      Something we used to do in old school tool and die trim line was prick punch the layout line and essentially split the line when machining to that line. It makes a nice reference and would be covered up by the weld.

    Well that turned out great. It's really quite astounding how malleable sheet metal is using simple tools. I have more fun in my shop making tee dollies, dimple dies, and such out of scrap I have lying around. Great work as always Tony. Thanks for bringing us along!

    I feel like to master the cut and butt you need to be really good at your angle grinder (I did a large cut an butt yesterday on a roof panel and I ended up using a 3" cut off disk on a smaller grinder because my angle grinder felt too unwieldy (turned out nice). Also you need to be good at grinding and knowing when to stop grinding (so you don't make the panels thin).

    Tony I saw you first do the cut and butt on a a gas tank access door. When you did that you emphasized cutting at a 45 degree angle. Most of the cutting on this it looked almost perpendicular. Is that 45 degrees not really necessary?

    • @fitzeesfabrications
      @fitzeesfabrications  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No I find it gets a tighter fit with the 45 degree angle. On this it has a curves edge and you can't do a 45 with a zip cut. If I can do a 45 I will.

    I watched Carter Auto Restyling videos on mig welding sheet metal and he likes to weld about an inch and then immediately grind the weld ... then another inch and so on ... says it tempers the metal less and is easier to grind and you don't have all that grinding when your done welding ... I tried it and it works pretty good ... like your videos ... seem more like one of us ...
