This is excellent! Where the farm was, is now The Sussex Horse Rescue Trust on Hempstead Lane. The rail crossing is still there. I've never seen any videos before Sussex Horse Rescue was a working farm. Thanks for uploading this.
@@tobyharper8614 Hello, I understand that and I wasn't questioning that. I'm just saying in general, that it's great to see the farm before Sussex Horse Rescue. Thanks
My Auntie used to live in Uckfield and when we used to stay there we could quite often hear the old "Thumpers" chugging off up the valley :-). Never know, one day line may re-open back to Lewes....!??
I used to go to Uckfield Country Secondary school in the 1960s. I used live in Fegans Home's Buxted. When we come out of School we used to watch the trains down at Uckfield railway station. Steam Trains back in those days !! Also When I was in Fegans Home's us Boys used to play Cricket in a nearby field and over in the distance sometimes we used to see freight train's going through Buxted Station in the evening times towards London.
Not all of it. The remaining rails and remains of the platforms (including the ground the original station building stood on) are all still there. And beyond the buffer of the remains of the up line, you can walk down a stretch of the old track bed and find a shortcut into the industrial estate. The area around the station is all that's been paved over (which was mostly flat anyway except for when the old shed was on it), and it's as necessary as any other station that has a car park for people who'll be travelling long distances without being able to drive the journey.
Brilliant, detailed video including the old derelict line. Thanks for posting this piece of important railway history.
