I've watched this like six times now and I'm still not over how accurate the "entertainment courtesy of the kids" portion is. No joke, that is my childhood, with the cry and everything.
Mr. Bustos: I would just like to say that we thank you for making these videos. Your Filipino tutorial videos became a bonding tool for me and my girls who were born in the United States as half Pinays and half Kanas as u call it. I make an effort to instill our Filipino tradition and culture on my kids, they seem to be interested of understanding it in their own little way but cannot quite process it. Watching your videos, so realistic, fascinating and very entertaining, they see the Philippine ways and culture as clear, as real as if they actually live it. They can relate to most of your funny childhood experiences like these ones in this video. I remember pushing them to sing Christmas songs with actions with no rhyme and reasons in front of people. Your little things like beautiful eyes, silly close open and close baby play which my Grandma played with me when I was young. It may be just videos as entertainment for most of your subscribers but in our family, your videos became a tool for my girls to fully understand and embrace a part of who they are. That my culture, my tradition is as significant as their father's. They may not see or visit my birth country yet but it is a great deal to be a part of not just one but two cultures. That, is a very special thing to treasure. Again, Thank you, Sir and hope you inspire more and more people with your talent and dedication as a Filipino. Mabuhay! I give 5 Stars on your Language Video Post.
'I don't know why you're so shy!' BWAHAHAAHHA so true The ironic part of it is, I now expect and push my little one to also sing in front of relatives - circle of life - hahahaha!
Mikey is so full of love, creativity, and humor--and the boy got some lungs. Thank you for celebrating and illuminating this culture which deserves so much more dignity and attention.
Just finished my 3rd christmas in the PI's. Luckily I do not live close enough to a church to hear the bells, and none of the Filipinos I know go to church very often. So I missed a lot of that (did not actually miss it at all ha ha). But all 4 'ber months' are definitely christmas. For four months they prepare for it... then on christmas day we go to the mall and it is just a regular shopping day? Welcome to the Philippines :)
I can't stop laughing about the "entertainment courtesy of the kids." One time i had to recite a freakin' poem 'coz i wasn't talented enough to sing or dance but had to show something in front of the adults. one of the MOST EMBARRASING MOMENT of my life. Hay nako.. what was i thinking? I should've dance ocho.ocho Pero miss ko na sa pinas :'(
I loved this so much!! Not too many on TH-cam make me laugh out loud, but you sure do. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember that people in the Philippines open a gift when it's first given, so they can thank the giver, but then they re-wrap it and put it under the tree till Christmas. As an American kid I found that shocking. =) But how well I remember those wonderful gold and silver tinsel trees for sale on the roadside, sparkling in the sunshine to the point of dazzling your eyes...and the Christmas songs in stores in September...yes, for sure. I loved the multicolored stars, and the cute little carolers coming to the door ("Maligayang Pasko, Maligayang Pasko! Give me money, I go... No money, no go.") No, I'm sure they didn't sing that, that was just a joke that went around! **sigh** I had a wonderful childhood in the Philippines (in the 1970s).
u cant feel the christmas spirit here in canada, it sux below the belt and their christmas feels like ordinary day... nothing exciting unlike philippines ... that is so true mikey.... in philippines we begin to celebrate christmas on september lololol ..fireworks everywhere and kids go carolling =3
it's a good thing too because the Philippines isn't really... hypnotized yet by that Santa shit. I mean, Santa doesn't really have anything to do with Christmas. Sure, there's Saint Nick's "Giving is better than recieving" spirit, but a LOT of people forget that Christmas is day that we celebrate Jesus' birth. Not because "Santa claus is coming to town"
Omg!! Mikey!!! Hahaha!!! You are hilarious! Ang sakit na ng Tyan ko sa katatawa!!! I have to go to work....good start for my day....thank you so much for sharing.... keep it up Mikey!
