2 of my cats raw beef or cooked chicken breasts (shredded). I was not sure how to feed them raw chicken. I will try your recommendations!Where do you get freeze dried bone powder?
Hello. I want to start feeding my cats raw food, but the recipes I found online are so complicated and a bit confusing to me. Do I have to supplement the raw meats with one of those powdered vitamins supplements? What about those taurine and omega 3 supplements? Are those really necessary to add to the diet?
when feeding your cat raw food, how do you avoid them getting sick? I keep reading online that they can get bacterial contamination but it isn't saying how to stop that from happening. Where do you get this food from and how do you avoid them getting sick or can their stomach handle it?
Thank you for your help. I’m learning how to feed my next cat. This video is the first I’ve seen regarding food preparations. Can you please do more videos on cat nutrition? 😃👍❤️
I see a lot of debate between using supplements a MUST vs people who don’t and it’s really confusing to me. It makes sense to me why someone would choose no supplements because raw is supposed to be raw. My cat has FLUTD though I don’t want to mess anything up. Can you grind bones in a regular blender or does it only work for high end machines like Vitamix? Lastly I can’t find any variant of giblets here so can I substitute for gizzards? My cat is 8 though idk if he will take to this. I don’t want to commit to buying 1lb of supplies if he isn’t even gonna eat 3oz.
First I want to say that a raw diet is a really good idea for resolving FLUTD issues, I've read countless success stories from others who switched their kitties to raw with the same issue. As for your cats age, it may not play as big a role as you think. All cats are different, some take to raw right away and some could even take a couple months however I'd like to say that all cats can be transitioned, it just takes patience. I've seen the most stubborn and picky of cats eventually make the transition. I'd suggest giving your cat a small sliver of raw meat and see what he thinks (you can even coat it in his favorite canned food or if he eats dried food crumble some of that over the piece of meat) There are some great articles on transitioning kitties to raw food, I'll link some at the bottom. There is also a facebook group called Cats Completely Raw And Proud with over 30,000 members. Its a great place for beginners to ask any questions they have as there are many knowledgeable members who love to help. Supplements are not necessary (aside from some omega 3's) if you are feeding a PMR style raw diet (prey model raw) which basically entails feeding whole chunks of meat, bone in cuts like chicken wings and organ meats. There are a few basic guidelines to follow so here is an excellent site that tells you how to prepare the PMR diet for cats: catcentric.org Ground raw diets for cats are generally supplemented due to the meats increased surface area which can cause some nutrient losses especially Taurine, a very important amino acid for cats which is known to decrease when meat is ground. Ground raw is often easier for cats to accept as it doesn't require any chewing and its more similar in texture to canned food. There are a few raw (ground) cat food recipes online but they require a grinder. Alternatively you can order pre-ground meat/bone/organ grinds from online suppliers such as: hare-today.com and add the supplements in yourself. One thing to note is that raw food is much more bioavailable then commercial food and cats utilize almost all of it (which is why raw feeders often report less frequent and even odorless bowel movements) therefore raw fed cats consume less food than canned and dry fed cats so it doesn't cost as much as many people think. The average cat will eat about 4 ounces of raw food per day. Here are some other pages to check out: tcfeline.com (one of the easiest ways to raw feed, its a supplement premix that can be added to ground or finely chopped muscle meat no need to add organs or bones) feline-nutrition.org/nutrition/how-to-transition-your-cat-to-a-raw-diet facebook.com/groups/CatCrap/?fref=ts

When you grind up the chicken necks what is the consistency of the bones? I ground up some chicken thighs in the food processor and the bones pieces were very sharp and like chars of glass. I didn't feel right giving it to my kitten. Is that what your's feels like when you blend it? Or should the bones be completely ground to nothing?

hi, i'm curious. as a person with suppressed immune system, can i steam these ingredients in aluminum foil to preserve nutrients from being lost in water? except for the bone of course, which i will replace with ground eggshells
Where do you get your food from? Also, how do you prevent salmonella and things like bacteria? Also also, is it expensive to switch to a raw diet in the long run? IM SORRY ONE MORE QUESTION BARE WITH ME. Do I need to schedule feed my cat for this?
My husband and I will be getting our new Ragdoll kitten soon. I'm looking into providing the be quality food for her. Could you tell me about how many cups of raw food to feed a kitten per day or what size are the containers you use? Thanks for sharing, he's adorable.
