The ironic part about this is the Hardway Brothers came from a loving supportive two parent household and still chose a lifestyle that wound up sending them to prison.

@@theboldandthebeautiful3729 sadly i feel thats what happens to most of these guys. And the ones that actually know what they got in and choose to stay do it because of what they already seen and been through. No matter the age or circumstances killing somebody or having a loved on taken from you in that way changes you for life. And sometimes its too late to make that realization

Living in Chicago my whole life, all the things I have heard, this was one of and always will be, the saddest stories I have ever heard . It started with the Shavon Dean murder . She was only a year older then me . Hearing a 11 year old Robert “ Yummy “ Sandfur was involved. Then shortly after that , hearing that he was murdered by 2 young men not much older then not only myself , but “yummy” as well . I ‘ve seen this interview before but nice to see it again . It’s sad to even see how their lives were ruined by bad choices . I hope and pray they are out now , people do give them a second chance , they turn their lives completely around hopefully give their lives over to Jesus one day and be a inspiration to others who might be going down the same wrong path they once went down . The sad part is the gang promised them all those things to make sure they didn’t snitch , and gave them absolutely nothing .

Murder carried 20-60 yrs back in the 90s, judge gave him 45 and his older brother the max at 60. They have spent more than 2 times their original ages in prison. No doubt they are institutionalized. 45 yrs at age 14 and a alleged getaway driver is a lot of time. I think he would have done 50% of that time, so about 23 yrs, and his brother 30. They both should be out of prison now.

Based on his autopsy and notes from his psychiatrist, months before he was killed, he had been abused. Cigarette burns were found on his neck, buttocks and other places. Even if he had not been in a gang, I believe he still would have terrorized others around him.

I believe the prosecutor's line was that they were super-predators and that they could not be helped. So their conditioning of the jury this way aided in their sentencing. Derrick (the 14 year old getaway driver) was told by lawyers not to react (or get emotional) in the courtroom, and later, it was said that he showed no remorse, when he was only following his lawyers instructions.
