Ashildr The Swift you’re probably right. People are dumb enough to spend $70 on a dress like that even though a ton of other retailers have something similar for half the price.
Terribly sad she didn't win bc she deserved it but lets hope this means better for her lol Would have hated to see how Amazon would butcher it in production. She deserves better.
i really think that the Korean designer who had made the garments with the lines shouldve won and honestly it wouldve been more interesting for people to spend their money on it had a USP i feel which the black dress that got selected to be sold didnot have
She'll probably keep being in the top but never win because of how intricate and cool her looks are which amazon would not want to produce because they can't make them from crappy polyester for 3 cents
wtf is martha even doing on that show, that drop waist dress look like what a mom who just learn how a sewing machine works would create for a 4 years old birthday

How do you find designers that sound so good on paper and then have them be so disappointing? That's amazing.
Omg totally agree they had a big budget and all the infrastructure to do something amazing but they missed the point good design. Next in fashion was instead super simple but with incredible designers
Sabato is so underrated his looks for first two episodes were so beautiful and unique. I would actually buy those elegant dresses. But I guess it’s not so modern, which is very annoying and it is probably hard to make
All that budget thrown on locations and sets and nothing on a good format. Like the judges themselves don't even know wtf the concepts of the looks are???? I agree I would have liked it if they introduced the seamstresses and given us at least a peak of how they assist the designers. I don't know why these shows think no one is interested in that.
Something that I liked a lot of Next in Fashion is that they introduced the seamstresses that helped make the final collection, and you could also see the designers talk to them and collaborate.
Amazon, er the judges are going to pick the look that is the easiest and CHEAPEST to make/produce. And who knows-They might only produce 100 just to be able to “sell out “.
I actually have no doubt that they only produced about a 100 pieces max. The clothes were always "sold out" the day after the episode aired but they usually got only 3-4 reviews
I liked Martha being really out there I just feel like she needed more talent to stay on the show but yeah Luke was right with her style being so gaudy if she had actual talent she would have been like the Gianni Versace of the group and he's literally my favorite fashion designer. ❤️
I'm feeling that this show is rigged by bids to let her stay because boi lemme tell you what she designed can literally be designed by any kindergarten child and still be better than hers plus if she is looking for the dollish style. Japan and Melanie Martinez's style is so much better at this. I just- I CANNOT
The fact that they made Sander spend a month pouring his heart into a mini collection only to say no, you can’t show it, after he had spent one day in New York- I would have been FUMING!! WHat the hell was that about
This show is basically a show NBC cancelled a few years ago called Fashion Star, coincidentally a show Nicole Richie was also a judge on. Basically designers presented looks to a panel of judges as well as buyers from Macy's, Saks, H&M, and Express. The winner of the week had their look sold on the stores website that bid the highest to have it. That show only lasted two seasons.
Haven’t seen the show but judging only by the runway looks, the contestant quality of Next in Fashion is MUCH MUCH higher. Most contestants of NIF have a unique vision and quite outstanding sewing skills.
Totally agree, the first episode of NiF had so many great looks. You could see that everyone was very talented and had a lot of experience (except the lazy guy that was eliminated).
I thought I was the only one that did not understand how Esther won that first challenge. I feel like the garments are getting better as the show progresses but I am rooting for either Ji Won or Sander
Me too! I really wanted it to come down to Ji Won or Sander. (I really thought Sabato's aesthetic was great as well.) However, after seeing how poor the quality of the garments are that Amazon chose to reproduce, I think Ji Won and Sander perhaps dodged a bullet by not having to translate their brands into a polyester mess. Ji Won could have amazing success continuing on with Adidas, I could see every Instagram influencer wanting to wear her brand. Sander also has the potential to build one the next hot fashion houses of the future. I loved every piece he made and I think his brand deserves way better than Amazon anyway.
I’m pretty sure all the winning looks are gonna be pieces that are gonna be EASY AND CHEAP to reproduce. This show is literally perfect for fast fashion
They're selling in an Amazon pop-up shop, so yes, the designers need to consider their target shoppers, just as a buyer for that shop would. It seems like this show is trying to get closer to the business reality of the fashion world.
Making the Cut is a long advertisement for Amazon’s sweat shop clothing lines. If you cant make it with cheap fabrics in under 2 hours you are eliminated. Magpie is perfect for this pitch.