Try blending up the heart with the neck bones and if he likes fish, some sardines packed in water and no salt. My cat eats raw. Only thing I give her that is cooked is oily fish and shell fish. Look at paws of prey for good ideas to switch up his protein sources. I’ve been serving my cat raw for 4 yrs. She loves it. And I feel it’s worth her health as well as saves me money cuz commercial raw is pricey. And limited as to what sh3 can get. With me making it myself I can switch i5 up. Right now her mix is venison, variety of fish, and all chicken organs.liver, kidney, heart, lung. With a pork bone broth I made for her. Source of bones is from egg shells and the fish this time. Last time it was chicken wings and thighs. I’m forever mixing it up. Thanks for posting.
Yes! Completely raw bones are totally safe for cats (obviously you would go for a chicken or a smaller type bone, think about what your cat would be able to catch and kill in nature). They chew, break down and swallow the hole thing and it should be 10% of its diet. One of my cats barely has any teeth left, so with him I'll probably replace with bone fine powder mixed with his food
So cool! I’m getting a Himalayan kitten next week and I’m seriously considering a raw food diet but I’m worried it will be too expensive as I am still in school and do not have a job. If it’s not an inconvenient question, what is the monthly cost of the raw food?
My cat used to get muscle spasms and eczema from her allergies to cat food and treats. Switching to raw helped her a shit ton and she’s doing amazing now. I get mine pre-prepared bcs I struggle to understand proportions and stuff. 💀
enjoyed your videos and very helpful! How old is Zeus when you started to feed him raw food diet? I'm going to adopt a ragdoll cat and pick her up at 8 weeks old, and am wondering would that age be too early for raw food diet? thanks!
i have a siamese lynx point, i get him the fish and shrimp one because it’s grain free and doesn’t have by-products and it’s super cheap. he also loves the flavor.
Raw dairy contains lactase, which is the enzyme required to digest lactose, so often raw dairy is well tolerated where pasteurized is not (that goes for animals as well as humans).
Do you think that feeding muscle meat with a completer would be enough to feed raw appropriately? I have 10 cats so it would be a struggle to get this all right
I have 12 kitties and want to start going raw with them after realizing the truth about the sad truth about commercial animal food. Thank you for putting this video out. 👍🥰
Do you still raw feed your cat with this COVID-19 that has been going on? I am just curious, and not sure if I should feed my cats raw food currently. I know there is no solid evidence suggesting that pets could get the virus by eating raw meet, but I am not sure. what do you think? Thank you.
Oh, so raw is better than cooked / boiled? Thank you! I'll be doing this. If my cat is used to branded wet food, will he be okay transitioning on raw organic meat? Thank you!
It depends on the cat. Some do great on raw, some do better on cooked. Feed the animal in front of you, but feel free to experiment. Raw is always worth trying.
Really great information for cat babies. Hope zeus doing great. I badly wanted to shift my 2 year old cat to raw food. just want to know do you add any other supplement in the food or just the meat ?

Hi I have been feeding my kitten 100 percent natural meat food from 2 different brands I'd love to incorporate raw slowly I tried him with some room temp chicken breast turned his nose up.. do you have any starter recommendations?
Hi, I have a 13 week red point and he’s always been on a raw diet and is growing and thriving! My question is what do you use for treats? He won’t touch anything but the food I make him.
I use little bits of prawn. They are only used as occasional treats, but my cat loves them, and knows its treat time when I get the bag out of the freezer. I just defrost a couple in warm water and break them into small chunks. And he has to earn them. So far he knows 'sit' and 'high five'!

hi im gettin a kitten soon and i really want to go raw bt cant afford the pre done and i have 4 kid thats i struggle to meal prep for as it is lol so would it b ok to give him wet food mixed with some raw or half a week wet half raw( aslong as its 80/10/10 throughout the week) so that hes not eattin all rubbish bt some days when i dnt have time i have stuff to feed if i have too? or will this totally mess up his tummy more to do both? thank u for your videos.
What is your cat eating today. This is not $20 but $24 divided by 7 days max (you said 7-10 days) so its $103/month for a kitten. What does your cat eat now that its older. I have 3 cats and that is $308 per month. What does your adult cat eat now?
Hello I'm thinking of getting a cat soon and I'm very pro raw diet for obligate carnivores (despite never having one before I just kinda became obsessed with watching raw meals preps) anyway I have an irrational fear of chocking on food thats why whenever I babysit I make sure to chop the food into very small chunks, however I know I cant do that for cats because they really need bones to clean their teeth so I really need to ask what size is the appropriate size to prevent chocking on bones? And does that happen often?
My cat has started to lose a lot of weight and I’m wondering if raw meat could possibly help him? What are some meats that are pretty fattening that I could feed him?
