15:50 city miniature is model of Uldaman itself way over 10000 years ago before the Great Sundering when it was still above ground and not some ruins covered by time (and soil). It's also reference to Indiana Jones and "Raiders of Lost Ark" as dungeon has archeology themes. The part where you shove staff into keyhole to open door to room with boss Ironaya is recreation of similar scene from Raiders in which indy uses model of city to find location of Ark (The Map Room: Dawn scene - it's on YT).
Just insane to me that I back in the day used to download Grubby replays for WC3 and now I'm watching him play a game I have tens of thousands of hours in as a newbie.
Grubby, I need to highlight something I see you do repeatedly which is going to get you killed sooner or later. There were several instances in the video, like at 1:04:45 for example, where you go around a corner even though your group has stopped before it. You do this presumably because you want to know what your team is looking at, but here's the problem: you risk bodypulling. By your own admission you haven't been here before. So you don't know what's around the corner at all. You have no idea not just of the mobs, but even of the shape of the room. So why is it that when your team stops on a corner, a team that consists of people who have been here before, that you feel the need to run into a problem that they already anticipate? The answer is simple: you haven't thought about it. You can easily look around the corner without physically going around it, the camera is far enough away from your character to just rotate it in a way so you can see. There is no need to physically walk ahead of Pontus, who is your tank, and risk getting the whole team into trouble. There was an instance just a bit before that at 48:05 where you almost bodypulled a Trogg this way, where you also ran ahead of Pontus. You can see your team moving back to create distance, but you run forward anyway. The reason you do this is because despite what you may believe about your own skills as a WoW player, which honestly evolved pretty rapidly so kudos for that, you're still in a situation where you're constantly being carried by more experienced players. This has subconsciously primed you into thinking that you're safer than you really are. The reason these runs go well is because people understand the dungeon and observe the rules of proper instance running. Soda would tell you this also. So be aware of this. You've figured out the damage rotation for playing mage and how to AoE farm when solo. That doesn't mean you have a fully developed PvE skillset. You need to be more mindful of your role as a squishy DPS in a team, and the trouble you can get your group into this way. Imagine a scenario where you run around a corner like that and suddenly there are three hard hitting elites who smack you down before Pontus has the chance to pull them off you. Believe me, this can totally happen. Then your team is not just down one man, but now they have to fight a pull they didn't plan for with a four man group. Suppose they can't? Now it's four other people who also lost their characters.
@@mvlabat Sorry, former guild leader mode is still on when I give feedback like this lol. I really didn't mean for it to come across as condescending, I apologise!
I actually started to notice how slowly Grubby dies inside doing the same thing in WoW for 7 hours every day. His eyes stats to lose the depth and became glassy and dull. It looks like Grima Wormtongue talked to him for three weeks
I watched this live yesterday, and it may seem overblown, but Uldaman really can be scary. Communications and knowing what you're doing really was the key here. That said, even on a bad pull, two mages could probably kite for days.
You should be scared if you aren't being carried. Levels, basically, no longer exist in retail. They _technically_ do, but are often "normalized" which does have the advantage that the game makers can more tightly control the difficulty of the dungeon. For all lower level vanilla dungeons, you can make them easier by overleveling or harder by underleveling. This has a drastic effect on what mechanics you can ignore, what mechanics you cannot, and what mechanics you will never see. I found one of Guzu's Uldaman comments interesting when he watched an Archaedus fight go so long that Archaedus starting getting healed. He had completely forgotten that mechanic because he knew how to just beat the boss the best way possible.
42:56 If that is the Goblin Transponder, I think you can throw that away. I tested on the PvP anniversary server and when I threw it away, the transporter guy would just give me a new one if I asked.
the more I watch grubby the more I'm getting feeling he is reallllllly social awkward person. Either is master at trolling people with this behaviour or he trully is that cute dummy whole guy that does or says weird stuff people love him for it
This is it. I am convinced you have found your calling. WoW was always filled with socially awkward players which was its downfall. But you have clearly elevated the genre. I would like to see more of these videos for as long as possible. Warcraft 3 is good too but you can return to that after Microsoft finishes the redesign. Cheers.
