My review of this absolutely MUST OWN disc form Criterion which sports a gorgeous new 4K restoration that wipes the floor with all other previous versions in both picture and sound. The included extras package is really first rate making it a wonderful experience even for die hard fans like myself.
    40 screen captures are included.

It's a fantastic film with iconic characters, great pacing, and a zany hilarity that never lets up and is timeless. It's a perfect storm of screwball comedy and it only gets better with repeat viewings. The nerdy parts of David Huxley's character are perfectly brought out by Grant, and Hepburn's optimistic wackiness as Susan Vance makes her very likable. Their chemistry is magic.

Added to my Criterion wishlist! You the best man! Its refreshing to watch a channel that actually knows something about what they are collecting! ;)

Thank you!! I try to jam in everything I can think of that might be relevant.
You can’t tell my frustration with most “reviews” can you…🤣

@@DamnFoolIdealisticCrusader Tell me about it. Every time I scour video reviews of films (I've just watched) to get other people's take on a movie, I always end up frustrated. (Present company excepted.) Why? Because these so-called reviews are almost ALWAYS just scene by scene recaps of the plot with little in-jokes sprinkled in so I can see what a zany humor-king the "reviewer" is. (Blech) At any rate, I know the plot, I'm here to see what you thought of it! Or of the film making process.
Conversely, thank you for this review of the new blu-ray. I had heard of this film in passing, but never saw it. So I remedied that today and loved it. The two leads are brilliant, but Carey Grant in particular blew me away. And I read that (apparently) the "Suddenly went gay!" line was improvised by Grant. I have to admit, it took me by surprise and was probably the funniest line in the movie for me. I actually stopped, backed up the video, and watched it again. Anyway, thanks for introducing me to another classic film. 👍

@@Thievius333 excellent! I’m glad you found your intercostal clavicle! Welcome to the Bringing Up Baby club for life…you’ll be quoting and rewatching the film forever now…😂
I really appreciate your comment. I always wonder if I’m not doing enough plot synopsis but also get tired of 99.99% of things being just plot synopses. For classics like this I go in assuming most know the basics and I don’t have to regurgitate the plot. Plus with a screwball comedy the plot is the journey so you only need the briefest of scenarios.
I think I’ll only do more synopsis for the more obscure films I’ll cover. I’ve always done the same thing when writing articles.

I’m definitely in the category of people who love this film. Great review! Screwball comedies are my favorite genre and I define the genre very broadly.

Criterion does not release enough screwball comedies. Although this and Arsenic and old lace are two of my favourites.

Thank you for talking so much about the audio. Lots of reviewers gloss over audio very quickly.

It kills me that they do that. For that reason and my inner audiophile-ness I go into as much audio detail as I can.

@@DamnFoolIdealisticCrusader I wasn’t planning on buying The good the bad and the ugly on 4K until I heard you praise it’s audio. I had no idea the extended edition had such a revisionist audio track. Are we purchased it and listen to the track in its original mono and blown away.

@@adamATOM3 I think GBU is the biggest example ever of audio revisionism. Leone designed the mono mixes himself. The later 5.1 remix tracks of his other films didn’t go to such ridiculous levels of revisionism but also remain inferior to the original mono design.

Same here. I get what they might mean but personally have never had an issue with the film being freed of any constraints.

Hi D.F.I.C, Have you done a review of ''Classic Comedies Collection'' just over your right shoulder. I'd like to know what is in that collection please.

I’ve covered some of them on Blu-ray like Bringing Up Baby. I should do the others that have gotten BD releases.
The set was one of the harder to find Warner Bros classic dvd sets and packaged the Special Editions of Bringing Up Baby and The Philadelphia Story with the releases of Stage Door, Libeled Lady and To Be Or Not To Be.
I keep hoping Warner Archive does Stage Door so the whole set is in HD with new scans.

Always hated that Grant/Hepburn film because of that stupid zoo animal or whatever. Ruined the whole thing. I totally avoid it whenever it comes on the tube.
