This is song is a masterpiece! Rock, rock, rock!!!! True and visceral Maiden. Paul was brilliant, the best Iron Maiden vocalist. Rest in Power Di'anno.
To me this is Iron Maiden. Granted I didn't get into them until '92 but it was the DiAnno stuff I heard first and it's what hooked me. It seems like when Dickson joined (not that they don't have great stuff with him) they toned down the rawness and bite to suit his more 'techincal' vocals. They never recaptured this type of energy. I mean look at the Sanctuary on Live After Death just a few years later, it's played slow, here it's like a punch to the face. I know Harris said he hated punk but this is a punk song. It sounds like Radio Birdman or whatever.
I think what happened or adds is that most people listen to original recordings, They definitely have a more raw tone. During killers or after is when they started to finally clean up the recordings or at least give them polish. I definitely love the new stuff, but I do prefer Dianno as a vocalist but Dickinson isn’t far behind.
same with me. It was this "dirty", punk like raw sound (not only the guitars and the base but also the drums) that fascinated me. Even though the Dickinson albums in the 80s were great and in musical terms superior, the sound was not the same. It became a bit "sterile".
Good comment. Mates loved Clive and actually admitted getting a bit choked on first seeing Live After Death (unusual for 14 year olds back on the day.) Still went on holiday in his Purgatory t-shirt. Paul Dianno’s delivery got Maiden off the ground with that edge.
as a big fan of Maiden and Defender of Metal culture and way to live i'm honoured to put the 1000th like on this old pearl, The Paul Era will remains the best along with the 80s Era with Bruce forever! ❤
1980 Hammersmith Odeon, 16 years old, watched them support Priest. Fantastic night, always remember it. Blew Priest off the stage in my opinion, and Di'Anno's voice suited songs like Santuary and Charlotte the Harlot perfectly. Great times.
I agree, the first 2 albums are their best. Maiden Japan is great as well. I grew up loving Maiden with Bruce but, they were their best on Iron Maiden and Killers!!!!!!
UP THE IRONS IN ILLINOIS!!!!!Greates heavy metal band of all time and they still continue to get snubbed by the rock-n-roll hall of fame.I know it probably doesnt matter to them, but I would like to see them get inducted while they are still playing and sounding great.Take and peace. Thanks for the download, these are some great memories.I've never seen them with Paul Dianno.Saw them the first time on the Number of the beast tour.never saw paul live.Because Killers is my favorite Maiden album.
Wow this is some very vintage stuff right here......besides having Dennis Stratton in it what really caught my eye was the original version of "Eddie the head" n the back board........very cool video, thank for posting.
For some reason I agree with you.Dont get me wrong I obviously love Bruce. But,there is something about the first 2 albums that I just really love, especially Killers.Killers not only had great songs, but a great concept and in my opinion one of the greatest album covers of all time. That is one of the things I miss about "digital" music, the album covers and it doesnt get any better in my opinion than Killers.Take care and peace.
Being a maiden fan since 1988, I was only 14 when the first time I heard this band. Somewhere in time was my first album, I felt in love with this sound. Now first time I see this footage. So classic!! Thank you guys....🤟up the irons!!
Not many groups captured teen angst as well as maiden's first 2 albums. I'll never forget first hearing them. I wanted to immediately drink and party no matter where I was
I agree that early maiden with Di`Anno has some punk influence, but this kinda amuses me since Steve Harris himself hates punk and said Maiden allways took distance from that scene. Still, this has a raw sound and riffing found in much punk as well.
although i was 10 when this came out i wanted to listen to someting other than cliff richard that my parents insisted on playing. what an epiphany :)))))))
Guys , nothing touches ALL OF THEIR albums...Maiden has gone through many changes , yet still has got their own unique feel...let's appreciate it and Keep It Metal !
@BohemianConspiracy Let's go back to '69: both Zepp & Purple did debuts consisting of involved instrumentals many minutes long. Both also from England, did those demonstrations of virtuosity hurt their careers ? The meat of Maidens 'phantom, remember tomorrow, transylvania' are extended jams anyway, with dianno setting up. I just feel they missed glaring moments live to really knock ot outta the park.
@hiowaska Same here mate....I started with Number of the beast and went towards the latter albums but now im just hooked heavily on to the first two albums...their my hands down favourites...
Most people got sick of Maiden long ago. Most people go to see them for the nostalgia, but their record sales have progressively declined since Powerslave. This here is the only true Iron Maiden, IMO.
no Maiden fans love the tunes, I play maiden all the time and I could care fucking less how much records they've sold. people sick of Maiden ..really.. how come every time I see them the place is sold out and there is as many young fans there as old. I will agree the D'ianno Maiden hits closer to the true Maiden but Paul couldn't keep it together.
R.I.P. Paul. Unique voice and presence.
This era of maiden was simply incredible. Paul’s voice, Dave’s guitar, Steve’s bass! Clive’s drums!
Those early days, such a voice, greatly missed, RIP Mr Di'Anno
RIP PAUL...THE BEST.
Today we are all Paul Di'Anno fans, rest in peace mate. Up the Irons!
Благодарю тебя Пол Дианно за всё!Покойся с миром! Running Free!!!
Paul Di'Anno RIP 🙏
This is song is a masterpiece! Rock, rock, rock!!!! True and visceral Maiden. Paul was brilliant, the best Iron Maiden vocalist. Rest in Power Di'anno.
This song is utterly brilliant, not the least of which, the vocal performance and lyric. A driving metal punk noir masterpiece. REST IN POWER
Eternal respect for you Mr. Paul Dianno, you are irreplaceable ✨
Paul D'ianno Was a fucking great singer.
much better than bruce
I prefer Bruce.

