Is Nea Kameni active?
This island is formed by a series of eruptions but has been dormant for the past 70 years or so. It is a great spot for a hike to see some craters. The views here are great as well. Nea Kameni (or 'New Burnt Island') is an uninhabited island, smack bang in the middle of the Santorini caldera.

How to Get There. Nea Kameni is located off the west coast of Santorini in the Greek Cyclades islands and is only reachable by boat. Join a private tour or a larger group cruise departing from one of the ports on the west coast of Santorini. Helicopter tours fly over the island but do not land.
When was the last eruption of the Nea Kameni?
1950
Major eruptions over the past 300 years took place in 1707-1712, 1866-1870, 1925-1928, and 1939-1941. The last small eruption happened in 1950 and involved lava dome extrusion.
Is Santorini a dead volcano?
Although the massive volcano of Santorini has been dormant since its last eruption in the in the 1950s, it is still considered active.
