- Chorus from "Elijah" (by Felix Mendelssohn). Performed by Seattle Pro Musica, soloists and orchestra, under the direction of the Karen P. Thomas. Live recording from a May 2009 performance, St. James Cathedral, Seattle. Audio by Bill Levey. Video by Mitchell Haindfield.
I'm singing this in my college choir and the "Shouldst thou walking in grief" makes me want to dwell in the world of c# minor for all eternity.
I also love the modulation back to D Major. Sublime.
enjoyed both your comments^^
He watching over Israel tabernacle choir
As a member of Washington National Cathedral , it brings tears of Joys to Hear Mendolsohns Elijah brought to us with greatest Comfort and Joy . Bravo from us all @ WNC
When I sang this with Robert Shaw he said," I will personally throttle anyone who sings SLUMBERS SNOT!). He meant it.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Wonderful everything. Especially lightness of voices, no oversinging, beautiful blend.
although I have not sung this piece for 48+ years, still one my favs, what tenor could forget it
+mad trollie The kind that is really a baritone and shouldn't be singing all those F Sharps? ;) It's a beautiful piece though.
+Aaron Robinson agree, why don't they leave certain parts, to T1's, it's both our job, and our joy
I think I come back to this piece so many times because of the tenor part. It was truly sublime. Sang it while in Uni some 20+ ago and still love to listen to and try to sing my part, whenever I can. :)
This is superlative singing. All head voice, ringing and resonant and such a wonderfully expressive performance. How so many in the world do not get what the true art of singing is. Just terrific. Kudos to all involved.
Very fine rendition. One of the best I've heard on TH-cam Thank you for featuring an orchestra. With all due respect to piano versions, they cannot compare to the sound of a full orchestra in this piece.
Some of the best conducting I've ever seen. Not a single spurious or vague movement. A super example of purposeful, communicative direction. Well done!!
Your comment makes me think that you recognize good conducting.Pls check out this gentleman.Dr Max Ferdinan.Conductor for
the Aeolians in Huntsville Alabama.Oakwood Univercity. It is said he is a good one. Please check him out and leave a'comment stating your opinion Thanks. Fyi I know nothing about music but I love love listening to choirs.
So nice to hear Israel pronounced correctly!
Everything about this performance is gorgeous. It's such a joy to hear the entirety of the soprano section hit that opening section without a single forced high note - light and clear as a bell and seemingly effortless.
i curently sing this in my highschool mixed choir and im a base and its and awsome song to sing
Absolutely beautiful ❤️
For your high school experience, watch on 1.25x
Beautifully musical performance. Thank you. What a blessing.
The best of all those I have listened to. A beautiful piece, first, that deserves a performance such as this.
I don't know what to say, this suspended me up in the air FANTASTIC!!!!
I couldn't agree more with you! This was absolutely beautiful and meaningful!
잘 듣고 갑니다. 돌아오는 주일 찬양곡입니다. 감동압니다
Wonderful performance!
an amazing interpretation.
Exquisite
Very well done.
Does anyone have the complete oratorio "Elijah?" I had it,but misplaced the second half and am hoping someone out there can help me get another complete version. I sang it countless times in my singing career, starting in high school and retiring in 1995 .I am 80 years now.
''He watching slumbers not - nor sleeps ...'' ... good to know!
I love it! I only wish that the sound and visual had been in better sync.
@arihouie AGREED.
Recording quality is superior. Performance is really, really, good. Would have loved a bit more low end (mixing?) - personal preference. And sorry, one little comment... Tenors? Hope this recording serves as excellent motivation for you.
Not bad,but still not as good as the Tabernacle Choir,It may be a case of comparing apples to oranges but the trebles are a bit harsh in certain places and do not achieve the same effect as the sopranos on the Tabernacle Choir ,which I suppose should be expected ',After all,its the Tabernacle Choir.
Meh. Altos sound like sopranos. The "languish" section is without passion. the whole thing is a bit too fast.
