Hi, congratulations to your new chair, the old one with some patina are the most beautiful! It is easy to replace the button. You can use dental silk, it is strong enough to hold the button. There is a second button underneath to hold it. For my experience normal leather workshops have the passion to want to make everything look like new, and have not the necessary sensitivity an old piece need to keep the beauty of aging! I would consult a conservator, clean the leather and keep the patina.
Great video... really useful, thank you!! I just scored a chair and ottoman, sadly in relatively bad repair, and want to restore it, so your step by step is really useful. If anyone knows where in the NYC area I can get the leather restores/replaced, please let me know.
Re: Removing the bottom cushion. On my version (new Eames from DWR), the front button is replaced with a sliding clip, that is recessed into a slot in the cushion. For anyone else attempting this with the newer version, unsnap the back button (like the video shows), then slide each side and the front portion forward. Hope that helps someone to swear a little less than I did.
Thanks for posting the video…. Extremely helpful. However, one of the screws that holds on the armrest is partially behind the wooden seat base. I’m only able to reach the torx head at an angle, and I’m afraid that I’ll strip it out. Any suggestions?
The upper and lower back cushion are designed to be interchangeable with each other to even out cushion wear. The seat cushion is designed to be interchanged with the ottoman cushion for the same reason.
That's right, but it is good to place them in the same place, because by sitting they have taken a slightly deformed shape, and it looks some kind of strange, if they have changed.
I don't know what version of the Eames chair this is, but mine doesn't have the arm rest bolts in that location. There are two hard to reach hex bolts that when removed don't allow for the removal of the arm rests.
Have you noticed our new video th-cam.com/video/IxXCholj23c/w-d-xo.html Do you have an original or a fake chair? All original Eames Lounge Chair have 2 armrest screws, except first series, there are 3
Thanks, nice video. I was wondering if you know - is there any way to adjust the height of the chair and ottoman? Or is it just one standard seat height for all?
Very nice! But you don't show the one part I was interested in - the swivel base! It looks like the chair you use here has the similar play to mine but I have to keep tightening the central allen key in the bolt. It has enough play that I almost feel I'm missing a washer or spacer right at the head of the bolt - any thoughts?
+David Leon Hi David, usual this is forced by the shock mounts under the armrests. Please check if the shock mounts are worn. For further questions you can contact me at info@design-restoration-spares.de
I have tried forever to buy from you , but it´s impossible to finish the order . It keeps saying confirm and place order and I have done that 10 times Can you help
+scully For several other customer it works ;) Can you send us an email with your country and the items you want to buy!? May be your be the shipping class is not configured..
You seem very clever I have an original one but it leans to one site , but can be pushed to the other and wobbles . Do you have any Idea what is wrong ? And where can one get buttons ? Thank's
mrkongsimr We have the buttons in our shop www.design-restoration-spares.de. Regarding the other problem, there can be several issues. You can contact me within our shop and send some pictures.
@phototristan Hi. Noticed it was 4 months with no reply. I have a friend who does it, but who knows if it makes much difference. It seems to make sense, like flipping your mattress though...
@spoonlamp We just made a new video: How to restore an Eames Lounge Chair with broken arm rest shock mounts. That video shows also the disassembling of the base. I will finish the final cut soon... i hope... To your Question: There is a plastic bushing in the base you have to exchange. We filmed it also, but it was quite difficult to get the bushing in that I chose to cut off the film. It looked very unprofessional ;-) If I get the next Lounge with worn bushing I will try to film it again.
We didn't! In contrary to cars, where the side will appear to driving direction, furniture depend on viewing direction while standing in front of the furniture and looking on it.
Thank you. I had to get into mine to tighten some bolts and had no idea how easy it was.
Great video thanks very informative, I wonder do you have any help you can show on replacing a button from the seat?
Thank you so much. Just what I needed (a well produced video too!).
it's very clear to see how to assembly Eames Lounge Chair, even how to make it.

You need a long screw-bit! The new version of the video shows it much better th-cam.com/video/IxXCholj23c/w-d-xo.htmlsi=PcKiBF-F-UdJ0Ks1
Amazing...perfect...
In a comment from 2 years ago you mention a video showing the replacement of the bushing, have you made that video in the meantime? thanks
I'm sorry, no, I didn't because I had no Lounge Chair meanwhile to show it... At the next I will buy I will make the video...

Is there a tutorial picture that I can get from you for work guidelines? thank you, success for you always.
Is it prudent to swap out the seat cushion for the ottoman cushion periodically or no? (They are interchangeable).

Same problem with me but no place to use a central Allen key just a flat bolt with a washer of some sort under it
Can you tell me how to take the base unit of these chairs apart please?
Yes, this video shows it th-cam.com/video/15UT85W9Amg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=xa5KX9mt7PZgV9TK
Question, are the cushions suppose to have zippers on them?
Nice video, i like the music who is it?
@phototristan
Except the armrests they have. But you have to undo the cushion knob fixing before you can take them out!
I have one but the back piece of the chair has too wide a gap from the seat cushion. Is the adjustable?
+David Leon Hi David, usual this is forced by the shock mounts under the armrests. Please check if the shock mounts are worn. For further questions you can contact me at info@design-restoration-spares.de
My armrests will not budge with the screws removed. Any advice?
They just stick, give them a punch with your fist!
@youwillfixit Ideal! I'll keep an eye out for it :) Many thanks.
@gjswilson Many thanks! The music came with the Apple iLive package, so I can't say who made it..

No, there is no way, it is fixed to one height.
You seem very clever
