One of the problems with these cards is that people will receive it, put it into their device and when it shows to have the formatted 256 G will immediately go online and put up a good review. It might be months before they actually write over the 16 G level but still not know because they haven't tried to access any of the overwritten files yet.
Lol! I am a Mac user but when it comes to SD cards I also like a bargain:) So recently I did buy a very cheap 1TB fake Huawei micro sd card from eBay. Initially, I just wanted to store a few videos, not more than 30GB. I wrote about 25GB of data onto the card and all seemed well. However, when I removed the card from the computer and put it back again I was noticing that only about 18GB had been written onto the card. I kept trying and at one point I thought that my Mac was overpriced junk and not doing its job. I then decided to do more research on the problem and it dawned on me that the card was fake. I never thought that people could do this but hey, you learn something new everyday and thanks for spreading the message. Oh by the way in the past I also bought three 2.1TB usb thumb drives from Ebay for a pittance and all three never worked. I am now thinking of trading in my mac and use some of the money to buy a genuine memory card. Oh my poor Mac!
Excellent video! This is a problem I've noticed a lot of people complaining about, even for Sandisk microSDs sold through Amazon, so I'm glad you guys made a video giving an in depth look into things.
The best advice for anyone is: never buy from a 3rd part Amazon seller. The only exception I personally make is for used media (games, movies, books) that are less than $10 and from sellers that are legit businesses that have been around for 5+ years.
What is messed up is that I heard that in the Amazon warehouses, legit products get mixed in with fakes. For example if you are buying from Amazon and fulfilled and shipped by Amazon you could still get fakes. What happens is the fake 3rd party seller's products are sent to the Amazon warehouses. Next to the product online, you will see 3rd party seller, but shipped and fulfilled by Amazon. That may make you trust buying the product. Their products have the same UPC product code number as the sold and fulfilled by Amazon ones and all of them get put in the same bins and are mixed in together waiting to be shipped out. I once ordered a "genuine" Belkin car charger for my cell phone on Amazon which turned out to be a fake. It blew the fuse in my car's dashboard and it cost me $250 to have the mechanic remove my dash to put in a new fuse. This is why I do not buy any chargers, sd cards, make-up, vitamins, electronics, etc, from Amazon anymore. Amazon is turning into Alibaba.
I bought a fake 500 gb memory card from Amazon about 2 years ago !!!! I used my PC and it read the card and said it was 16 gb and the extra memory was corrupted. I formatted the micro sd card and it was still corrupted and was a 16 gb card. So Amazon has been selling fake cards for ages. I sent it back and got a refund. They immediately refunded me when I told them it was fake !!!!!!
NAME THAT CARD! How are you helping anyone stay away from fakes when Amazon sells real and fakes... UNLESS you provide the name? What are you afraid of ~ being sued by a fraud?
@Minecraft Tutorial King: That's wrong because the quality of silica makes a huge difference because 128GB is a UHD which means that it is made to be a hard drive for a computer not removable. If you inferior UHD in Android or Windows you can cause a lot of damage.
Just a thought, Micro Center online have great 32GB micro SD cards made by them exclusively printed on card. I used 3 cards on my vacation in 2013. Did a test today by copying a 30GB file on to the card, no problems. Works on my 2014 Mac today.
🤔1tb sd card??? Well... I just got scammed too. Went to the bin store I've seen 3 1tb sd cards😱. I bought all three. I used my USB sd card reader and hook it up to my computer and........ nothing. 2 sd cards are not recognized. But the 1 reads and it says 120mb available. Exact same sd card you guys got but my is 1tb. I'm so glad I seen this video. Not everything says what it says. YOU'VE JUST GOT SCAMMED. That's me😯😀🤬🤔😱😤🗑🔥 A very helpful video. Thank you👍👍
The problem is that buyers do a simple test, put it in their cell phone and then leave good feedback for seller. It may take weeks or months before they notice that some or many photos are missing. Photos like baby's first steps. dash cam video missing after an accident.etc, In the meantime, others see the good feedback and buy more. Ponzi scheme.
