I’ve heard him perform it live with Cass Elliot. I’ve never heard this version and I’m 63 years old it’s rushed and for whatever reason sometimes somebody else takes your song and makes magic out of it the harmonies of Peter Paul, and Mary. her voice, their arrangement and tempo do the song justice. John gave you goosebumps. Peter Paul and Mary will make you cry..
John Denver wrote this song before he became famous. Somehow it got to Peter, Paul and Mary, who had a big hit with it. But it helped him get a record contract with RCA Records and his first hit, "Take Me Home, Country Roads", which should be your next reaction. Keep up the good work, Shawn!
John Denver was popular in the 70’s…Sunshine On Your Shoulders was my favorite song by him, so good, he sang many good songs, but my favorite one will make me cry! 😪🩵🦋
Hey Shawn, great reaction! But you now gotta checkout Peter, Paul, and Mary's classic rendition. Most of us grew up thinking the song was theirs. I didn't hear the John Denver "cover" till about ten years later. Yet your right. Hearing it again today really touched me.
You really should check out the video from the Wildlife Concert of John singing “For You”. It’s a beautiful song. Just one of many from John Denver 💙👵🏼✌🏼
A great song - it's usually performed a little slower, which gives it even more more depth. As others have said, check the live version with Cass Elliott. Not only was John Denver a great singer and songwriter, but he had an endearing warmth and goofy country/hippie sense of humour. His regular TV shows were extremely popular in the early 70s. "Take Me Home, Country Roads" next?
So many great songs for John Denver! "Sunshine on My Shoulders" and "For You" are two of Denver's best. Hope you can check them out! Thanks for the great reactions Shawn!!❣
Wow, you CAN teach an old broad something new. I always attributed it with Peter, Paul and Mary. Thanks so much. I love learning something new. Way to go, Shawn. Blessings all.
Aww, young John Denver! Such a nice little album also "Rhymes and Reasons" and I love the title song "Rhymes and Reasons!" As a self-proclaimed John Denver expert, he did a lot of versions of "Leaving on a Jet Plane." It was usually with a medley like with "Goodbye Again" in "The Wildlife Concert," paired with "Follow Me" on the "An Evening with John Denver" album (my favorite medley as "Follow Me" is a top 3 favorite song for me), does a duet version with Cass Elliott on "The Midnight Special," his "Greatest Hits" one is slower, and the original "Babe I Hate to Go" is a little faster and I love it! John also did another version of it on his "Last Recordings" album. I hope you get to do my favorite song which no one else really has, "Poems, Prayers, and Promises" and a live version is preferred!
Once again loved your appreciative reaction! I also wasn’t aware John wrote it! You need to hear Peter Paul & Mary do this song! Also from John… “Calypso “ & “Thank God I’m a country boy!” He’s so talented! Besides guitar, he also played piano & violin (fiddle!) Thanks Shawn! 😀
This was recorded by Peter, Paul and Mary and a huge hit. You should check out Paul Stookey of this group "The Wedding Song " with your tender heart you would get lost in it
He has sung slower versions of this, some live, through the years that are better and more heart-felt. This version is an early one. Kind of like the one he did with the Mitchell Trio.
As others have suggested, the Peter Paul and Mary version with the haunting 3 part harmonies is a must listen. It is the classic version that is still played on classic rock stations. Studio version please. 🙏
Peter Paul and Mary had a big hit with this song before John started recording his own songs. It's about leaving to go on tour, but it really struck a chord with couples being separated by young men going to Vietnam. I like PPM's version better than this particular performance by John, though he had some great live renditions.
A song from peter, Paul and Mary, that you might find uniquely interesting “too much of nothing” Paul Stookey performed and wrote a song. It’s very popular called the wedding song.
Peter, Paul and Mary had a huge hit with this song. While John Denver wrote it it wasn’t a huge commercial success for him. Nowhere near the success he had with his other songs.
Unfortunately this is the wrong version in my opinion. Other versions by him the song is slowed down at much better. Try the version with Mama Cass from The Midnight Special.
This version you're listening to seems way too fast now that I've heard the live version done with Cass Elliott. Together, they do the song right, IMO. Great reaction!
There's an old video here on YT of him doing this live in a duet with Cass Elliot.
oh yes. it is epic. so good
So good
Thanks, Gary! LOVE that version with Cass - it also focused on VOTING..

