Very inventive mechanism. By positioning the mechanism next to the mattress in place of below it allows for a thicker mattress. However, the combination of the brackets creates a mechanism that is inherently unstable. I realized this when I recreated it in real life. The animation looks great but does not show the various movement alternatives that could go wrong. This mechanism requires a support on at least one side to avoid the bed crashing back into the drawer. Also: the top pin which blocks the mechanism is bound to wear over time (small area with substantial pressure). This may lead to height differences between the two beds. More work is needed to perfect this mechanism. At present the most stable mechanism still is the one using two connected rotating brackets.
I've seen many mechanisms for converting sofas to beds, some of them are more practical than others. But the question I want to ask is why do the designers never make an effort to hide the mechanics? With a drawer-like section that pulls out, how hard would it be to put panels on the side to hide the frames and hinges? It would certainly be less of an eye-sore.

My sofa has a pull up similar to the one shown. The pullout is covered with a box and matching material so that you don't see the workings.
