I never saw this method of finishing Sunshine. Crazy to look without explanations, I'm going to educate myself on what the f just happened to understand the programming shenanigans that happen behind the scenes ! GG Weegee :)
Nice run, pity about that missed pound in the Bowser fight. Kinda funny in a way that you nail the really hard bit but then mess up the easy bit. Always happens!
Don't know how ground pounding and constantly pausing around some boxes and repeatedly spraying walls with water gets you to the final bowser boss, but cool run!
Abyssoft has recently put out a video that explains what's going on. There's a lot of cutscene manipulation, stale pointer references and arbitrary code execution happening.
A "hacked file" allows you to play the game normally without the long cutscenes at the start. It doesn't modify the game, just removes the need to watch the cutscenes. Even in Non-Ace runs runners use it.
arbitrary code execution. basically performing a series of actions in game to fuck with the programming of the game, making it glitch and doing things such as sending you to the end
I tried speedrunning any% SMS back in 2017, but gave up after a month. Can someone give me an idiot's guide to what is happening here? Like for example why is he repeatedly spawning the same blue coin at around 2:47?
So, he's filling the memory allocation for cutscenes with different scenes to cause an underflow, since the shine get cutscene is poorly programmed, and the resolution doesn't land in the same bit of memory that the cutscene initially loaded into.
ACE is still blowing my mind, can’t wait to see how optimized it becomes.
Apparently the perfect ace run done by a tas is around 9ish minutes. I forgot the seconds maybe with like 40 seconds
The TAS is a 9:50
@@trentthen642 I wanna see how far the barrier can be pushed for humans too.

Weegee doing the weegee things

That's the bare basics, but there's significantly more to it than just that
You can see where the payload is resolving at 10:30-ish
@@ArcheoLumieremakes sense, but how does it just right to the end after that white screen?