Agree. It's like it's being played at 1.025 speed, a tad rushed. John is a personal favorite but PP & M blows it away.
There is an outstanding live performance with John and Momma Cass , from Mommas and Poppas , doing this song, on national TV...it's worth a look! ✌️
Yes I was going to say that too
I agree! 😀
Yessss!
💖Beautiful song...I especially love Peter, Paul and Mary's version. I didn't know John Denver wrote it! Loved your heartfelt reaction, as always!

John Denver is still one of my favourites
Universally considered one of the greatest songs ever written. Bravo Mr. Denver!
It is a nice song. Especially as recorded by Peter, Paul, and Mary. Maybe on the top 10,000.
Peter, Paul, and Mary had a big hit with Leaving On a Jet Plane. You might want to check it out.
John had such amazing talent for great lyrics and unforgettable melodies!
Best ever! Everything John sings is golden!🎙🎶💛💛💛💛💛💛

Great song, Brotherman. It reminds me of every time I was deployed overseas and said goodbye to my wife. You want to make it back to her.
So many great songs for John Denver! "Sunshine on My Shoulders" and "For You" are two of Denver's best. Hope you can check them out! Thanks for the great reactions Shawn!!❣
mate I love your honesty in your reactions
Thanks, Shawn! JD was a treasure!
Great version with Cass Elliot.
You have to hear this live. No comparison.
I agree listen to the live version with Cass Elliott of the Mama and Pappas really good you'll enjoy it.
Leaving On A Jet Plane. Wow. Awesome John Denver classic. Thanks for posting.

"Leaving on a Jet Plane" by Peter, Paul and Mary is a great cover of this song. I actually believed for years that this song was theirs......OOPS
Peter, Paul and Mary's is not a cover. It's the original.
@@davidlionheart2438 Look it up. Written by John Denver in 1966
"Let Us Begin" is another brilliant song (a duet) by John & "Sasha".
Great reaction dude. 🖖
Peter Paul and Mary also did this song too , I like their version even more.
Two great songs you should definitely check out are "I'm Sorry" by John Denver and "Lemon Tree" by Peter, Paul & Mary.
He has sung slower versions of this, some live, through the years that are better and more heart-felt. This version is an early one. Kind of like the one he did with the Mitchell Trio.

WHAT CAN YOU SAYYYYYY SHAWN!!! 😮😊 JUST INCREDIBLE STUFF! AND YES HIS ( WILDLIFE ) CONCERT IS AWESOME FOR SURE!👍 CYA! PEACE

Paul Stookey performed and wrote a song. It’s very popular called the wedding song.
I'm the Movie Armageddon, Micheal Duncan ( Bear) starts singing this before the mission to astroid...epic.❤
You ought to listen to Peter, Paul & Mary's version. Honestly, it is THE definitive version.
First became a hit sung by Peter, Paul and Mary. 🙂
Peter, Paul and Mary had a huge hit with this song. While John Denver wrote it it wasn’t a huge commercial success for him. Nowhere near the success he had with his other songs.
He sang it first when he was part of the Mitchell Trio before p,p & m. just as good then as ever
♥️💎♥️💎💫🫶🏻
You should check out the live video where he teams up with Cass Elliot
Unfortunately this is the wrong version in my opinion. Other versions by him the song is slowed down at much better. Try the version with Mama Cass from The Midnight Special.

Best version - from Greatest Hits Vol 1.
th-cam.com/video/k9sf7C7D3nk/w-d-xo.html
Peter, Paul and Mary performed the definitive version. This one is a pale comparison.
You're aware the John Denver wrote the song, right?
Play?
The greatest hits version of leaving on a jet plane sounds better
