  • It's another beautiful morning in rural Hungary, Ian Harford and Steve Wild join fellow hunters and the beaters as they gather for their first driven hunting adventure. As everyone begins to arrive there is an aura of respect and camaraderie between everyone involved.
    Welcome to Wild Boar Road Trip - Hungary on Team Wild TV.
    It takes the efforts of a huge group of people and dogs to bring together a days driven hunt; Ian and Steve are truly fortunate to be able to hunt in such an amazing environment. There is a mixture of experienced guns and hunters who are new to this style of shooting, all of this adds to the excitement of the day ahead.
    After the morning briefing where the format of the day is discussed, Ian and Steve, along with their fellow guns head out to their pegs. Although Ian has hunted in Hungary in the past, he loves each time he gets to return to this beautiful wilderness. Steve is eager to begin, as this is Steve’s first driven hunt in Hungary. Driven hunting like this is a great way to maintain a healthy number of wild boars; it is critical to manage the right balance with nature throughout Europe.
    Today, Ian will be using his Sauer 404 Syncro XT rifle. He is very familiar with this rifle as it is the same one he used in Alaska. The Sauer 404 has some innovative features that are perfect for driven hunting. Attached is a Hawke Endurance 1-4x24 scope. Ian is ready for an epic wild boar driven hunting day.
    Further up field, Steve sets up on his peg and prepares his equipment. The weather is extremely cold, but thankfully Steve is wearing his Deerhunter Mouflon suit, which is keeping him warm in these challenging hunting conditions. Steve will be using his trusty go to rifle, the Blaser R8 Professional Success in 300 win mag. Just like Ian, Steve has used this rifle in Alaska and he knows its ideal for the hunting ahead.
    The first drive comes to an end and unfortunately Ian hasn’t come across any wild boars. He has seen plenty of animal activity as two hares and a roe doe run through the area. However, the roe doe isn’t on the tableau today. Steve was also unsuccessful in spotting any wild boar. Although disappointed, they remain optimistic for the next two drives.
    After a fairly uneventful first drive, Ian now has a more promising position, backed onto some woodland. The temperature has increased slightly, but the snow continues to fall. The scenery is spectacular; all that is missing is some pigs. Steve has also just set up for the second drive in a more favourable spot. Steve locates several wild boar signs nearby and is hopeful for this drive.
    Again Ian spots more animals in the distance. This time a herd of red deer move quickly throughout the opening. Ian’s neighbouring gun takes a shot, but fails to connect. Steve’s neighbours have also been seeing some action, as sounds of gunfire can be heard around the woodland. Steve continues to patiently wait for the beaters to come through and drive the wild boars passed his position.
    Unfortunately, as the second drive finishes Ian and Steve haven’t seen any wild boar activity. They both head back into meet with the others to reflect and discuss the days outing. The second drive had gone on slightly longer than anticipated. This meant with daylight fading Ian and Steve were unable to go out on their third planned drive.
    Next time on Wild Boar Road Trip - Hungary, Ian and Steve are right back out again ready for another epic driven hunting adventure.

    Can I ask????? Why do you wear full Real Tree type camo..... Then have a BRIGHT ORANGE hat and scarf on?????

    • @7979Army
      @7979Army 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      waddac2 the Orange is for safety reasons so other shooters/hunters can easily see your location. Why for the camp? Most good cold weather gear is in camo.

      @oswaldspengler7616 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The hunted game doesn't have colour-vision so bright colours don't add any visibilty whatsoever. For the human eye however this makes the hunters easy to spot which helps a lot to avoid shots fired into their direction.

      Now thank you so much for your reply Sir... I never knew that. Thank you again

    • @oswaldspengler7616
      @oswaldspengler7616 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      i have to correct my reply however since it's a bit more complicated actually. (roe) deer f.ex. sees in various shades of blue and green because they have only 2 receptor-types in their eyes while we humans have an additional third one for the yellow/red colour-palette. For this reason experienced hunters told me to avoid wearing blue colours (f.ex. jeans) because the animals see those best. You would basically light-up like a christmas-tree to them. But In regards to orange they are absolutely blind. Wild boar has even worse visual senses. With the exception of hunting game birds the biggest challenge for hunters is to avoid the animals picking up your smell. Visual camo helps but positioning yourself correctly in regards to the wind-direction is more important. Once the game is quite close to you having good camo and avoiding quick (and loud) movements is also crucial of course.