I'm seeing 1 TB Micro SD cards on Amazon for $26 with 2 star reviews and Samsung 512 GB cards for $95 with 4 1/2 star reviews. Wonder which one is fake?
You know what’s funny, us Maserati drivers are constantly being asked why we didn’t buy a Toyota or a Mazda. Some people just don’t get it. Most of my devices are Apple and my only regret is that I wasted eight minutes into this video when the Mac comment was made.
It’s why I decided to bite the bullet and buy my sd cards directly from Sony. Therefore, I know they should be genuine. Painful to pocket book but didn’t want to deal with Amazon scams.
I'm glad I saw this before buying my sd card. I instead went directly to the manufacturer's website and ordered it directly from them. Paid a little more (but not much more). I ordered an adapter and reader from them too just to be safe. Wish me luck.
I tried this on Kali linux... and instead of checking the actual size of my flash drive... I just downloaded all of my neighbors data. I don't know what I did wrong.
I've been looking online to buy a microSD card, preferable 256GB. The crazy thing is, there are so many sellers even on sites like Lazada and Shopee that sell them very cheaply, like $10 for 256GB!! Right there and then we have red flags. And then they have Samsung, SanDisk, Kingston and even.. Huawei! Take your pick! And here's the sad part: the folks who purchased them posted reviews swearing that they're authentic even if the font used for '256GB' on a Kingston packaging is obviously fake (many folks posted photos)! If you look further though, there are also many reviews saying their files got corrupted but recovered, they only got 8GB usable, etc., obvious signs that they're fake, and yet no one even mentioned that they thought they were fake!! Either the seller removes reviews that say they're fake or people are just stupid or in denial that they got swindled!! Be careful guys, if it's too cheap you know there's something fishy, even if the seller absolutely guarantees their authenticity.
learned this the hard way. Bought 64 gb SD card for Samsung phone. It started corrupting pictures at 32 gb. Corrupted photos were trips with our family so needless to say my wife wasn't happy about this. This is one area to make 100% sure your getting legit SD card. Make sure your leaving negative feedback on amazon and ebay because this is big problem.
Oops. You didn't really buy an Amazon store item at all, you bought an SD card from a third party seller called 'liqiren', upon which the middleman Amazon do little but pack and send it for them using those awful Amazon boxes :P Next time, click on where it says '7 new from xx dollars' or similar (in the right hand corner) to see a list of all sellers, select 'new', and look for the seller who is listed as Amazon. Even 'fulfilled by Amazon' are still third party sellers, even if they suggest a more trusted one. If there is no shop selling directly from Amazon, look for another similar item, as you are taking a big risk given a fair percentage of SDs out there are probably fake. You have to make sure you know where you are getting it from, but generic SD cards (without a good brand name such as Kingston or Sandisk) aren't really worth chancing any data on. Fake cards sold officially by Amazon as the seller should be less common, and when found out should be faster to get refunds or replacements on. I would only buy an item where Amazon is the name of the seller or a high street store. I might chance a 'fulfilled by Amazon' seller since I can still check the card anyway with h2testw or a similar tool. With more important storage such as a hdd, I'd only ever buy from a website with a high reputation that deals specifically in computer products (not Amazon)
Was about to buy a samsung evo plus 128gb on amazon. Had the prime label assuming it was from amazon themselves. Found that it was 3rd party fullfilled by amazon. Checked seller, they had no address just a VAT number. Checked the number, the company wasn't registered. There could be legit reasons that they weren't registered but I thought im not gonna take the risk. Not worth the faff.
What's the purpose of having a co-host? Just to say "hmm, yes, right". It's a waste of resource having 2 people to do the work of 1 person, and annoying as well.
I bought two Seagate 12TB IronWolf PROs. I was shipped two fake ones. These were bought from Amazon.com Services, Inc and were labeled as new. One has a fake label of a 10TB WD Red drive on it. The label is blurry and the printer must have been running out of ink. The other has a fake 12TB IronWolf label on it. Whoever printed it stretched the aspect ratio out horizontally to fit the drive. Just by looking at the shape of the drive you can tell it was the wrong one. Almost $1,000 of fake crap.
