I've hunted out of a wall tent for 30 years. Ours is 12x14 but heavier canvas. I can't imagine putting up with less than two people. I wanna do some solo stuff now. I purchased an Eskimo 9416 pop up ice hut. (10x16). I'll put a wood stove in and see how it goes. Quick setup and take down. And light and easier. I'm not getting any younger. Good video. Thanks
Great video!! When I used to put up base camps like yours we only dropped one side of the frame. I also inserted the middle two vertical wall poles then out to the ends. I can't wait to see your upcoming videos!!
Lol so you were taking the tent down and then you decided to put the tank back up wow this was the most interesting and funny video I've ever seen of you very interesting can't imagine that you were able to do that all by yourself cuz candles can be quite heavy when it's cold and damp and wet so shocking but interesting keep the videos coming you're so interesting and one thing I must say I am subscribed to others from Canada and you're the most adventurist and different but funny and much more entertaining I just love watching your videos so keep up the good work stay safe and I want more videos I love watching you you were like my entertainment / TV and that's for real keep them coming by the way I live in Southeastern Washington down by the Oregon border in the Tri-Cities area if you're familiar with that I grew up in Bonners Ferry Idaho so I know what the weather's like and I've been to actually I have a cousin that lives in Pincher Creek Alberta and I have a cousin that lives in Creston BC and I've been there so can it is an interesting country I love it
I have the same tent and set up. Absolutely love it. Great tent and good quality. I have had to set mine up on my own as well. Not fun. I bent one of my one inch conduit posts. Learned the hard way and had to cut a new one. Way easier with two people for sure. Awesome video. Keep it going.
thanks so much for watching! I had a 10x12 for a couple years. It's a great tent and a perfect size. I like mine for when people come. But it's a monster and often wish I got the smaller one. Have a good winter!
jay legere Yeah I wanted one where I could have two cots and still have lots of room for a sitting and a cooking area. With my 10x12 it does the job but barely. I just wish I could put it up somewhere for the winter and go there for overnights or weekends. Take care Bud.
That was a pretty testy tent raising Jay. Good thing you’re young and still have the strength and rotator cuff to do the job on your own. Have a 12 x 14 Deluxe Wall tent from British Columbia and it was the largest I dared get to set up alone. Usually have 2 sons to help and we have enough room to get-r-done. When you raised the second side I was willing you to do the other middle support first for balance 😂 easy for me to say 😬
Nice work Jay. I stumbled on this today looking to gain inspiration for the EXACT same endeavor. Tomorrow I am going to be putting up my 12x18 Montana Canvas internal frame. I've done it several times solo during warm weather, never in the winter.
Unless I can convince my wife to lend a hand, yes, it will be solo. The only difference is that we have a platform for it (we use them for a kids summer camp from June to Aug). Will have some serious shoveling to do though, we have 2-3 feet of snow on the ground.
Well Jay, good job. Would have been happy to help out but looks like you wanted to take on the challenge alone, which you conquered. I’ve been away since Friday just as we got a fresh dump of snow. Back in YK tomorrow then off to site for a few days before taking some time off for Christmas. Hopefully we can catch up for a ride and visit to the tent before too long. Merry Christmas!...in case I don’t see you before Santa comes.
Hi Jay, I just joined your TH-cam channel and I’m impressed with what you do. Please don’t let the negativity get to you mate, we see the good and bad in everyone. I was wondering though, if you could do a vlog on the layout of your alpine tent, mainly your sleeping kit and anything else to make it comfy in the snow climate. Even though I’m in Australia and it doesn’t get near as cold as that of Canada, I’m very curious about all tings alpine survival as I class it as extreme survival/living along with desert survival. Cheers mate
Finally i found the video where you erected your tent. Why you have such a big one? Looks to me you have the best possible equipment but you never made a test at home! Can be dangerous when its really cold! And never forget, 2 people are always better then one! But you dont give up! Chapeau!!!
The best way ive found to diy a tent like that is to tie rope (long enough to throw over the frame and reach from the opposite side) then pull it up and over like you did with the fly. If you need help, the ratchet straps make a nice winch. Start by pulling the middle two then flip the edges over.
In the military we would put the roof frame together only. Then place your canvass over that frame roof. Get your self inside and under the canvass and put each upright post in place along one side only. Then move to the other side buddy and do the same until all the uprights are in place. Thereafter adjust the canvass to suit your frame - can be done by one person. British Army trick.....hope it works