The only reason I’m watching this show is because Naomi is in it and her reactions are priceless. I can’t believe they’re giving someone in this show a million dollars 🤦🏻♂️
i feel like the reason esther won is because her design was fairly simple so amazon could have made it quickly and for a low price, but it wasn't so basic that it would match a dress that is already somewhere on amazon fashion
Tim Gunn is an icon, that look he gave Magpie Martha when she asked, "do you see what I see?" I died 😂 Honestly I'm gonna have to watch the show tho, it looks promising!
I just finished the episodes 2 days ago and TH-cam searched if anyone reviewed the show. PRAISE the fashion gods you are here to review in the most fun, sassy, b*tchy, analytical way💁♀️💁♀️💁♀️
The judging in this show is so weird like.....eliminating someone during critique on the spot? Heidi are you okay? Honestly Sabato or Jin Wong should've taken this first win.
It keeps getting worse every single time. When they shifted to Japan, the clothes got a little better - but then they lost all their judges and got Chiara Ferragni sooooooo....yeah its bad.
I agree with you 100%. The reason Esther won this episode is because it was a very simple, easy to produce, product that Amazon could make quickly and cheaply. It's a basic, boring dress that you see at Target regularly for swimsuit coverups. Sad. Oh, and, Esther's crutch of only working in black is a lazy excuse for inability to design.
I think there's a behind the scene judging aspect focused on how easily the pieces can be produced and profit margins and what people will buy etc. In other words, I think the show itself has the unfortunate probability of being strangled artistically because of behind the scenes profit margins pushed by amazon.
I am so confused. Can someone explain to me how the judges determine who stays and who goes, because um....some of those looks were....blah :/ Kinda disappointed
PLEASE make more videos about other episodes of this. I mean, no pressure, love your channel and respect your choices. But at the same time, you help my fragile sanity in these insane times, and I want soooo much more of this!! Thank you for your service to humanity.
I just started watching today so I could keep up with your uploads lol Esther's capsule collection has literally been done by every wanna be grungy/avant garde fashion student in Eastern Europe. Magpie Martha is delusional. The only ones I'm excited about are Ji Won and Sabato.
I just finished the whole season... And i need you to watch the whole show please! But you are so right... They had some many boring designers. I think this budget thrown at the contestants from Next in Fashion would have made a show better than both of these.
Please continue this series because I'd like to know what you think of the finale. I agree with all your critique. I loved Esther and Sander throughout the competiton.
Day 4 of asking for a mega-makeover series where: Hyram does the skincare Brad Mondo does the hair Robert Welsh does the makeup HauteLeMode styles the outfit
I'm very glad you reviewed this! Naomi wears a gorgeous dress in the second episode and I'd love to know who it is by. Also, I liked some of the future winning looks but seeing that they're ALL made of polyester in the amazon store I'm highly highly disappointed.
Megan had some really sophisticated and creative designs. And Sander with a really artistic flair. I'm sad they didn't make it to the finals because I think they deserved it. Amazon in the end cares about profit and not about creativity. While I am happy for the two finalists, I feel like there were much better designers. The finalists were too bland and generic and frankly, that type of fashion is so common nowadays it doesn't stand out -also just a side rant to defend Megan's black suit in the episode she left. Having a preference for all black clothing and using all black clothing are two different things. She created an all black suit that fitted her style, but the judges (most anyways) were too focused on rhe "all black" the other designer doesnt own the "all black" look just because it is her preference
Just finished episode 6, and Sander is my favourite 💕 I really like the way the show is planned, compared to Next in Fashion (although I like both shows!). I feel like Making the Cut has so many elements to it that show more facets to the fashion world (like seamstresses), and make it open to not just designers but creative directors as well. And by having the seamstresses the contestants aren’t as stressed, we get to see more complete looks, and contestants aren’t penalized for their sewing abilities on a design show. Although, I kinda wish we had the designers from Next in Fashion on this show instead of the designers we got. I think the Next in Fashion designers probably would have had more drive then what we’re seeing (other then a few of the better designers on Making the Cut, like Ester, Ji Won, and Sander). And I think the budget + seamstresses would have let Angelo from Next in Fashion thrive, instead of being eliminated because of his sewing abilities. Also I love the big budget! We get to go to Paris, have Naomi Campbell as a judge, and have better sets for shows then Next in Fashion. I think Making the Cut has higher stakes, but I don’t think that a lot of the designers are deserving of the opportunity? Anyways love both shows, and I’m happy we’re getting two fashion shows with people who have actual experience in the industry!
