Grubby has such an impressive understanding of game mechanics that he can catch on super quick as a newbie And Ahmpy is an incredible teacher, I'm learning so much too!
Using the plater addon will add the debuff icons and timer above the mobs hp bars so you can see debuffs on all the mobs in the area which will make it easier to see how long mobs are slowed or cced.
Even as a WoW veteran I knew I'd enjoy and even learn something when WoW God Ahmpy teaches a pro gamer like Grubby. I never knew mobs releash when they stand still for 2 sec. If I could give one general advice to Grubby: Use Fireblast more regular on low hp mobs instead of wanding or even frostbolt/firebolt. Highest dps waste for casters are bad target choices. In dungeons Grubby often starts casting like frostbolt on a 10% mob and it dies before he finishes his cast.
That advice could be dangerous for AOE farming, considering how important mana is, wanding or saving mana for nova and blizzard is probably better than doing fire blast on a single target. That advice is really only useful when trying to DPS race in a dungeon, but yes it is good to not waste time casting when the target will die before the cast lands.
@@stillnotchill2560 It could be important when AoE farming to finish off mobs quickly before they run off and pull others. Like having 3 10% mobs and starting to cast fireball really isn't good.
one more spell he didn't mention you can use to pull mobs far away is Counterspell, you learn it at 24 so you probably already have it depending on how long ago this vid was. fire blast range is a little short, but CS has like the full 30y! something you must keep in mind is that it doesn't damage the mob so the mob tag isn't yours until you hit it, in case you are competing with other players/mages. there are some more neat little things to know as you level, ahmpy already mentioned cone of cold (learned at 26), what he didn't mention is that you can endlessly kite mobs with cone of cold while backpedaling until it's off cooldown and cast it again and use it to easily reposition mobs for blizzard into one stack, one important note about CoC is that the slow is LOWER than imp. blizzard so it will NOT stack and will NOT override that effect, so you have to cast it when blizzard slow wears off!
Another few things to mention about cone of cold is it costs a lot of mana without the frost channeling talent. Before the Arctic reach talent, the degree of its cone is quite small. Also, it operates purely on the x and y axis. Any difference in the z axis of a character relative to the target will likely result in a miss.

@grubby around 15:00 you were asking how many seconds it leashes: 10 sec + 1 sec for each 10 lvl on t he mob. it is 22, so it is 12 sec. This rule it is for most of the mobs until 60. The 2 sec standing still re-leashing is usually what gets u killed. There is 1 more thing: Hitbox here is NOT like wc3, you are not a square, you are an rectangle. So if you Nova a lot of mobs, sometimes you HAVE to backpedal 1 or 2 step BEFORE turning, otherwise if u insta turn they have range to hit you
I didn't realize there was an actual formula for leashing. And for the hitbox, isn't it also heavily influenced by the latency, essentially? Afaik every single/slightest movement sends a signal to the server for positioning which tells everything including mobs / spells where you are at and there can be a delay which causes that window for hitting your character as you turn or backpedal etc?
@@Lionimia You know when you are running from mobs and you don't want to give them your back because of daze and you only strafe? Didn't you ever tought that they were hitting you from far away? Your ability to absorb pro info really shows the competitive gaming background. Regular new WoW players couldn't absorb so much new stuff in such short timeframe.
Just as a tip, I see at the beginning of the video that Grubby was waiting to queue up Blizzard again. I think that just as an easier method, he should go ahead and already have it queued and waiting to click to cast instead of what he was doing.
Not sure if Amphy said it or noticed it at all but you gotta hit all the mobs with blizzard. Few times you either run a bit too far and you place blizzard too forward so the back mobs dont get hit and few times a mob almost goes trough from the back line to the front without getting a single tick. Dont think its actually possible for a mob to run trough the blizzard between the ticks and not get hit at all but still messes up group set up and mobs hp where few mobs get hit from all the ticks and few get hit by 1 or 2. In a pull with 3 blizzards imagine how different their hp will be. 1:23:38 as an example check the second blizzard cast how the last mob runs trough the whole blizzard channel without getting hit
I love how all the wow streamers are familiar with grubby and most if not all are highly positive of him. I’m glad grubbys having fun in wow and not sweating it too much ( 9-10 hours a day isn’t that sweaty right )??
WoW is notorious for squeezing every last bit of damage, time or exp like a poodle passing through a pepsi can. I want to see the guy who optimized 4 peon mining and hacked human speed building in wc3 squeezing WoW the same way. Good luck!
Only time i would really use left click to turn camera is while running away to quickly see how far away mobs are. Or when your using blizzard while facing away. Its easy to get discombobulated while doing that tho so not for too long.
do you have a discord that lets us see your addons? I see you are running Classic Threat, and mine doesnt work. I would like to use whatever version you are using.
the first time you get hit while casting a spell, u lose 1sec, the 2nd hit in the same cast only reduces 0.8sec the 3rd 0.6sec and so on to a minimum of 0.2sec while channeling a spell and getting hit you'll lose about 1/3 of total channel time for blizzard its 8sec channel so u lose about 2.7sec of the channel hits against you wich are FULLY absorbed prevent pushback if only 1 point of damage goes through the absorb (e.g. 100 absorb, 101 dmg) u get FULL pushback
Grubby struggling to understand why scorch is better than frostbolt when you are face tanking and Ahmpy not quite grasping which part Grubby wasn't getting was driving me crazy as a mage main😂 It's a faster cast. You are more likely to get through a faster cast without pushback than a longer cast, period. That's the TL;DR lol
AoE grinding as a new player is extremely risky. If you do it safe, as in only doing smal pulls it is slower then normal grinding. If you pull a lot, every tiny error or unlucky resist is potential death. Obviously if you "AoE grind" only three mobs it is braindead and easy, but it also would be faster to just frostbolt these three mobs. (accounting for drinking downtime)

