- Breeding rabbits is a fairly easy process, right? I mean they don't say "breed like rabbits" for no reason. But what happens when you are having trouble with breeding your rabbits. Today we are talking about tips and tricks that you can try with a stubborn doe and/or buck to help get them to breed.

These are great tips, thank you so much for compiling this resource! Way back in the late 2000's I had a doe that would only accept one buck. She was a Dutch rabbit. We had gotten her as a pair with another Dutch rabbit, apparently the one and only buck for her. We were working on breeding the dutch markings into the mini rex breed. We had no luck with this particular doe with the rex rabbit bucks, and we had ended up buying another doe who was more cooperative and decided to keep Hazel for show only.
When my sister and I were doing show practice, Hazel and the dutch buck got together. They had all does and thankfully their daughters were more receptive to the mini rex bucks 😅
Turns out its quite time consuming to breed the dutch markings into another breed of rabbit. More time than two teenagers had.
We ended up passing on the project when things got serious with the young man I was dating, and now he and I have been married since 2009.
Now, he is wanting to help me get back in to rabbits and the mere mention of the idea has me all excited, and down a literal research rabbit hole. So many things I thought I had forgotten are coming back!
My sister and I had success with the cage swap suggestion, with a different doe. This particular doe was a mini rex. She had a few litters but no matter which buck, it had to be the cage swap every time to get her going. Haha!
Been looking for a video like this to no avail and then this just showed up in my feed today! Thank you! It’s our first time with rabbits and we were so discouraged.
Glad it was helpful!
Hi. I am doing rabbit farming for the last 4 years and found your video quite educational and informative.
Best regards
Thank you!
Just found your channel, very excited to 'binge watch!' Thank you for all you are sharing.
Love this, thank you so much for the kind words and enjoy!
my doe took 1.5 years!! She was my favorite rabbit so I wasn't willing to give her up. She even lived with a buck in a colony style for about 5 months too before we switched bucks. Sooo challenging. We ended up table breeding her and it took 45 minutes before a successful mount. Poor lady. She had 2 litters last year and so hopefully she is easy this spring!
Oh wow, you are a warrior for giving such a valiant effort here and happy to hear that it finally worked out. I wish you the best of luck with this Spring’s season!
When you say to put the doe to the bucks cage after having them swapped overnight, do you bring the doe to her cage with the buck in it, or the buck to the his cage with the doe in it. I hope my question makes sense. Thanks!
You would bring the doe to the bucks cage and then after the deed bring her back to here cage
The truth about rabbit breeding is that it is extremely difficult to do it successfully.
We have had some really great success. A lot of it is because of the does we got but it can be very dependent on the quality of your mating pairs