Thanks Vaughan. Glad you enjoyed the video. It's as much a PSA as anything - we really want to protect the poor viewers who fall for such scams. At least having bought ours on Amazon, we will have no trouble returning it and getting our money back. Ebay and other sites would be more challenging. There's no getting data back though, so it's best to run this test (or similar) before using a new card that you're not 100% sure of.
I will look for this memory card on Amazon tomorrow and if I can find out where this seller resides, as long as they aren't in the US I will be taking tactical action against this scammer. Technically if you release the address and information of somebody in a foreign country, you can't get in any legal trouble. I heard isis wants someone else to mess with, Chinese scammers would be the perfect targets for isis.
Oh, I'd hope a wedding videographer would know better. This, however, was the case of a relative of the bride who offered to help out, with a very sad result.
Amazing, Thank you very much for this video. This happened to mebut i recovered my money but I still got memory card. Lets says, my memory card shows 256 and after doind test it shows 16gb. is there anyway to change the value so it can show correct value in the future? Thanks an advance
You would have to use a command to change the actual size of the announced size so the pc can use it without nuking data But idk if windows can do it, linux can with commands
I have had two fake 128gb cards in as many weeks from Ebay (different suppliers) only had a refund for one of them so far, still waiting to hear from the other supplier, and i'm desperate for a larger capacity card!! I'm too scared to order another one, as I can't afford to keep throwing money at fraudsters, even from Amazon it would seem now! Please can you suggest anywhere where I can be guanteed an actual genuine card?
CUSTOMERS: You can save yourself a lot of time. SDHC can't hold SDXC capacity. Max 32GB. The format must be X-Fat NTFS or some Linux format, for SDXC. Scams are getting clever so the only test is the SUSTAINED WRITE SPEED a few times. You can x-fat format SDHC but that is not a good idea. So if you look on AMAZON and they sell 64GB SDHCs then that a flat fake - end of!
This video was to long for the point. Almost like I was scammed, like the fake wedding photos. Believe me if someone lost wedding photos they would be alot more upset then little jokes
The first and probably mkst obvious RED FLAG is that it said SDHC and not SDXC. SDHC is High Capacity and only tops out at 32GB. SDXC is Extended Capacity and is above 32GB.
ebay sold them too. Its the fault of amazon and ebay for not vetting or stopping known fraudulent sales. The fake card is a 2 to 4 gig card reprogrammed ot read 256 gig. It will record up to the 2 to 4 gig but then overwrites the original file size. Windows users use the program h2testw1.4.exe. its a german program that will write a file on the card then read back the file to test for overwriting.
i had the worst experience from a fake sd card. purchased a 64GB one last year from ebay for my dash camera, had horrible car accident Feb this year,i survived from the accident but the 3rd party denied everything, the only solid evidences to support me should be all the videos on the sd car but only until recently, i was told that sd card more like to be a fake one. purchased 2nd one 2 weeks ago from another seller on ebay, just received it, i learned the lesson, just tested it, more likely is another fake one, i'm hoping i'll get my refund this time
I don't buy no name SD cards and sometimes what's too good to be true usually isn't. A low level format will usually show the actual capacity of the card
I totally agree! Same thing with these back up batteries that are all over Amazon. I will only buy one brand and one brand only! Anker! Same with SD cards! SanDisk is the only legitimate and the best memory card maker! Transcend? POS! PNY? Garbage! Kingston? Crap! No name products? Fraudulent scam! In fact, I deliberately go through Amazon once in awhile and report each and every seller of these no name products as being fraudulent scammers. I hate scammers worse than Ramzi Yousef hated the twin towers in New York City. That's not an exaggeration whatsoever.
If I need to know the device designation for a USB I'm about to attach, I'l do 'dmesg -w' in a terminal, plug in the device, and then watch the output. Thanks for demonstrating this. I'm installing f3 new as we speak. Very useful to know how to do this test. By the way, your multiple audio sources aren't timed. When you switch sources between the live camera and the captured desktop video, there is a doubled audio glitch which implies that the audio coming in with the live camera is slightly behind the other source in sync.
