Goa Customs harass Goans returning home, demanding duty on personal, old ornaments worn by passenger

- Customs authorities accuse Goans of smuggling and demand payment of import duties on personal ornaments which were actually taken out from Goa in the first place. Matter to be tabled in the Goa assembly.

This is very true. All the customs and immigration officials manning the Goa airports must be Goans of Goan origin.

YES very true, even we as family experienced the same. Coming from Kuwait holding Indian passports,,for one plain old gold chain the custom officer asked me for invoice and also questioned me where I was working, as what, since when, company name, when i came last time, what are the things you brought etc it was really too much 😭
Yes that's true, even they asked me for proof that it's my old gold, I felt so harassed in my own state of Goa.

Same happened with me. They did lot of enquiry. My police frnd told me its routine work and suggested me to folow a pdf book name baggage rules 2016. They follow this only. I was shocked that they were right. We cant bring more than 2 ltr liquor 😮 also gold more than 50k is allowed after a year. Such strict rules should be change. Govt should allow more liquor and gold limit 😢😢

There is a limit to bring in gold as per Govt rules. Why don’t they declare when you are traveling out. Liquor bottles are out of question, only 2 bottles are allowed
One chain 2 rings one bracelet is a standard of the most of our goans it's not necessary to declare this

When you are leaving Goa u need to declare gold on your body to custom and note down on passport or take receipt from custom so that on return u don't have problem... this is a immigration rule @@franciscodias3948

Yes one gujju customer was harassing me I didn't keep quite I told him this is what I was wearing a yr. Back while going to Qatar I m carrying the same back der is nothing extra these people are too much
Yes . True . This has been going on for a long time and too. Even on student visa they asked for the wrist watch can you imagine? So greedy staff. Strict vigilance should be maintained against such staff.

Why don't you declare at the time of leaving Goa
Customs should be advising passengers wearing jewellery at departure to make the required declaration. It should go both ways.
I tried to contact customs at their departure office,before immigration but no one was to be found there,and had to leave without declaring my jewellery 😢
They do nothing. I once tried to declare that I was going for a wedding of my niece and wanted the gold to be declared. However the customs officer ignored me and asked to just take it..
The rules should be same ... For all...

I was detained for 40 minutes as I had carried fake gold bracelets. I told them it was fake but they didn't listen. There was no one available there to confirm that it was fake. They kept my passport.
After a lot of hassles I was allowed to leave.
Any married woman if they wearing mangalsutra for any jewellery by the time the going holiday for any international when they going from Goa there is no problem when you coming back any international you have problem Goa airport every time there is
When we are going from Goa for international they never stop that time when they wearing for the mangalsutra even the bearing some chains for necklace for anything you know any humans are wearing but this is not way when they going there no stop when they coming back they will ask why you wearing for this mangalsutra show me the bills it's happened me also is totally ridiculous

Laws of the land are same whether goan or nongoan, travelling with gold from goa, get it declared and written/enterred on passport at airport customs office. importing gold beyond 20 gms for men and 40 gms for women- have to pay cutoms duty for excesses. have written it once on passport in mumbai, and imported ornaments once in goa slightly more than the limit- faced no issue in Goa.
Gold , when you leave you need to declare at customs and carry a clearance , you travel with this procedure done no one in customs will harass you . This is not the case in Goa only but world wide . If customs let loose of this procedure can you imagine how much gold smuggling would take place just on the pretext to believe one’s word that the gold is just returning gold ?
Yes you are right. But this is not the case. My son a student returning from U.S.A was also harrassed only for wrist watch ⌚. Bcoz an expensive one, they thought they could extract money from him. He told them he will only after calling his mother. Then they let him free. Last years experience.

If its value more than 50000. U need to declare it and pay 40% customs tax.
At depature you will not find custom officer, nor any one dare to write on the passport.
As far as I know we need to get one export certificate. They cannot write on passport. No one can write on a passport.

Old gold needs to be declared while departing from India. One can bring gold worth 50000 after a year. Rules are strict. I paid customs duty and got a recipt for same. I did not find anything wrong while landing at Dabolim