Unfortunately a lot of commercial food is caked in various forms of sugar, and is largely cereal based (with bits of meat blended in and other additives to make it more nutritious) The labels 'premium' or 'gourmet' are just tricks to make you feel better. The ingredients are essentially the same Some commercial foods are better than others, but I highly recommend you read the ingredients first. I personally do a combination of some commercial with raw. If your cat is hesitant try flash frying it first ( 20 - 30 seconds is enough) that usually does the trick
I use Natures Menu Country Hunter which is 96% meat. My kittens love it but it is quite expensive and once their a little bit older I will transition them to raw. I was shocked to see how many "premium" brands out there only have 20-30% meat in them.
EuropeanGuy87 Nooo!!!!You really shouldn’t feed a raw diet to a kitten under 5 months! They can possibly not get their nutrients that can be found in regular wet food.
Does he not get tired of having chicken and want rotation? I did something similar to this, chicken thigh, heart, necks, liver. Meal prepped a bunch at once. He seemed to get tired of it fast though, and go on a hunger strike. But if I gave him some of my steak or bacon, he'd be ok to eat the chicken again a day later. Kinda annoyed me, but I like to rotate my meats too, so can't get too mad.
Also do you think rotating all-meat (I check ingredients carefully) canned wet foods and raw meat is ok? I sometimes forget to pull meat out of the freezer, or get behind on my food prep (for myself and him, carnivore myself xP) and it just gets exhausting. So super tempted to do this. Especially since my cat is a kitten and needs to eat so much. I'll feed him some of my cooked meat sometimes if I'm out of food for him or he's getting finicky. =/
That was great, I was wondering where to source things but then saw the coles labels. I just added some raw lamb mince to my 17yo cat's diet today. He loves it! He's on a partial prescription diet plus medication, apetite stimulant & supplements for early stage renal disease, & thyroid issues, but with nursing care & close attentin to diet, is doing really well, all things considered. Any hing he finds palatable & is motivated to eat is a real bonus!
Can you do an update vid for what you're feeding these days? And do you ever add any supplements? I noticed most of the raw pet food people talk like it's an absolute necessity... I like the 10/10/80 rule, been trying to follow that. My cat seems to be growing intolerant of chicken though =/ puking it up the past 4 days, but beef and pork seem fine.
Awesome. How do you know how much to feed your cat in weight? Also, would you ever mix in canned or dry cat food if you couldn't find everything you needed?
This is great! I want to switch my kittens onto raw food. I was told that supplements were needed for a raw diet and that it needs to be ground (the meat grinder is a big expense so it turns me off from it) so this was enlightening to watch. Is there a reason you do not add supplements like taurine?
You can buy pre-ground meat or if you have a kitchen aid mixer there are meat grinder attachments. If not there a meat grinder at harbor fright for $50 or you can just cut it up very small. Am also very curious about if supplement should be added.

i just adopted a senior cat she’s about 10 years old. thankfully there are no health concerns yet but i’ll do my best to start her on a raw diet to prevent problems in the future and i’ll try to get my dog started too she’s only three so thankfully she’s starting earlier. they had my poor kitty on cheap kibble at the shelter :((
Hi, thank you so much for sharing this! My boyfriend and I are about to adopt our first kitten and we want to be sure to take as good care of it as we do ourselves.
Are those really necessary to add to the diet?
no, fresh raw meat contains taurine and omega 3
Thanks for the video. Quick question tho! How did you wash the meat or did you just cut from straight from the packaging? Thanks for your input.
when feeding your cat raw food, how do you avoid them getting sick? I keep reading online that they can get bacterial contamination but it isn't saying how to stop that from happening. Where do you get this food from and how do you avoid them getting sick or can their stomach handle it?
do you use a separate set of kitchen equipment for the cat's raw food? what do you wash your hands with after handling the raw meat?
Thank you for your help. I’m learning how to feed my next cat. This video is the first I’ve seen regarding food preparations. Can you please do more videos on cat nutrition? 😃👍❤️
No added vitamins or taurine, etc.?
It’s in the raw meat she feeds
He eats like a little prince and looks happy. Wholesome food seems less exepensive compared to cans and offers greater variety.
There are a few basic guidelines to follow so here is an excellent site that tells you how to prepare the PMR diet for cats: catcentric.org
Ground raw diets for cats are generally supplemented due to the meats increased surface area which can cause some nutrient losses especially Taurine, a very important amino acid for cats which is known to decrease when meat is ground.
