- The Promise of the Holy Spirit: God promises to love us forever and ever!
Based on Spark Family Magazine, Vol. 4 No. 4
1) Song: The Hippo Song
2) This Sunday is a very important day for the church. It’s called Pentecost and it is a day to celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit. After Jesus was raised and went back to heaven, he gave us his Spirit so he would always be with us. On Pentecost, we wear the color red to symbolize the Holy Spirit. Pentecost is kind of like the birthday for the church.
Before we continue, go find something red to wear!
Once you’re back, think about your birthday. What does your family do for your birthday?
3) Song: Happy Birthday
4) The disciples were very sad when Jesus left before they received the Spirit.
When have you heard sad news?
But when the Spirit came to the disciples, they were so thrilled and happy!
When have you heard happy news?
5) Listen to the Story
6) Song: Radical God!
7) “Promise” starts with the letter “P”.
What other words can you think of that start with the letter “P”?
Find something in the room that starts with the letter “P”!
8) Older Kids: We can’t see the Holy Spirit, but the Bible gives us symbols (similes and metaphors) that help us understand what the Holy Spirit is like.
What are those symbols? Look them up in the verses below and list them:
John 1:32
Acts 2:2-3
Mark 1:9-12 (especially verse 10)
John 3:8
9) Lord You Are
10) Sometime this week, go on a walk and take pictures of all the red things you see. You can post them on social media with the hashtag #pentecost
End with prayer.
Dear God, thank you for keeping your promises. We’re glad that you’re always with us through the Holy Spirit. Amen.
