- Installing the chain in a DeWalt Pole Saw
My guide bar is upside down today. It works the same upside down or not. I flick a finger across the sharp part of the chain to confirm it's pointing forward.
Remove sprocket cover during work and it will be clogged with wood, branch, and leaf debris. Clean it often like maybe everytime you swap out the battery.
Use screwdriver and turn chain tension screw left. Watch adjustment pin move towards sprocket.
Location pin fits slot of guide bar. Chain wraps around sprocket.
Install sprocket cover. Apply hex screws enough to hold it together but not super tight. See how loose the chain is?
Use screwdriver again to turn chain tension screw right and watch the chain tighten.
Pull chain to confirm it allows 1/8" inch before snapping back. The tension is correct when the chain snaps back after being pulled 1/8" away from the guide bar. The chain does not sag.
Pray everything is correct. Insert battery. Test pole saw cutting something simple. Turn off and confirm chain still allows 1/8" inch gap before snapping back.
Go to work however stop immediately for real or imagined problems.
When you change the battery, add oil, clean debris out of sprocket cover, or have some other problem, always disconnect sprocket cover, inspect everything for problems, and repeat the process in my video.
You'll be fine. Just know that electric pole saws like yours and gasoline-powered chain saws like tree cutting services use both have the same chain mechanism and chain saw assembly procedure. The Dewalt company DID NOT simplify or change that part.
Thank you for this video!