Here are some other pages to check out:
tcfeline.com (one of the easiest ways to raw feed, its a supplement premix that can be added to ground or finely chopped muscle meat no need to add organs or bones)

I’m getting a kitten in a few days and plan raw feed but now I’m confused because I thought it was 83/7/5/5 I have to idea which one is right and just want to feed my kitty a balanced meal please answer

Good kitty mama! He is too freaking adorable… OMG!!!!!
You definitely need a better blender. It should be a paste judging by this video
What no one asks is, what if electricity goes out or food shortage, how to continue feeding raw cat diet in case of emergency?
Hi everyone! I also have a ragdoll and I also give him raw food, and never kibbles. My golden retriever almost died because a stomach disorfer cause by kibbles and my neighbours dog died because the same.... So we have sticked to raw food. Besides 50 years ago kibbles didn't exist...this is an invention of nowadays....thank you so much for sharing your tips! Great video!!
hi, i'm curious. as a person with suppressed immune system, can i steam these ingredients in aluminum foil to preserve nutrients from being lost in water? except for the bone of course, which i will replace with ground eggshells
Do you add extra vitamins? For those who don't have a blender what about eggshell powder?
Where do you get your food from? Also, how do you prevent salmonella and things like bacteria? Also also, is it expensive to switch to a raw diet in the long run? IM SORRY ONE MORE QUESTION BARE WITH ME. Do I need to schedule feed my cat for this?
I have a ragdoll 5 months ago and I am new on this leaning about raw food. For the raw food you prepare. Is this for two times a day?
Hi, what blender are you using? Thanks!
What supplements and vitamins have you added please?
Are you including a raw food premix of vitamins and minerals with the meat? If so, what brand do you use??
So can they manage to eat bones .? I am a little scared
I watched other vid that mentioned to use softer bones like Chicken wing tips, Chicken toes, Chicken neck, Rabbit front feet
Do you have the weights on any of these meats? It’s kinda hard to replicate without that info.
did u buy a separate bleader to your own one u use? i feel funny about the raw, even after its washed out? just wondered what u do, if u have 2?
Use a separate one. I have heard people using a grinder, i think that is because of the bones
This cat is blessed! :)
Oh also where did you get the dehydrated heart powder? Or did you make it yourself?
4 years later and this is still a great video. The price difference compared to today is scary though
I'm going to adopt a ragdoll cat and pick her up at 8 weeks old, and am wondering would that age be too early for raw food diet? thanks!
He was 8 weeks 🙂
Where do you get your raw meat from? Just the market or specific pet stores?
i have a siamese lynx point, i get him the fish and shrimp one because it’s grain free and doesn’t have by-products and it’s super cheap. he also loves the flavor.
What are your thoughts on giving kittens raw cows milk? Love your videos- I’ve learned so much
Cats are lactose intolerant, they can't digest any raw milk (except their mother ofc)
Raw dairy contains lactase, which is the enzyme required to digest lactose, so often raw dairy is well tolerated where pasteurized is not (that goes for animals as well as humans).
Also what blender is that? Can I used my magic bullet of do i need a bette one for grinding?
Please can you tell me the size of the small plastic containers and where you got them, and possibly the link to buy them, Thankyou very much xxx
Thank you.
Yes
Oh, so raw is better than cooked / boiled? Thank you! I'll be doing this. If my cat is used to branded wet food, will he be okay transitioning on raw organic meat? Thank you!
It depends on the cat. Some do great on raw, some do better on cooked. Feed the animal in front of you, but feel free to experiment. Raw is always worth trying.
Really great information for cat babies. Hope zeus doing great. I badly wanted to shift my 2 year old cat to raw food. just want to know do you add any other supplement in the food or just the meat ?
Where do you get taurine, vit e and vit b which are very essential vit. to cats?
I have a 4 month old male bengal kitten. How often should he be eating in this diet? He eats like 6 times a day with the mix of wet food and dry but after doing research and learning that it’s not healthy, I switched to the raw diet.
Omg! I have two cats that are 4 years old, and I never heard of feeding them raw food diet!! I need to do this. Is there a way to transition them so they don’t reject it and won’t wreck havoc on their small digestive systems?
I don't have a cat but what I would say is put small amount of raw food in his meal then keep increasing until it's fully raw diet✊🏻✊🏻💪🏻
depending on where you live you could get some of the food for cheaper at the butcher. some have baskets with leftovers for animal owners.
Hey! Where can I buy those meats from in the beginning!?
I was buying the expensive stuff Hill’s and Royal Canine but I felt as if my cat could get better
I used freeze dried meat treats and lickable treats for my raw fed cats! They hate just about every other type of treat!