I've just watched season 2. It's slightly better than season 1, but it was too short. The problem with this show is the selection of designers. Most of the designers are either too commercial or they are not highly skilled enough for the show. The only one that stood out to me was Gary. He is the definition of what fashion is really about. He's unique, artistic and made the most interesting garments. They should have chosen more designers like him, then the competition would have been tougher. This show tells you that its a fashion design competition, yet It's more concerned about business and marketing ability than fashion design itself and simply what you can put on amazon. I also didn't like the choice of judges. Jeremy Scott was the only one with the valid opinions. All heidi and winnie Harlow talked about is what they would or would not wear. These two think commercially (plus they're models so.. )and Jeremy thinks design-wise. They should have included another judge who's a designer/works in a fashion magazine , then the judgements would have been fairer. In the end, project runway is the best fashion design competition.
Esther is a super nice and down to earth person. Her brand is loved by the Berlin avant-garde scene, like e.g. the photographer & Berghain bouncer Sven Marquardt.
Speaking of Isaac Mizrahi I’d love to see your take on his 90s collections and why you think certain high end designers moved to more fast fashion clothing. Also, as someone who watches a ton of your videos and I’d love for you give an in-depth explanation as to why you can’t stand Derek Blasberg and Chiara Ferragni, I’m always interested in hearing your always hilarious but also thought provoking reasons and the background behind your thinking.
Oh man, keep these coming! your review and tempo is much more reasonable than the show itself. I won’t watch it on amazon, but I’d more than gladly watch it through your channel
What people don’t get is that it’s AMAZON it’s about what will sell more not who is more deserving. That’s why i don’t agree with the final winner of the season
The biggest problem when people are purchasing a dress is that they are purchasing something "in a model's body", they dont usually think about their own body to see if it's going to be flattering or not.
I think you would enjoy doing a full series on Next in Fashion more than Making the Cut. NIF has its issues with judging standards and consistency but the designers and the garments they create the entire series were far, far better and more enjoyable to see come to life. Kinda seems like Netflix did their casting before Amazon and booked up all the best designers because the difference in talent level between the two shows is crazy.
I can’t believe you brought up Isaac and QVC. I love to watch his segment because i truly believe he doesn’t know any of the items he is selling and I have a hard time believing he really thinks the old lady clothes he sells are “chic” but I love watching him trying to convince others. It’s great background noise while I work.
I thought Jasmine had more potential than Martha. I think they kept Martha for drama purposes... Also, can you please make the video on Carine Roitfeld and Tom Ford? :O
There's more of this? You are that friend that I need to watch this kind of tv shows. I started to watch your videos when you didn't have a beard a long time ago, always new there's something special in you. Really excited about what you are doing next.
I just watched episode 6 and wondering why Meghan was not shown in front the judges and given feedback?! Her pieces are beautiful ..... She’s not getting the time and attention she deserves!
I literally have nothing to do, but I still feel like Martha wasted my time

Same! She was pathetic, sorry not sorry.
I fast forwarded through her parts!
Idk I thought it was pretty inspirational how she made her dream of becoming a fashion designer come true without having any creative vision or talent!
Laura E. 😂😂😂
Conspiracy: Esther won because her look is cheap to produce
Ellie Smelly OMG I THOUGHT THE SAME THING!
Considering the other wins so far this season, I am totally behind this theory.
I totally thought the same, I like Ji Won the most and think her clothes would be too difficult to reproduce cheaply and fast.
Was literally about to type the same thing
I mean... look at the material
Naomi *did not* deserve to be put through this
Naomi's face whenever she saw something unworthy -.- priceless
love her attitude, we stan
Naomi should've been a judge for Next in Fashion
She is co producing this whole shit show, she is definately not there for the judging and the candidates
but I'm so glad she was so I could see her rip some of them to shreds. "It's about RESPECT!" 😂
I really don’t understand why the Korean-American designer didn’t win. She has the most interesting looks that also looks really well made.
Lauren D exactly!
They probably are only picking looks which are easy and cheap to reproduce
Ashildr The Swift you’re probably right. People are dumb enough to spend $70 on a dress like that even though a ton of other retailers have something similar for half the price.