I bought a Super DUODUO, 512gb microsd card, and I transferred all my videos and pictures to it and my phone completely acted out of wack for the first 2 days and all my stuff was deleted
So... guys.. have an idea. If a BUNCH of us, start buying cards we know are fake, proving they're faked within return period, threaten to sue if we don't get our money back without shipping back the fake item (just remind them it is a felony to ask you to knowingly mail any counterfeit good, and you can't be help liable for that), and then we can just fix it, and resell it for cheap on a different account? and basically just... like put them out of business by making a profit on fake cards that we resold as unfaked? lol am I speaking anyone's language? I feel like we could make a bunch of money at this... AND shut out the illegal counterfeiters by way of excessive refunds that make it not cost effective for them to mail out the fakes at such low prices... which raises their prices, which might lower genuine prices I think...
Is that thcase in the UK, 'illegal to post fake goods", if so it is quite clever, ebay would have to return money if the seller did not, and the fake goods cannot be returned by law. Could test it with a single card, then buy the lot LOL
EVERYONE THAT BUYS SOMETHING FAKE FROM E-Bay or Amazon should name the product & the Seller. Amazon and E-Bay are 3rd parties to products and Unless the Seller's Names and the Product's Name is given, the comment is useless at best. Why are you afraid of listing a fraud Seller or Product?
Amazon doesn’t just sell fake unbelievably cheap no-name cards. I bought a good quality Lexar 128GB card directly from Amazon, for a decent but not crazy price, that I’ve bought before and the one I got had a slightly different font and paint job on the actual card and packaging was slightly off. Just speed testing the card it was like 20MB/s compared to 150MB/s of my other ones. You don’t need Linux at all to test, I always burn in new cards with a quick speed test, usually fakes won’t be very fast to begin with and give you the first clue. Then I dump files on it up to the stated capacity to confirm. Even if it’s a real card it’s always a good idea to just test the card can actually be loaded up to capacity....
Lazada in Thailand sold me two fake Samsung cards. I paid a lot more than ten dollars. Ok should be able to get a refund but they don't seem to be concerned about stopping these people. They blocked my negative review. So more people are going to be cheated. It was a Samsung 128 gb Evo card
a few years ago i bought a 64GB sd card to increase storage on my phone. i shifted any apps that would move to it. after a few months i noticed there was occasionally a message that the card had a problem. restarting the phone would fix the problem. then one day i found my phone totally dead and couldn't get it to power up even on the charger. after removing the sd card it worked again. the battery had been totally drained. when i stuck it into my pc card reader it instantly blue screened. 64GB at the time was quite a high capacity and the highest my phone would support. i suspect this was a relabelled 4GB but since it was completely dead there was no way to run any tests on it. fortunately all i really lost was what i'd caught on pokemon go (which was all the rage at the time) i now have my phone automatically back up photos to google. i would never trust sd cards again
Of course is a scam sdhd is 32gb-64gb from then on is sdxc FIRST INFORM yourself about the technology and the company you are buying for ex SDASSOCIATION
I've bought 6 SanDisk Ultra MicroSD cards from Amazon UK, 64gb 128gb Cards every one of them has got corrupt I've lost all my precious data really P- Off with Amazon UK, Amazon does nothing to stop this big scam 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎
6:06 Only the hub is USB3, it's a USB2 reader soldered to it (just ground, +5V and 2 data wires between them). I bought it too and felt scammed as it wasn't what I thought it would be. I probably could not have reported it as nowhere did it actually say whether the reader was 2 or 3... So, yeah, expect USB2 speeds, and only USB2 speeds.
If a legit one, the package paper material is not easily torn by hand and also the inner package should be in a small hard plastic container/box not like a soft plastic made material type shown in this video. Thanks for the tips anyway. Appreciate it.
This is no big deal i was ripped off by shopee a couple months ago. 512gb p500. I am new here i just thought it was cheap but you get what you pay for.
