Hey welcome to the channel and thank you for the question :) You could definitely side Ash or droll based on the matchups. Also, you mostly want to side going first cards like d barrier, anti spell, gravity collapse, called by the grave, circle and water tenyi etc. The main deck already has going second card and backrow covered so basically you just want going first stuff and cards for specific match ups. Book of moon and eclipse are also good options right now depending on the matchup :)
LMAO, I played this week in and week out at locals in early 2022 before I transitioned to prank kids, and I had a lot of fun just turning off my brain until it was my turn :)
What do you think about Kurikara or Kaijus in a build like this? The blowout spells are strong but can struggle against floodgates that lock them out like Nat beast or Antispell and I'm thinking it could help with that some. Maybe not quite as consistent since you can't thrust into them I suppose?
So yeah, there are many pros and cons to both sides of that coin. I think the biggest thing giving upside to monster board breakers in the scenario you laid out, along with cards like anti spell, however, perhaps the upside of the spells and evenly matched is their ability to clear 90%+ of the board in most scenarios. Also, I should mention that the swordsoul engine alone is extremely good going second. 1 vishuda outs anti spell or nat beast or any 1 pesky card. Barrone can pop, baxia can shuffle back 1 or 2 depending if you use mo ye or taia, yazi can pop. Long story short, I guess I prefer the spells and traps because the upside is better, and the downside can be worked around with the swordsoul engine. Even longer story short, they better have it, and you better draw the out lmao
