  • Mount Baden-Powell is a 9,400-foot peak in the San Gabriel Mountains. This trail is located at Vincent Gap, which is west of Wrightwood and it has 40 switchbacks with almost 3,000 feet of elevation gain. It's a great training hike as it is easy to follow and has a good amount of elevation. Also, there is a lot of boy scout history here, with a monument at the top to the creator of the Boy Scouts, Robert Baden-Powell. Read more about this hike and others at CaliforniaThroughMyLens.com.

I did it when I was much younger on a New Years Eve. As we watched the sun set, a glider cruised back and forth along the ridge, and turning directly over our heads. We could hear the air whistling over the wings as it turned. Snow on the trail that day. It was difficult, but I'll never forget it. The friend I did it with has since passed on. I'll have to go back to honor him.

40 switchbacks and 3000 feet in elevation... my legs might be able to do it, but my poor lungs... inhaler would have to be in my pocket - ha ha!! Gorgeous views! Thanks for showing us this one (because this is not on my list)! :)

I know youve been to San Jacinto Peak. You need to do Tahquitz Peak via Devils Slide Trail. Awesome spot, jagged Tahquitz Peak is very Kings Sequoia ish. Very easy trail and probably one of the best in all of southern california in my opinion.

Baden Powell is a lot harder, it is about 4 times more elevation gain then Big Horn Mine
