Tried this method a couple times and really like it. I’ve got a friend who keeps telling me to just smoke them then finish in an air fryer. Ever tried that?
@@RumandCook Gave it a try, half I seared your way and half in the air fryer. Consensus was that maybe the air fryer had a slight edge but not enough for the extra step. FWIW.
@jeremyjacoby1 thanks. I actually decided to make a video out of it. I did a 2 stage fry. Turned out not too bad, but you’re right prob not worth the work. 🍻
Hey there. Fellow Canuck and Appleton Estate rum lover. Just bought first Cabela's pellet smoker and had a few initial questions for you. 1. Your videos I've watched so far, everything is on upper rack. Reason? Also, do you use the bottom rack other than searing 2. Noticed the heat gloves. What type and would recommend? 3. Some videos noticed white glove under nitrile gloves. Are they a thinner heat glove as well? Great straight forward videos. Will definitely be subscribing and watching more. Cheers
Congrats! Upper rack because heat rises and that’s the most Smokey area. High heat gloves and white cotton gloves are in my Amazon store. Check out the black nitrile gloves in the link. Hands down best deal on the internet. 🍻
Wings look FANTASTIC... Just wondering, what it you were making a large quantity, can you get the sear over the entire top tray? Will be trying this recipe very soon with #dartagnanfoods making #crispysmokedchicken
Thanks! The area for the high heat is small, but you can do 10-15 at a time in rotation and keep them all on to stay warm until the batch is done. Only takes like 2 mins tops for the sear part. 🍻
New at smoking with an offset smoker, I have watched yours and many other channels, have you ever tried wings with corn starch, suppose to make them crispy, but I do like and will try your method of a short boil first.
@benjamincoon3158 BW3's or BDubs, as we wing veterans called it, was a great restaurant for years when it was smaller. I lived in the town where the first non-Ohio BW3's opened in the early 90s. They had awesome food, and the wings were second to none. After they've expanded everywhere, their quality and service have gone downhill while their prices are exorbitant.
I think the boiling would help them dry out more before cooking resulting in a crispier skin. Like it. I personally liked the look of them before you charred them but that's just personal preference. I'd probably just keep on indirect heat at a higher temp for the second half of the cook to get a nice golden crispy finish.
I’d actually heard about and tried the boil first method before, and I do like it. I haven’t tried cooking them over the exposed flame, however. Great suggestion and this will be my method for the Super Bowl. I hope they are better than the two teams that made it to the big game. Good video and thanks for standing in the rain for us! #dartagnanfoods #crispysmokedchicken
Great video! I'm gonna be doing brisket on my workhorse this weekend and will be throwing a dozen or so wings on for snack along the way. #dartagnanfoods #crispysmokedchicken
I'm going to try your method for #dartagnanfoods #crispysmokedchicken for Superbowl next weekend. I wonder if the par-boil would improve smoked chicken quarters.
Interesting technique boiling the wings first. Will have to give this a try! Regarding your question what to see next...there's still another week until the big game - how about some other game day foods? Jalapeno poppers, meatballs, maybe a dip or some other appetizers. #dartagnanfoods #crispysmokedchicken
Thanks. I’m hoping to do some meatballs. I just did a great batch last weekend. It’s going to be 22F. As long as it’s not windy, I will see what I can do! 🍻
whenever I make wings, I have to make at least 20... especially if smoked. I can eat so many it's insane. PS. I'm gonna try the boiling method next time. Smoking at 200 is the critical part to get more smoke. #crispysmokedchicken #dartagnanfoods
Yeah I usually order 20 myself. These ones are bigger so you get more meat. I just didn’t want to open two packages when I was making a big dinner lol. 🍻
I've never seen the boiling method. I did not want to try the frying method just due to the hot grease and mess it makes. This is worth a try becasue smoked wings are just better except for the skin. #dartagnanfoods #crispysmokedchicken
@@RumandCook I actually commented twice but not on purpose. I couldn't find my first one so I thought I didn't send it and sent another. Didn't mean to do that.
Never tried dropping wings in boiling water to render the fat better, will try that on my next cook. Wings looked great, nice and crunchy skin! #dartagnanfoods #crispysmokedchicken
Great vid as usual, the wings looked amazing but I'd have to do five times as many to be worth the effort haha. I'd eat them all on my own and still be hungry haha #dartagnanfoods #crispysmokedchicken
I love crispy wings, although my usual way of eating them is sauced and all I care about is the skin being bite through and edible which I usually don’t have an issue achieving. #dartagnanfoods #crispysmokedchicken
Made smoke chicken wing on my Yoder but I finished it by deep frying for about 3 minutes like your method will definitely have to try! #dartagnanfoods #crispysmokedchicken

I have a video coming out tonight with the offset that has corn starch 😃 🍻
Question.....does it matter if the wings are frozen/semi frozen before boiling? I'm def trying this (as soon as it warms up). THANKS!
I haven’t tried with frozen before. I would think it would be ok just have to cook longer. 🍻
Looks yummy. Where did you get those bottom expanded racks? Does Yoder sell them?
Yes sir, you can get them on atbbq.com. 🍻
@@RumandCook nice I like those
I always chuckle a little when you call Buffalo Wild Wings a local chain. They do have great sauces though!
I love their regular hot buffalo sauce. My favorite.
Yeah I know. They are all over, but can never assume who is watching. Hopefully they are better where you are at lol. 🍻

Surprisingly amazing! 🍻
They look great
Thanks James! 🍻
Do you get more air flow on the top rack?
No, I use it for more smoke. In this case I wanted the wings further away so they didn’t burn as quick. 🍻
Maybe I missed it but what temp is the grill set at?
I think I smoked at 200 and then seared at 450 or 500. I can’t remember the exact temps. 🍻
Got a link for that pepper mill?
Yes sir: bit.ly/ThePepperCannon Don’t forget code RUMANDCOOK to save 10% 🍻

Yeah boiling helps break render down the fat. Sounds weird but it works. Certainly a lot of ways to make them. 🍻
Wow, those wings look perfect.

Great wing video Jake, how about some beef ribs.