    The 338 Win Mag is some serious power. On the piggy and on the shoulder. Ive never hunted Wild boar but is that firepower needed for wild boars or would you consider that over bore? Good hunt and off roading. If it aint snowing it aint hunting. LOL

    • @smokedbrisket3033
      @smokedbrisket3033 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Meh, even the 300 WM is a little overkill for boar inside 300 yards. If you're not going long, not much point in any of the small or medium-bore magnums for anything.

      a .308 Win, shooting a premium bullet like a NP or NAB 180 gr still has north of 2000 ft-lbs of energy at 200 yards, and is still moving at about 2200 fps, more than enough velocity for full expansion and penetration out of Nosler, Woodleigh, Barnes, etc, and more than enough for a through-and-through wound in most circumstances.
      there are similar ballistic differences between a 225 gr 338 Federal and 338 RUM at those same distances.
      All 4 of those cartridges (308 win, 300 rum, 338 fed, 338 rum), if zeroed at 200 yards, are within a few inches of each other out to 300 yards
      The real value in small- and medium-bore magnums is how they behave beyond 300 yards, which is head-and-shoulders better than non-magnums of the same caliber.
      There is a downside to using magnums on animals like these inside 300 yards, and that's the larger amount of blood-shot, ruined meat.
      I'd comfortably shoot at a moose from 500 yards with a 338 mag of one stripe or another, but there in Hungary, the only benefit these guys have is shooting rifles and cartridges with which they are very familiar.

    • @blaynemacpherson8519
      @blaynemacpherson8519 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brian Bagent What is the average distance that you shoot wildboar at? Ian is one of the best shots that I have seen on these shows. Doesn’t matter if the animal is running like the pigs or standing still I would not want to be an animal in front of Ian’s rifle. I agree that being comfortable with the equipment that you use is very important. (Those pigs new which stands Ian was in and they said I’ll chance it with anyone but him. Avoid like the plaque. ). Lol.
      Where I’m from when one uses the 338 Win Mag they are going after moose and elk 700-1200 lbs animals. The 300 is the minimum caliber that you use on those animals. So when I see those calibers used on pigs I’m like how tough are those pigs?. Thank you for taking the time to go into good detail about the calibers used and why.

      Down here in Texas, if I'm hunting in the woods, maybe 60-70 yards, but frequently under 40 yards. If I'm in a cut-over cornfield or something, distances could stretch. But it's still pretty easy to sneak within 100 yards of them as long as I'm downwind.
      I like to use hard cast lead out of my 45-70. At those slow velocities (1500-1750 fps, depending on what I'm shooting that day) with the really wide meplats on the lead bullets, there is never any blood-shot meat, and generally a nice, clean, .458 caliber hole all the way through.
      If I know I'm likely to have to shoot some distance, I like to use my 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser. 125 and 140 gr Nosler Partitions out of that gun are like magic on pigs.

    So were you guys hunting on a farm in Wisconsin or? Coz you kept talking about „shooting pigs“. Wild pigs are called boars. Just to let you know the difference. Bt at least u got the sponsor babbling down to a T. Noice! Absolutely paramount.

      What's wrong with having sponsored kit to help them afford to do these sorts of videos? Hawke, Blaser, Sauer, Deer Hunter.... the sponsored kit is only a fraction of the time and effort that goes into making these videos.

    It seems most European hunters tend to wear earth tones and neutral colors to the woods. Does anyone say anything at camp when you guys show up in camo? Just curious.

      Ian Harford yeah that I understand but feel like a lot of people will feel like they wasted near twenty mins watching this to be honest there's little to learn and not much action to see either so bar a brand plug every few mins there's little content of value unfortunately. Usually really enjoy every last video of twtv but this I felt was nothing more then fulfilling obligations to brand advertising not so much viewers entertainment.