Love the videos Jay. Just a suggestion... because I like knowing, what was the temp when you were preparing to go / arrived / set up etc... Most guys that do your type of video make sure they either mention or put the current temp/weather into their video. Adds that "wow he did that in -20" factor.. lol Especially for us much further south!
👍🏻 I give you so much credit putting up that tent alone. I did mine with a buddy of mine and I was kicking and screaming cursing 🤬. I keep mine up year round now lololol
When you set your mind to it you can do it . In my youth, in the army, I put up a GP large tent that was dropped and should have been put up before the snow fell. When I arrived I had to do it and took a good hour and a half in the snow and freezing. laugh about it now but not then. GP is about the same as you heavy canvas three poles down the middle with ridge poles connecting then about 8 poles down each side and 4 across the ends . Then install the heater and gave up with the troops arrived.
I didn't read the comments below me but I myself had not put the stand up frames (the 4 left and right ) up until the tent was over the top and then shuffed them in the frame, lifting the canvas and frame up, first the left 4 and then the other side or other way round .. You see where I'm coming from? Edit, forget what I wrote, you mentioned it a second later yourselves lol! Clearly I need to learn and watch it all before commentating 😂 whoops 👌😎👊
Is that one of those Davis tents can you keep it up year round if you want too and nice job getting it up by your self I want A big tent to that way you can bring up your lazyboy and a 50" TV
Hi Jay, so now its been a year since you first put up the tent all by yourself, did you meanwhile figure out the best way to do it? Looking at it from my warm couch, when you have placed the tent cloth over the topframe maybe next step you should first elevate the two poles on either sides of the entrance, then the next two on either sides working your way to the back untill all of them are up. Might that make any sence?
Wow.. that is something.. doing it alone. I felt your pain.. very proud of you for doing it. That is Awesome... My fly is 75 lbs. I also have a wall tent, but I have mine up in the summer months. (feel free to check out my video) Nice to see one up in the winter. Are you planning on taking out more snow from inside the tent ground? Leaving the tent up all winter?
Usually i only put the ridge pole up then i put sticks In the corners and pull the sides with ropes. Depending how long i stay . Need boughes for thé floor
Next time just keep one side of legs off , also when yo put frame together drill a 3/16" hole thru each connection , hardware stores sell a toggle that will keep parts together, great job
Canvas bag for small parts, plastic tarp for poles. Should have put tent on top BEFORE raising walls all the way up. Much to big to do this alone, crazy man ! What type of stove ?
Jay, Jay, Jay, wow..14x16, mine is 12x14 and no frame though other then ridgepoles in the middle ans bipod at the door and a single pole on the back wall. But my tent is pretty old. I leave mine up year round and only after one collapse of the tent did I learn to use poles inside. Glad to see you back at it my friend. Enjoy. Fred Thunder Bay, Ontario
I..... would not be able to do this.... i hate it when it gets below 60f here.......i couldn't deal with constant snow.... not on the floor of an area i plan to sleep in. small amounts or not id be trying to melt everything and keep it dry XD
Jay, next time remember to bring a roll of duct tape with you. That way you can tape the connections for the conduit and keep the connections from coming apart. I have put up the same tent and frame by myself many times and it is no big deal, especially of you tape the most important joints together. All the best.
Great idea - thank you! I'll be putting up my 12x14 wall tent solo this spring and Jay's video was encouraging. Of course I won't be doing it in -20 weather tho - only crazy people do that!!!
Your suppose to have wall pipes on one side then drap tent over the put other side wall pipe on I do it by myself its hard but you can do it Watch some set up videos Wish i could be out there with my tent with you
Snowwalker thanks so much for watching. I’m in The NWT. It’s been a nice mild Fall. But now it’s bitter! Looking forward to getting out there again. Have a great day.
You must have a lot of viewers that like watching you cook and eat. I don't think Iv'e seen one of your videos where you don't. What ever works, it doesn't hurt your videos so why not?
Great Video Bud!! Nothing like some good winter outings. Glad I found your channel. SUBBED!! Looking forward to seeing more. I also have been filming some of my own outings. Check it out if you can. Keep up the good work.
HAHA, maybe! That's what I would do if one of my giant fire-bomb bonfires caught half a forest on fire - delete the evidence. I just want to make sure he's ok. Nice job Jay! Hats off to you for getting it done alone.
Great video Jay, really admire your persistence. Looking forward to your next trip
I have a 10x12 and it's a chore putting it up on my own so I can see how hard yours is. Thanks for sharing and have a good winter.
thanks so much for watching! I had a 10x12 for a couple years. It's a great tent and a perfect size. I like mine for when people come. But it's a monster and often wish I got the smaller one. Have a good winter!