Yes. I agree they don't care about an actual pretty design.

Same with Esther like... you take a train or a plane from Berlin to Paris in no time. Plane should be like a 1h flight and train maybe 4h.
@@meatysheep The train definitely takes longer than 4 hours, but I see what you're getting at
It's more like 4 hours from Hasselt.
I think both Esther and Sander, if given the choice wouldn't want to miss the launch of the competition. I wouldn't tbh.

The finalists were too bland and generic and frankly, that type of fashion is so common nowadays it doesn't stand out
-also just a side rant to defend Megan's black suit in the episode she left. Having a preference for all black clothing and using all black clothing are two different things. She created an all black suit that fitted her style, but the judges (most anyways) were too focused on rhe "all black" the other designer doesnt own the "all black" look just because it is her preference
This was so fun to watch! I agree with you and your humor is delightful!
Who decided to waste the poor Eiffel Tower's time for these pointless pieces lolol
Edit : Oh, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought so lol
I agree all the looks were boring and just not good besides Korean lady
I love that you went through kinda same journey with Martha ( and all her tackiness ) that I did
Excellent review. I have not watched any episode yet, now I know what to expect.
I'm still waiting for an African fashion show/award show reviews.
The winning look kinda looks like a dress i would wear on the first three days of my period to hide my puffed up body 🤣 not cute.
"One sleeve leather dress I can find on Fashion Nova, I HOPE NOT"
"Looks like it's being held together by a chip clip"
💀💀💀
Do you remember fashion star? It’s my favorite fashion competition show. The designers get to sell their designs at H&M, Macy and Saks
YOU make these shows 10000% more fun!!!! Love you so much!!!!!!!!
I feel like Martha’s dress was designed for a grown up JoJo Siwa
Literally got this notification as I was watching making the cut 😭
Esther is a super nice and down to earth person. Her brand is loved by the Berlin avant-garde scene, like e.g. the photographer & Berghain bouncer Sven Marquardt.
Pleaseee make this a series if it feels okay to you - i love your commentary!
Liz yaasssssssss
This video had your most ICONIC commentary. I’m dead and living simultaneously- thank you 🖤
Pretty sure they could not have ji won win because her look would have been harder and way more effort to recreate to then sell on amazon.
Oh man, keep these coming!
your review and tempo is much more reasonable than the show itself. I won’t watch it on amazon, but I’d more than gladly watch it through your channel
The cast responsible person needs to get fired, these are the most boring designers I’ve seen. Those in next in fashion were better
What people don’t get is that it’s AMAZON it’s about what will sell more not who is more deserving. That’s why i don’t agree with the final winner of the season
omg when i saw ji won i was actually excited, i loved the adidas collection so much 🥰
For some reason your poutee face and glib one liners cheers me up, no end! Thank-you for being you
Esthers dress looked like something you’d throw over your swimsuit when you’re going to the beach
The biggest problem when people are purchasing a dress is that they are purchasing something "in a model's body", they dont usually think about their own body to see if it's going to be flattering or not.
Me and my mom call ji “minji” bc her runway from this episode looked very reminiscent of minju’s style from next in fashion
I just hate how hard it’s to stop listening to you! Haha I wish I knew this channel in quarantine 😫 you’re fantastic!
Whenever someone praises Belgium for one of the few things we're good at, I'm so proud of my country haha
love your cliff notes on the show...you made it so entertaining! At the same time, intelligent points well made.
I thought Jasmine had more potential than Martha. I think they kept Martha for drama purposes...
Also, can you please make the video on Carine Roitfeld and Tom Ford? :O
Sophia Zhai agree! I need the Carine & Tom tea ASAP. Quarantine would be so much better knowing about them!
There's more of this? You are that friend that I need to watch this kind of tv shows. I started to watch your videos when you didn't have a beard a long time ago, always new there's something special in you. Really excited about what you are doing next.
OMG I was gonna suggest that you react to Making the Cut and then I get this notification!!😍😍
Pleaseeee keep doing videos about Making The Cut 💕 Love your channel
I just watched episode 6 and wondering why Meghan was not shown in front the judges and given feedback?! Her pieces are beautiful ..... She’s not getting the time and attention she deserves!
YES, I definitely want to see you react to the other episodes!