Since it's hardcore Grubbys run will eventually end. I'm gonna say he won't make it further than Onyxia or Molten Core before he dies to a boss mechanic he doesn't know about. The game is pretty easy, but the boss mechanics are firmly in the category of "know the mechanic or die".
Instances in classic are easy, even in 2004. With the right composition, level, and being awake, knowing the boss mechanics, even the late instances are easy. Uldaman is still for beginners. Sunken was the first instance I wiped, and that was in pugs of newbies. With 1 experienced player you shouldn't wipe. I'd like to see a group of newbies from OnlyFangs take on Maraudon.
When you have instructions on how to beat a dungeon, it seems easy, imagine that. Reminds me when a young kid kinda impressed me with how good he was with a Rubics cube, then he admitted they now come with instructions on how to solve them, lol. Everybody really does get a trophy these days.
You know, social aspect is really good in World of Warcraft. But when you talk to the same guys from the internet during weeks, when you have to follow straight rules in dungeon in order to get into group, meanwhile justifying it by saying that you "playing for fun", the social aspect doesnt seems that cool
Grubby at week 1: "That's a amazing game. Love it" Grubby at week 3: "Hello! Step on me, abomy! Idk, where this came from. Some repressed emotions?". From some point you gotta understand why people don't recommend this game and leave mostly negative feedback. But not now
Each spell has certain spellpower coefficient. They sum up your spellpower, multiply it by the coefficient, and then add it as damage. Big single target spells like frostbolt have coefficient 1.0, or close to it, so yes, that would mean he would be doing 17 more damage with each cast. Quick spells like scorch can be like 0.4 to 0.5, and AoE spells are usually between 0.1 to 0.33. That is why AoE grinding mages don't care as much about spellpower.
Lore is the biggest flaw of WoW. Not even veteran players know why they killing bosses or mobs. And clearly most of players have completely no idea of the lore behind Uldaman or most of the dungeons. Quests in WoW is to gain XP and not to explore the story. The gameplay is prevail over lore, and speedrunners/hardcore grinders are the target auditory of this game
Man you need to put some points into improved Frostbolt 😂 it's hard to watch such a high level still cast slow Frostbolts. Either that or respec and try Fire. I'd try it before BRD.
You should have Ahmpy give you a good in depth guild on mana preservation, the 5 second rule, and drink walking. It would help you big time in dungeon runs. Things like how it's good to stop casting about 5 seconds before mobs die then you can do a few ticks of drinking right after and even do a little walking inbetween ticks. Also don't use Fireblast or cone of cold as much in dungeons. To reserve mana you just want to use Frostbolt but sense you don't have improved Frostbolt if you wanted to get fancy and want to throw a Fireball in I would only do it early on when the mob still has time for the burn dot from Fireball to tick. If you want to optimize that strat you'd want to have some extra bag space so you can start the run with 4-6 stacks of water for yourself + extras to hand out. Then Blizzard anytime it's 3+ mobs. Once you get better at managing mana and sneaking a full mana bar in with drink walking that's when you can start weaving in some Cone of Colds & Fireblasts.
No he didn't. That was an unfortunate pat+boss pull that he had nothing to do with. He may joke around, maybe more than some would like. But he's also never experienced HC loss before. He played well in that moment and helped a lot to get everybody else out

Nice video Grub! What addon do you use for moving your char icon and enemy icon, the ones with your mana and HP? :D
You don’t need addon for that, just right click and then unlock the frame - blizz interface feature
@ToSu-r9t thank you!
Just to be clear If you run two mages and have an experienced party that is cautious it will never get hard.
13:30 the lost vikings reference. Iirc they are allied with alliance players and they even have a quest for them.
