Back in my college day, I was told that breath control is critical. Without that, transition between notes with slur would not be good, dynamic range would also suffer. Your lesson really reminds me some really important things.

Since weeks I try to imitate the range and, hmm how to call it, maybe the drive or swing a violin or or cello plays uses to connect the notes . Well ok, totally other world because no breathing required, but the imagination helps me. Just hear some Cello Bach pieces or string chamber music, especially older ones. Hope it's understandable 🤭😉
A short question for You Cally: I saw that You'r clarinets are stacked in You'r room.... The keys are not start to oxidate ( to look darker and dirtyer) if You live them in the room without putting them back in the clarinet cases?
I put them away when I’m done practicing. I also keep a little silver polishing cloth around to wipe off the keys every so often (I need to wipe my A clarinet keys again tho 😬).
