I had been using Menards Premium for the past two seasons and switched to Ecorganite this season after doing some reading online and was unable to find Milorgaite locally. I've been very happy with the Ecorganite. My lawn is the darkest on the street and it seems very healthy. I have noticed that the weeds seem to be a little more abundant , but I can't say one way or the other if it has anything to do with the fertilizer. I can tell you that I have been very happy with the results.

Yeah we buy the Menards stuff because it's more available and cheaper. They also carry a really good iron pro and they also have chicken poop we use that on The lawns also. But mostly more in the flower beds.

Last year the local Menards had Milorganite for $9/bag, none in stock this year

That would be a great price

Menards is now selling its own brand equivalent to Milorganite/eCorganite: FOREVER GREEN® Natural Slow Release Nitrogen Lawn Fertilizer - 2,500 sq. ft. @ $14.99 bag reg price; after 11% rebate $13.34 ea.

@@kelley769 Yes I had looked at that Menards product before I left that comment 3+months ago. Too much phosphorous for the amount of Nitrogen in my opinion. This year I used a Wisconsin-made product called "Moorganite". It has no human waste(biosolids) in it and the ingredients are similar to what is used in common organic garden fertilizers. I bought it on sale for $17.99/2500sqft at Blains Farm and Fleet. I also spray a mix of liquid fish fertilizer and blackstrap molasses on the lawn through a Ortho brand hose end sprayer. Results are great in the shaded areas, but due to lack of rain the full sun areas are suffering a bit. Driest May since 2012 here.

What do you know about potassium and phosphurous ? There is a liquid 0-0-25 . Will help with heat stress on a lawn?

Slow release fertilizer is the best for heat of summer because the grass isnt growing much anyway. but numbers that include more nitrogen (up to 15) and less of the others (0 4 or 8) is usually better. In the summer I recommend these things. 1. Mow the grass taller. The longer blades will shade the ground keeping it from drying out as fast. 2. Water heavily once per week in an area very early in the morning before the sun is going to dry the ground. 3. Slow release fertilizer like Milorganite or e-corganite.

What is the best spring fertilizer for our area here in NWI.

I am not expert enought to say what the best is but i started using a liquid fertilizer from domyown.com and the cost savings are incredible. 2 5 gallons of their product will treat my acre of grass several times for $120. Vs the milorganite or equivalent that is almost $300 per application.

Was there a difference between the 2 fertilized areas and the non-fertilized area?

Yes. I mentioned that at one point and it continued to be true. Thanks for the comment.

I do water the grass but mostly just because the rain is lacking. I try to put down an inch per week if it wont rain that much. Im in NW Indiana. Was in Bolingbrook IL until 2 years ago tho.

Agway and True Value always has Milorganite. Not easy to find Ecorganite. Probably not as much margin in it for the stores or something...

I believe E-corganite is Menards brand so you'd only find it in those stores in the midwest. Thanks for the comment