One of the best wow tutorial vid the last decade.
I’ve played as a mage main since WoW was in beta, and this was still a very interesting and informative video for me. He’s a great teacher.
I love how all the wow streamers are familiar with grubby and most if not all are highly positive of him. I’m glad grubbys having fun in wow and not sweating it too much ( 9-10 hours a day isn’t that sweaty right )??
He's a sweaty casual (: lol
Farming farmers has never been a thing until now
Bro that was me there trying do my quest and yall were just killing all of them off. I needed those farmers and farmhands.
rather than secret art, i'd say its a forbidden art. Aoe farming in Hardcore means death to many.
Hope to see gruby framing pirates in tanaris someday
Best AoE guide ever
Thanks Ahmpy!
It's so odd to see grubby play wow but I must say I'm loving it.
Been playing WoW since 2005, often fairly sweaty, and I never knew about shift+tab. Actually learned several things here.

lovely content
Hello! What is the addon that shows in the screen "mana low" and "leaving combat"? among other things.
"Blink"... the damage reveived...
Ahmpy is a great teacher, it's true.
I would also suggest being lvl 26 for cone to help with doing this to help in emergencies if they resist nova
I love his journey in WoW
grubby was smart to start WoW later in life as hes now severely addicted to this game
thanks for sharing the knowledge, Grubby. Thoughtful and mutual
Two GOATS
Learning aoe farming in hardcore is fuxking badass
Didn't think id learn anything but listening anyway 1:07:00 is new information.
This is crazy knowledge....just wow
Great content and video
Have you installed some kind of terrain graphics improvement add-on?
What is the lowest level you can aoe grind as mage?
solid video, learned alot
do you have a discord that lets us see your addons?
I see you are running Classic Threat, and mine doesnt work.
I would like to use whatever version you are using.
omg fence pulling is like tower defense
the flashing chat arrow triggers me :D
how did he get to pop up the window named "binding mode" ???
My buddy who's been playing mage keeps asking me how to aoe so thanks, sent this on to them!
Thank you!
the first time you get hit while casting a spell, u lose 1sec, the 2nd hit in the same cast only reduces 0.8sec the 3rd 0.6sec and so on to a minimum of 0.2sec
while channeling a spell and getting hit you'll lose about 1/3 of total channel time for blizzard its 8sec channel so u lose about 2.7sec of the channel
hits against you wich are FULLY absorbed prevent pushback
if only 1 point of damage goes through the absorb (e.g.
Did you end up staying AOE build or did you decide to single target fire/frost?
Also why 3/3 for blizzard instead of letting CoC be your main slow?
Press v it will show all ur targets nameplates so you can see all the mobs hp at onse.
The server Im on is so crowded there is no chance in hell to ever get a bunch of mobs aggroed. Im happy when I find a single mob alive.
you get like 20%more range with nova if you jump btw / also arcane explo i dont think amphy mentioned that.
Playing mage rn
I thank xaryu for the knowledge
yup works for all aoe spells in wow, even with whirlwind as warrior or when using goblin sappers
I'm not sure if that is true.
@@hurtigheinz3790 what i said is 100% true. not sure about whirlwind etc. im 100% sure ahmpy gonna tell grubby that stuff next seassion
Ahmpy is BEAST !
If you’re going to learn from anyone ahmpy is the guy.
Keep it Grubby!
thats one wierd looking warlock
Super useful video
Long time fan Grubby! It's great to see you playing Classic hc!
(accounting for drinking downtime)
doing this on HC for first time leveling is crazy. Its bound to end in a death at one point. Just take it easy with solo killing mobs and grouping tbh
I still want to see Grubby play an Orc Shaman
Me too and i want to see him quest and discover wow by himself by interact with ppl. Not to be overteach by pro and rush HL with mage aoe farm.
Most and best content are lvling and questing
Can we see your battle against 2, 3 or 4 insane CPU?
