Thanks for this!!! This is the best explanation! I'm starting a nurse practitioner program I will be in Occupational Health / primary care adult gerontology.. I don't want to work with pediatric so I didn't take the FNP route. This is right up my alley!!
This is the program I’m starting as well. I’m curious how it’s going for you and if there are any job leads you’ve experienced since you’ve started the OCC health specialty..
Thank you for creating your channel. As a current black, female PA student, I'm trying to prepare myself for the negative remarks I will receive from patients and colleagues. Thank you for being unapologetically educated and successful. I'm thinking about pursuing my doctorate after I graduate; how will a doctorate increase your knowledge of healthcare and make you a better medical provider? Will your salary and/or responsibilities increase with a doctorate? The Masters in PA Studies will be my 3rd master's degree and I'm trying to compare the pros vs cons of obtaining a doctorate?
Hi, thank you for watching! Wow, 3 masters degrees is impressive. I think it is important to know your "why" in obtaining your doctorates because it doesn't necessarily translate into more pay. I will, of course, make sure I get more pay. ;-) I will be releasing a video about my doctoral route now that I am in the last semester after I edit it. Best of luck as you are finishing PA school!
I think it a a great place to learn a lot. As long as you have ambition and a great onboarding, do it. Ask questions, don't be afraid to look anything up. All the best!
I am studying at UCLA to get my degree to transfer to PA school. I am interested in this job as statistically it has the best potential to reduce career burnout. I wanted to ask what job I should apply for to get those 750+ direct patient care hours?
You have options! I believe I made a video, but maybe I did not. In short, EMT, phlebotomist, CNA, Medical Assistant, Physical therapy assistant.....anything in healthcare
It is a tough call! You gotta really evaluate what all is going on in your life, plan it out as best you can. I also recommend shadowing a nurse and a PA or simply asking them if they would do it the same way? If they have any regret?
I want to go to PA school but I have no idea where to start I’m in community college still pursuing my AA degree and I am a nursing major but the more I look into other professions I can’t help but feel like nursing won’t be as enjoyable. I wanted to know how long is PA school after getting an AA degree? Do you know if you need a four year degree before trying to get into PA school? Anything helps thank you ❤️
I'm like you. I have an associates and didn't get my bachelor's degree to get into PA school. Check the pre-requisites for a combined B.S/M.S. Physician assistant program in your state. Get the core science prerequisites at your community college to save money then apply. (Technically my community college credits make up the b.s. degree but half the cost) Also, you may need to take the GRE depending on the college. We need more black health professionals so find something you love! Good luck!!!
Thanks for watching. It really depends on the school. You do not have to do nursing. You can do that or something else as long as you meet the requirements. Other options would be respiratory therapist, physical therapy assistant, pharmacy tech....You want to be able to make some money because not everyone gets in on their first attempt.
Have an interview in Occupational Health on Monday and this was very helpful. Thank you!!

Thank you so much for watching! Yes, working with other people's kids is not for me!

What DOT course did you use for exam?
The job paid for OakStone...I think that was what it was
Do all occupational medicine PAs do suturing?
I'm not sure to be honest....I'd assume they need to know how with all the work injuries that are lacerations...