That's one of my favorite part too! hahha...missed the good old days. Christmas comes with a program where kids were expected to show off their talents to grandparents and relatives. You know, kids have to entertain their grandparents especially during their twilight years... sobrang nakakarelate ako...love all of your videos M.B.
actually used this vid in cle class when talking about their Christmas traditions, aka "how do we celebrate the holidays?" Students were so like 'duh' about traditions. Hala! so I told them, 'here's a vid to remind you, from someone who's not from around here!' they loved it! salamat Mikey!
so true! i was surprised when i went to duty in the hospital on september 1 and they already got a huge christmas tree all set up and all the other christmas decors were put up and christmas music started playing everywhere! i love the filipino christmas spirit :D
Experienced the same thing when I was being forced to sing to entertain relatives that were visiting. I literally cried like how Mikey Bustos portrayed it every signle time. Lol!
On the 12th day of christmas my mahal gave to me... 12 dewendes dancing... 11 sabong fighting... 10 titos drinking... 9 ninangs laughing... 8 lolas blessing... 7 ate's praying... 6 kuya's chugging... 5 redhorse driiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiink... 4 balut eggs... 3 parols... 2 carabaos... and a beki in a jeepneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEy!... Kalurks ka Mikey!!! idol!
Now that i'm out of the country again i really miss the Filipino Xmas spirits. Here in the US we just decorated the house for xmas 2 weeks ago. =( Unlike in the philippines.. we start decorating xmas tree on the day of SeptemBER.
3:57 was totally me when it came to the piano. First thing my European wife noticed at my family parties is how it always became a talent show. Also the plastic on the star…yeah, she found my iPod from 2006, and it still has the plastic covering on it. Why? No better reason than yours; "Cuz I'm Filipino!" Thanks for explaining us!
The first part was so true.......we set up our christmas tree around the end of October, buy our christmas gifts around first or second week of November, wrap them on the third or fourth week and go grocery shopping on the first week of December and ta-dah! We're ready
simbang gabi actually starts on the dawn of the 16th mikey. 15th is anticipated. a hardcore pinoy would take the morning mass over the evening mass coz it's harder to wake up early than to stay up late.
MIKEY BUSTOS= taong sumikat sa panggagago ng pananalita ng Pilipino “Sumikat din siya sa dami ng views, pero di nya naisip na lalo nya nilugmok ang Pilipinas para sa pansariling kapakanan nya”
Don't forget the caroling, new years eve and three kings. By the way galing galing naman he he he thanks. Even my friend from Taiwan na nag tour sa pinas and Indian also who was live in pinas( kung atin ay tawag natin ay bumbay) here in Toronto. They said the best parin ang pinas mag celebrate ng Christmas di nila pag papalit which is ibang lahi nayon
I celebrated last Christmas in the Philippines and I also had to struggle through the singing... my family forced me and my little cousins to do it. It was humiliating! Lol. Didn't realize it was typical Filipino until I saw this video.
you've outdone yourself this time. hilarious. i love everything and it's all true! good job, mikey! wish your first Christmas in the Philippines is everything you expect and more...
"Who needs Santa Claus when you can be Filipino and have lots of gifts anyway. Even if you're bad that year. Hihihi!!" >:DD IBA TALAGA ANG PASKO SA PINAS!!! WHOOHOO~
"if you're family's like mine, you just hang your lights up all year round and plug it in every December" as for our case... we just hang the decors all year round.. so that it'll feel like Christmas all year!! :P
I've watched this like six times now and I'm still not over how accurate the "entertainment courtesy of the kids" portion is. No joke, that is my childhood, with the cry and everything.
Didn't we all? LOL Didn't we all... :(
I hide in the bathroom when they say that i'm going to dance :(
lol in my case, i always loved performing during christmas hahaha but yeah, this is so accurate! thanks Mikey!
They still make me sing and Im already 16 so most of the time i pretend to be watching over my nephew or cousin just so they wont bother me :p
This is exactly me every Christmas
