  • Join us as we witness the remarkable return of a leopard that many people at Londolozi have grown to know and love, the Mashaba Female. Her unexpected return to the heart of Londolozi after her extended absence has raised many questions. At 15 years old, the Mashaba Female has always been a symbol of strength and resilience in the wild.
After receiving a surprising update over the radio, we couldn't believe our ears. She had ventured far from her usual territory, leaving us to wonder why she had returned now. Could it be excessive pressure from other leopards in the south, or were her hunting grounds not as bountiful as before?
📹 Don't miss this exclusive wildlife adventure as we get up close and personal with the Mashaba Female.

It is a credit to her living to such an age in the wild. Well done beautiful girl. ❤ For whatever reason she has returned it is great to see her. Wishing her many more happy days yet.

Nice to see the old girl. I'm hoping for more years for her. Although she looks relatively in good shape, possibly she returned home to finish her days.. ❤ great sighting

Many times old cats, regardless of the species, will return to the land of their old home. This may not be the case with Mashaba, but they return to their land of origin because (I think) that is where they want to live the last of their lives. It could be pressure from other leopards & also lions, hyenas, wild dogs, but she could have all those pressures present & also just want to return to her old home land. Who knows, but this is what I suspect. 15 years old is IMPRESSIVE for any wild species or domestic cat. She looks in really good health, but maybe she knows the end is near for her in the next year or two. She wants to be close to her roots.

Correct, old male lions do the same in their final days. I saw one very old lion return to the pride it had once dominated, and the resident lion even accepted its presence knowing it would die soon. The lion died shortly thereafter.

Pictures of the Mashaba Female are what enamored me with Londolozi and its wildlife, so any and all updates on her at this point are most welcome. She is such a trooper and it's unfortunate she never managed to raise more cubs (assuming that she won't be able to produce another viable litter again at her age). But her daughters have definitely done her proud.

She is an amazing leopardess, it is a pity that she was unable to raise more cubs, but the ones that she did raise have given us the most incredible sightings.

She could possibly be in search of a male? Maybe nothing in her old territory , and sometimes sadly they come to a new area to end off their last days at that old age ? She has had a good innings at 15 years .

Is she marking? Maybe she will just be nomadic now.

No she is just roaming now, no longer scent-marking.