My dream is to have a platform. Someday! I'd love to see your set up when it's done. I need motivation to get a platform.
Super job on setting up that beast of a tent!!
Well Jay, good job. Would have been happy to help out but looks like you wanted to take on the challenge alone, which you conquered. I’ve been away since Friday just as we got a fresh dump of snow. Great Job on putting up that tent on your own! It required quite a bit of work and few choice swear words I'd say. Stay Safe our there.
UPNORTHOF60 right on!
UPNORTHOF60 swear words are necessary to let go the steam....hahaha
I watch you also. You make some good dinners I’ve tried after watching lol
Great vid. looking forward to seeing more. Glad all your gear was still there.
Glad to see you back Jay!
Loved watching you put up your tent. Enjoy!

Looking forward to your next episode man 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Tony Eden thanks!
just a suggestion but maybe put a little tape around each pole once they are in so they dont slip out. Great job though!!!
Boy it is a huge thing!!!
I didn't read the comments below me but I myself had not put the stand up frames (the 4 left and right ) up until the tent was over the top and then shuffed them in the frame, lifting the canvas and frame up, first the left 4 and then the other side or other way round .. C. C. Notting Photographie lol. I was confused for a second there. Thanks for sticking it out and watching the video, I really appreciate it. Jay
I can’t believe you did that all by yourself! Well done!! Would love to know…..what is your regular job? Your videos are great!
Is that one of those Davis tents can you keep it up year round if you want too and nice job getting it up by your self I want A big tent to that way you can bring up your lazyboy and a 50" TV
Nice job. Perfect bacon to eggs ratio. LOL
Diggin your channel Jay... you have a new subscriber!!!
Next time, try unrolling it by balancing it on the top ridge. Works for me. Then unfold it out. Nice job tho!

Apologies Jay, I wrote my last message after about 5mins into your video. Shucks to find out later you figured it out (well done) Jay!!
What happened to gofenko's channel ? Worked fine last week.. this week, nothing... ? Any thoughts or info...
Usually i only put the ridge pole up then i put sticks In the corners and pull the sides with ropes. Depending how long i stay . Need boughes for thé floor

good job 😎✌
That setting up looked like a perfect commercial for a roll of duct tape!
Element of Kindness I really could have used some that's for sure!
Great video
Way to use the old melon Jay, its not so hard if you just think it through, right!
You gonna ice fish at all? That would be a cool video.
SwampDonkey530 I’m not the sharpest knife, but sometimes I surprise myself. Thanks for watching again. Jay
Canvas bag for small parts, plastic tarp for poles. Should have put tent on top BEFORE raising walls all the way up. Much to big to do this alone, crazy man ! What type of stove ?

Hey Jay, love your videos !
Just a side note,... What happened to Allan G. Videos ? They are all down off You Tube. Just wondering what happened ??
Lari Helgren same here
Good job
My friend has one of those. He always puts canvas on before putting legs on. seems easier.
Jay, next time remember to bring a roll of duct tape with you. That way you can tape the connections for the conduit and keep the connections from coming apart.

Wish i could be out there with my tent with you
Put the poles on their knees ..put the tent on the top well fitted..and afterwards put the poles one by one standing up again up.....
Great vid, I am dying to get out there and do the same. I have all the gear just need a kick in the butt. Where exactly are you? in BC?
Snowwalker thanks so much for watching. I’m in The NWT. It’s been a nice mild Fall. But now it’s bitter! Looking forward to getting out there again. Have a great day.
The Great Big North. Enjoy, looking forward to the next episode!
You! Are! Funny!
Jay,next time take 2or 3 partners to help you to build the tent, why not.......??
Who oops!!! Mind blown. You buy that stove from David Gerouxl?
You live in a world where it is eleven in the morning and you only have four hours of daylight left!
You must have a lot of viewers that like watching you cook and eat. I don't think Iv'e seen one of your videos where you don't. What ever works, it doesn't hurt your videos so why not?
Jay, just curious, why don't you just take trips to Aruba or the Cayman Islands? Why torture yourself in that cold god forsaken place. Cool vlogs
Haha. No snow. Well it’s to damn cold to snow
Hahaha awesome !!!
How ya been Jay??
He looks like Casey from the ninja turtles
I'm enjoying your videos but at about 2:30 it was fairly clear that you had had a momentary lapse of reason.
I think I would have started a fire and melted the frozen moss off them in half the time
Ya Snowman😈👋🔥😒💨😹📚🐝
Great Video Bud!! Nothing like some good winter outings. Glad I found your channel. SUBBED!! Looking forward to seeing more.
I also have been filming some of my own outings. Check it out if you can.
Keep up the good work.
Hey man
Any idea what happened to Allen’s channel? All his vids are gone
Johnny x2. Any word whats going on!?!
Was wondering the same thing. ( Maybe because Allan burned down the nwt? Lol)
HAHA, maybe! That's what I would do if one of my giant fire-bomb bonfires caught half a forest on fire - delete the evidence.
I just want to make sure he's ok. Not that there's anything I can do about it if he's not. I do find it a bit odd that Jay hasn't said anything though. I know it's not his business to spread, but a simple "he's not dead" would be nice. :)
Johnny
Agreed
Considering that was April 2017 when the video was shot... I highly doubt it. Or do you know something I dont??
Why do u need such a big wall Tent for one person ?
Why didn’t you take a piece of wood to scratch the mose off would go faster...
sorry last comment was from jim mcadam email stuff got mixed up sorry
A bit of blues and slide guitar would have suited your video better.
oscar oswald a la survivor man?
Duct tape the frame to stop drops
No wonder you guys don't have studs. (U r still in the parking lot. )
Why the ridiculously large tent?
Katan Akuma closest thing I can get to a cabin. Also, my family comes there with me quite a bit. I don’t make videos of those experiences. Thanks for watching.
This is not for me! I'm a fan of minimalism!
I hope you liked the video. Thanks for watching
26 minute video. Spent over half looking at your face while you made no progress. Fooled me once - won't happen again.
Good video. Thanks