It definitely sounds more like punk than metal to me also. Great song

Paul's energy and vocals are top shelf RIP 🙏
Man early Iron Maiden there is not anything like it!
RIP Paul. Had to revisit this amazing live footage. You’ll be missed
So raw, so much power. I love it.

Street Metal at its best! This song really gets the rebel out of you.
1980 Hammersmith Odeon, 16 years old, watched them support Priest. Fantastic night, always remember it. Blew Priest off the stage in my opinion, and Di'Anno's voice suited songs like Santuary and Charlotte the Harlot perfectly. Great times.
This is so much better than when Bruce sings it. I love the bruce era maiden stuff, but paul is just so badass and raw.
clive burr is such an amazing drummer!
I agree, the first 2 albums are their best.
Maiden Japan is great as well.
I grew up loving Maiden with Bruce but, they were their best on Iron Maiden and Killers!!!!!!
They are really rockin' here!
LOVE this concert, have it on the early days dvd, especially this song and charlotte the harlot! :) Up the old school irons! :)
I love this song!!

Incredible Dennis and his kimono :D
Paul diano 👏👏👏iron maiden💥
so raw so good
I love that little reference to Queen's Keep Yourself Alive in there
Mais um grande artista que se foi! Di"Anno vive em nossos corações!!! ❤
that break down at the end kinda reminds me of Keep yourself alive by Queen
That's because it is yo!!

Long live Paul.
Love Dave in this video!
Yeah man! And I love how they still do that when they do it live.
Not many groups captured teen angst as well as maiden's first 2 albums. I'll never forget first hearing them. I wanted to immediately drink and party no matter where I was
That would be truly epic.
Love old school IM

ah days my mistake :p early days i had it till i lost it ;/ awesome dvd up the irons
Pure rock n roll...
I agree that early maiden with Di`Anno has some punk influence, but this kinda amuses me since Steve Harris himself hates punk and said Maiden allways took distance from that scene. Still, this has a raw sound and riffing found in much punk as well.
Steve made his stupid soft metal band without ANY success until Paul joined who changed everything.
Metal band with punk attitude.
This song in particular sounds even closer to punk that to metal itself to me
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAh!
RIP PAUL DÍ' ANNO
awsome! the break was genius
40 fucking years! Jesus Christ where did the time go
PAUL !!!!
although i was 10 when this came out i wanted to listen to someting other than cliff richard that my parents insisted on playing. what an epiphany :)))))))
Can you believe this song wasn't on the first album?
Guys , nothing touches ALL OF THEIR albums...Maiden has gone through many changes , yet still has got their own unique feel...let's appreciate it and Keep It Metal !

Good Old Times
Paul Di'anno the best singer maiden ever had.
@hiowaska Same here mate....I started with Number of the beast and went towards the latter albums but now im just hooked heavily on to the first two albums...their my hands down favourites...
Paul Di'Anno looks like Elvis Presley :D
did anyone ever see Paul Dianno , dB cooper, and elvis in the same place at the same time? and the zodiac killer??? up it!!!
