Robert's hat would suggest it's more like country music, but the Texas roadhouse blues is very tangible! And yeah, I too could hear Pin Floyd in this track. Did you mention Journey as well?? Wow! And yes, yet another amazing project by Arjen Lucassen!
Little pronunciation tip: if you pronounce Robert's last name with 2 times a double oo (like in soothing, smooth, mood) your pronunciation is inpecable! So pronounce it like Sooterbook 😉
Thanks for reacting to this new song / new project! I hope there is more to come from Arjen. From the glitz and glam of Supersonic Revolution via Ayreon Live Beneath the Waves progressive rock/metal opera to the bluesy bourbon&sigars ballad in less than a year. Arjen never ceases to surprise me. So glad you really enjoyed this one, Eric!

When the guitar started singing your face told it all.... The album. It is going to be released the same day as the Live Beneath the Waves DVD. I was there, and I am going to the very first Plan Nine concert in Zoetermeer, Netherlands as well.
Fun fact: this is actually an old song that Arjen and Robert wrote in the 90s, but never found the time to record. They came across it again, brushed it up a bit and here we are. I am very curious what else they'll bring on the album.
The Long - Lost Songs is the name of the album. Called long lost because they started writing and recording in the 90's. They came back to those recordings in 2022, and this album is the result. It releases in May. Also releasing in May is the DVD of the 2023 Ayreon concert. I've got both pre -ordered already.
Plan Nine is golden.
Will go to see the in Zoetermeer june 7th, and never ever have been disappointed by a live performance of an Arjen Lucassen project...
Listened to the entire album yesterday in vinyl. Signed also by robert and arjen. It happened to be rerecorded songs from the 90s. They were all demos put on hold till this year. And its fantastic. Also a lot of ayreon in it. Great stuff.
The lead guitarist is Marcel Singor (Kayak) who also played lead guitars during the Live concerts of Electric Castle and other Tales by Ayreon and ofcouse Ed Wraby and Joost vd Broek are also present.
Well Ed is on the album not in the clip.
Not much of an expert of Texas blues, but the song is so different to what I expected from Arjen. But it’s a such balanced song with the Hammond and the backing vocals. Hearing your reaction reflects 100% waht I‘m feeling hearing the song. Looking forward to seeing the songs live.

When I first heard the track, it music reminded me of David Coverdale's solo album and the ambience in the room was reminiscent of the Roadhouse scenes in Twin Peaks: The Return, particularly the song No Stars sang by Rebekah del Rio. Really looking forward the album's release in May - already pre-ordered.

I was really pleasently surprised where Arjen and Robert went with this first single. I can't wait to hear how the rest of the album will sound. Super hyped to see them live in June. If the whole album is in that style it will be quite a party, I think.. 😀

Koen Herfst - Drums:
Koen Herfst is one of the most energetic and versatile drummers of The Netherlands. He is known for his work with Armin van Buuren, VANDENBERG, Epica, Anneke van Giersbergen, his own bands The Cards and Voodoo Chambers and was voted ‘Best Hardrock drummer of Benelux’ for 6 years in a row.
Next to being a drummer, he also runs his own drumfestival ‘HERFSTFEST’ (Holland’s main drum-event) and co-organized the biggest drumevent ever in The Netherlands: ‘2000 drummers on the beach‘, together with his great friend and Dutch drum-legend Cesar Zuiderwijk of Golden Earring. Koen is a multi-instrumentalist and composes his own music as well as music for other artists and events. He has his own (drum)studio and records and writes for and with artists all over the world.
