He was not even in the conversation. He was too small. A not complete, with outstanding bodyparts while being big and conditioned, will beat a more complete, smaller and conditioned guy. It's bodybuilding. It has always been that way, even in the early stages of Mr. Olympia. Your judging criteria had never been adopted from the judges. It never will.

Dexter, has a similar level of conditioning, with a similar level of completeness, while weighing upwards of 15lbs over Ray. He has a wider back, bigger arms and delts, a bigger chest, and greater quad sweep. Ray is more details and has better calves, but that's about it. Dex cleans up.

Now if it's true Dexter gained 30 pounds between 2001 and 2007-2008, there's no comparison. I don't think people realize how impactful that is on Dexter's frame.

Today, I think bodybuilding lost a lot of genetically gifted athletes to CrossFit, strong man and powerlifting as those sport became more popular but CrossFit mainly I think because more money involved.

Look up 2001 Olympia pics, there are two back shots in particular of them standing next to each other where Dexter fucks up Shawn pretty badly, he has him in the hamstrings department but other than that it's a noticeable difference.
Now if it's true Dexter gained 30 pounds between 2001 and 2007-2008, there's no comparison. I don't think people realize how impactful that is on Dexter's frame.

Prime dex 2004-2009 would win against ray imo, no bias. But i’ll pay to watch ray posing routine, he got beautiful line n symmetry n always had nice posing routines.

Come on now. Shawn’s back was a major weakness along with his glutes that were NEVER shredded. Dexter’s back smokes Shawn’s. The only thing Shawn had on Dexter was calves. That’s it. Size? I think Shawn probably less muscular but more complete as a bodybuilder. Shawn better posing and presentation way better.
Shawn is by far the most aesthetic anyone has been on the Olympia stage, Dexter has more size ofc, but aesthetically, prime Shawn is on a different level
Sean had a complete physique, even though he was a smaller body better than a lot of the guys, he was complete and his posing was unmatched.

Just watch his posing routine from that 92 Olympia...Levrone looks like a Greek sculpture and is probably the most shredded I've seen him in his entire career, he had great legs and quad striations back then too.

Shawn in his day with the aesthetics wins all day but when it comes to competition today he’d be considered to small. Shawn didn’t carry a lot of mass thickness or sweep he was very aesthetic with a clean look and great posing and unfortunately today that don’t mean shit. I’m a fan of Shawn but in today’s judging if your talking about a complete bodybuilder with size, shape flow and conditioning Dexter got it.

in their primes, Shawn was more aesthetic and in better condition than Dexter, but that was because the era and the competitors required that much conditioning to be competitive. With prime 2008 Dexter, Shawn wouldn't look like hes in the same weight class . Dexter is the better bodybuilder for sure! But Shawn Ray is still a legend.
