  • This is a 1980 White Truck Corporation Road Commander 2 with a winch style Maxon Roll-Off body, powered by a Detroit Diesel 8V92TAG motor owned by Recycling Resources out of Pomona.
    I talked to the driver and he tells me he has been driving this truck for 30 years and the truck itself has over 3 MILLION miles on it. The current motor in this truck has only 1.5 Million on it. Just to make it more interesting, it also has a 13 speed manual transmission.

    Looks like the perfect wheel base and perfect driving truck for rolloff

    Love the sound of the old 2 stroke Detroit. A new paint job and some shining up; and this truck would be nothing short of awesome

    That was awesome! Driving that must be like sitting on a second story house.

      ksb0909 When I climbed up into the cab to get pictures, it looked like it was on top of a second story house. Surprised cabs like this aren't built anymore. Seems to be a great day cab.

    I miss hearing the Detroit Diesel series engines they're affordable stronger and reliable than these newer Diesel engines of today

      The old saying "they don't make them like they used to" certainly applies for sure. I purchased a truck with a 6v92T just so I could always know there is one last one around. I love the sound of those engines.

    This truck's extremely narrow cab reminds me of a surprised man, lol

    That is so freaking cool! Seriously I'd prefer driving that over and of the Peterbilt 520s we have at my company. Cool they've kept it going so long, my company just scrapped a really cool Volvo we had and that truck was only a '99. They claim it's "too old"

    Damn! Now that just sounds beautiful! Very nice find brotha! This truck is sweet! That's crazy, he has been behind the wheel of this rig, for that long! I think this is one of the only Road Commander videos on YT. Very neat to see a Maxon Roll-off, not many of those around, assuming. Killer! Glad to see it has a 13 speed, that's badass! Wonder how many engine swaps and refubs he has done in the past. Outstanding work, Bill!

    • @shadofax96
      @shadofax96  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      ***** He has only had 2 motors in it. He says he gets pulled over often by CHP and he passes inspection every time. No trouble. ;-) Looks rough, but it's taken care of. As a result, you get your money's worth.

    I wish Autocar made cabover and conventional highway trucks again! It would go well with their line of Low Cab Fowards! My goal is to one day find a Heil Starr ACX tractor, or just turn an ACX or WX into a tractor just for the heck of it!

    • @shadofax96
      @shadofax96  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would be nice to see Autocar make some road tractors again. A tall cab over like this one with a small sleeper would be a welcomed sight to see no doubt. I was fortunate enough to see an older White Road Commander with a set back axel and a sleeper berth the other day in PA, very good looking truck.

    Come to think of the White Road Xpeditor I've used to see those as boat haulers with the Detroit Diesel engine like 8V71N 6V92TA 6V71N 8V92TA and DD series 50 engines until 2011 the roar of those engines was awesome

    • @shadofax96
      @shadofax96  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep... around 2010 everything changed in the diesel world. All the good old stuff started being replaced with EPA compliant engines. Sadly, the new ones just don't sound anywhere near as flattering as the old engines do. Not to mention all the troublesome computers and sensors required for the emissions control equipment...

    Awesome catch! Always had a thing for Road Commanders. I've been seeing quite a few recently. Never heard of this company. Lucky find with this truck or have you been searching for this truck specifically? I hope to find one of the Road Commanders around here soon. No doubt that they are some legendary, awesome sounding rigs. Great find Bill!

      ***** I've seen this truck going up and down the street by my work for a few years, but like so many trucks I see, I never can get them on video or see them in action. Fortunately I happen to see this one going down the road on my day off. So like a good truck hunter I stopped what I was doing and followed it to were it was going.

    im pretty sure this truck isnt used anymore because of california's stupid CARB law saying that trucks older then 2010 are no longer registerable or useable in the state of California.