New subscriber here, May I ask you a question. Is it ok to feed them raw diet daily? I have got a mamma cat and a kitten and I was thinking about shifting them to a raw diet. Any suggestions??
hi im gettin a kitten soon and i really want to go raw bt cant afford the pre done and i have 4 kid thats i struggle to meal prep for as it is lol so would it b ok to give him wet food mixed with some raw or half a week wet half raw( aslong as its 80/10/10 throughout the week) so that hes not eattin all rubbish bt some days when i dnt have time i have stuff to feed if i have too? or will this totally mess up his tummy more to do both? thank u for your videos.
What is your cat eating today. This is not $20 but $24 divided by 7 days max (you said 7-10 days) so its $103/month for a kitten. What does your cat eat now that its older. I have 3 cats and that is $308 per month. What does your adult cat eat now?
I have a Bombay called Zeus! 😻 his brother is called Onyx 😻 my boys are a little over a year old. Great video, thank you!
😸♥️
Hello I'm thinking of getting a cat soon and I'm very pro raw diet for obligate carnivores (despite never having one before I just kinda became obsessed with watching raw meals preps) anyway I have an irrational fear of chocking on food thats why whenever I babysit I make sure to chop the food into very small chunks, however I know I cant do that for cats because they really need bones to clean their teeth so I really need to ask what size is the appropriate size to prevent chocking on bones? And does that happen often?
Do you have a recipe you can refer us to? Its been hard to find one online
Do you have any advice for, or know anything about transitioning an older cat to an all raw meat diet?
Hello, I have read freezing the meat reduces taurine. Have you heard of this or done some research on the matter? Thx
My cat has started to lose a lot of weight and I’m wondering if raw meat could possibly help him? What are some meats that are pretty fattening that I could feed him?
Unfortunately a lot of commercial food is caked in various forms of sugar, and is largely cereal based (with bits of meat blended in and other additives to make it more nutritious)
The labels 'premium' or 'gourmet' are just tricks to make you feel better. The ingredients are essentially the same
Some commercial foods are better than others, but I highly recommend you read the ingredients first.
I was shocked to see how many "premium" brands out there only have 20-30% meat in them.
my kitten just ate chicken heart and gizzard and loved it. She's only 7 weeks so im slowly introducing raw, she s not fussy at all it seems
hi! so I feed my cat dry food and I want to feed him raw food. Do I have to slowly start giving him raw food?
@sugar plum cats have sensitive digestive tracts so slowly introduce raw little by little, not all at once
EuropeanGuy87 Nooo!!!!You really shouldn’t feed a raw diet to a kitten under 5 months! They can possibly not get their nutrients that can be found in regular wet food.
@@thaddeusjd so if cats live in the wild then they die as kittens right. Lol
Hey
He is a beautiful kitten
Question:
Do you have to freeze any of the raw food before feeding it to him.?
You add the fish oil (omega 3) on the food you made ?
So we can get this all at our grocery store? Where did u get your meat from?
So after you prep his food you freeze it? How long does it take to thaw before serving it?
I usually take it out the night before
That was great, I was wondering where to source things but then saw the coles labels.
Where did you get the liver and chicken necks?
I have 8 cats, does the meat have to be organic pasture raised ?
Do you give your cats tablets against worms?if so,how often?
I would recommend washing the meat in a little vinegar water first. The processing factories have more nasty bacteria than the average prey item.
Do you think not using chicken for everything would effect anything?
Can you do an update vid for what you're feeding these days? And do you ever add any supplements? I noticed most of the raw pet food people talk like it's an absolute necessity... I like the 10/10/80 rule, been trying to follow that. My cat seems to be growing intolerant of chicken though =/ puking it up the past 4 days, but beef and pork seem fine.
Such a gorgeous smile! And thank you for the video, very informative!
Awesome. How do you know how much to feed your cat in weight? Also, would you ever mix in canned or dry cat food if you couldn't find everything you needed?
There are sites that give the approximate amount based on weight.
This is great! I want to switch my kittens onto raw food. I was told that supplements were needed for a raw diet and that it needs to be ground (the meat grinder is a big expense so it turns me off from it) so this was enlightening to watch. Is there a reason you do not add supplements like taurine?
raw meat contains taurine, it's cooking that destroys it
You can buy pre-ground meat or if you have a kitchen aid mixer there are meat grinder attachments. If not there a meat grinder at harbor fright for $50 or you can just cut it up very small. Am also very curious about if supplement should be added.
My ragdoll is 3months, same blue point as yours, how long you have cats?
