I love the standards you're setting for yourself and reducing the amount of noise and distraction in your life. Getting back to things that bring you joy and peace is crucial to one's happiness and self care. You made me realize I should prioritize these things in my own life. I spend way too much time mindlessly scrolling.

Shelly from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Ever since I turned 25 in September last year, I have honestly been spiraling and I’ve been having a really hard time trying to get a grip on reality. I have been focusing heavily on things that I have not achieved versus things that I have since entering my 20s. I have lost sight of the big picture. My self-esteem is at an all-time low and I’m really having a hard time getting back to how I was mentally just a few years ago. I know that how I’m feeling right now is temporary and I have never failed to bring myself back from things like this but it just feels so different now that I’m 25. They say that the frontal lobe fully develops at 25 and I completely understand what they mean now. I’ve never felt this type of fear before to hurry up and get everything accomplished in such a short amount of time. But everything that you talked about relating to age and not focusing too much on that aspect genuinely put my mind at ease. I just have to keep reminding myself that it is not the end of the world. I am okay and that everything that I want to happen does not need to happen all at once. I’m really working on looking at the glass half full, but it’s just hard but I will keep pushing. So thank you ❤

Girl, I feel you about self help. I stopped reading them years ago. I started to feel like they are kinda repetitive. It got exhausting- 5 ways for this , how to become a better that. They’re not all bad, but not my fav anymore especially since I started praying more about those areas. There’s a whole black booktube if you need inspiration. Missed you girl ❤
Hi and happy belated birthday. I'm so glad you took the time to reflect and improve the connections that most matter. Sometimes we allow the noise of what's going on around our lives to trick us into believing that's how our life has to be. Not unless we allow it.
It's so crazy (in a good way) how one day I can read a bible verse and see it one way. Another day, I read THE SAME VERSE and pull a deeper, sometimes different meaning from it.

I love that you’re going to start reading more fiction books. As an avid reader I also had to stray away from self help books and the overwhelming feeling to “fix myself”. I love reading romance and thrillers now!
I truly believe that every human needs a detox from social every so often. Our brains are so fragile, but powerful at the same time! We just need a deep refresher and reset! Super happy you’re using your platform to talk about this subject!
As I’m watching this I can so relate finally in a season of isolation where your not uncomfortable, getting closure to god and just disconnecting from the world and not focused on others or mindlessly scrolling or consuming. Putting faith in god to do what he needs to because it’s really out of our control. Connected back to my own life and what I’m grateful for and heavy on the doing things that you actually like and not always in the hammer wheel of needed to change or fix something. I realized that it was making me exhausted and Highkey felt as though I was loosing my identity.

Hey, Shelly! I want to share something that’s really been a game changer for me when it comes to reading. I listen to the audiobook for self-help/self improvement books and read the physical or kindle version for fiction/fun etc. For some reason it just works out better for me and I retain the information better. Either way, allowing myself the freedom to read for fun again has been so rewarding and I am glad you are doing it as well.
I do the same thing Sis, this is a game-changing method ♥
That's a really good idea, I enjoy reading for entertainment purposes I love a good mystery but it takes me a while to get through self help/improvement books, so I will definitely try this!

Glad you’re on the mend I had the exact exact exact same thing. 2 trips to the hospital no flu no Covid no rsv. My nasal passages were completely closed, fever, chills all the things. Dr said just new virus for the year. Got sick Christmas night and I’m still nasally and coughing a bit . But by Gods grace I’m about 80%. I will keep you in my prayers.

I think as Christian’s we need to be careful of some of the agendas behind ‘self help’ and ‘self love’.
It’s not our will but God’s will for our life. I’m all for development within but there’s a lot of self idolisation in this generation and we’re warned about lovers of self in the bible.

I didn’t believe in the Stanley Cup at first but my boyfriend bought me one for my birthday and I finally understood the hype. I am a proud owner of three now and love them! Definitely has increased my water intake and I take the cup everywhere I go even into restaurants 😅