As mentioned, there are similar tools available for Windows, but they take forever. Best instead to use Linux which is incredibly fast at this, as you see. You could install Linux and run the test in less time than the test would take on Windows. But yeah... you could do that... but it's not our recommendation. Linux FTW... Once again :)
Be aware of positive complements addressing something else. For example they will this knife set is awesome yet it isn't a knife you're purchasing. I have seen this multiple times. They will also say awesome or great with no explanation of what they are talking about.
Chinese own Amazon and many popular US and European Websites that sells electronics . some good reviews on products are faked . if you see unusual cheap brand of Sd card above 64 gb , rated by 10 customers , each one giving 5/5 stars , don't buy it
We will in future, thanks. But in the meantime, if you have any trouble making anything out, please review the description which has all the steps typed out.
WOW. GREAT JOB, I HAVE 5 IN THE PACKAGE TO SEND BACK, JUST BY INSPICTING THE PACKAGE, I KNOW WHAT TO LOOK FOR, THANKS, SORRY FOR THE CAP LOCK, I AM IN THE PROCES OF FIXING MY PC.
I had this problem by the way and it's not funny I got actual SD cards that say SanDisk on them and they're actually not saying this they're fake and Amazon knows they're fake because the reviews show their fake and Amazon delete and hides reviews that show that these things are fake and exposed at their face I have four cards already I went through today that I found out for fake and no reason why I found out the fake and how is because I was trying to put them in my Nintendo switch for a bigger storage and to switch kept saying that the SD cards were corrupted and there was no space on them for all my games not any of them they were fake.
I found this very informative but had to keep stopping and backing up the video to see what you had entered. Why not just leave the video on the laptop.
got 1 yesterday from amazon supposed to be 512 gig thy was only 180 gig on the card fail ran a program that of the internet to test the drive .I would advise everyone to do the same. if it to good to be true test it .also scan all programs that you download for bugs be safe .but amazon refunded me instantly so thy must no about the problem why dont thy test there stock before shipping
This is like the one time I watched a 19 minute video but only got 2 minutes of actual content.
Haha this woman there it's for misunderstanding
Usually its less than 2 minutes of info. This one is out of ordinary
18 minutes to show a prove a 1 minute screen 'n explaining? damn we thirsty for ads money...
exactly!!
That's why i'm using adblock so i won't get any advs ;)
Ad in the front and then at the end; I wouldn't exactly call that 'thirty for ads money'.

Future's Past $250 to change a fuse?? I think you got scammed, fuses don’t require taking the dash off, it takes 10 seconds...
well you just have to hire a fake lawyer from amazon.ca and you good to go.

agreed this is major problem and only way to buy now is at brick n mortar stores or buy only from trusted companies on amazon.
$10 = 5 cups of coffee?! That's like 2 cups in NYC ☕😅
Amazon marketplace is no better than Ebay these days, it even costs more than Ebay!
It's really insane they even sell fake USB sticks now too
13:18 I have never ever seen someone this exited, only to find out that they have indeed purchased with their hard earned money A FAKE SD CARD 🤣
“You get what you pay for” ~ unknown Chinese proverb
Make sure the price on Amazon matches the price on the manufacturer's website!
Amazon accepts returns anyway

Spiral modding , pointless many fake reviews too

I’m more concerned a wedding videographer grabbed a $10 card and filmed an entire wedding on it
Oh, I'd hope a wedding videographer would know better. This, however, was the case of a relative of the bride who offered to help out, with a very sad result.
Actually, I learned a lot of new things about these types of products and different ways of testing!!
Amazing, Thank you very much for this video. This happened to mebut i recovered my money but I still got memory card. Lets says, my memory card shows 256 and after doind test it shows 16gb. is there anyway to change the value so it can show correct value in the future?
Thanks an advance
You would have to use a command to change the actual size of the announced size so the pc can use it without nuking data
But idk if windows can do it, linux can with commands
Most people will not return the item for $10. But we all should leave a review.
Use common sense. If something seems too good to be true, it probably is.
The problem is that sometimes you pay a regular or sale type price and still get cheated.
This video was to long for the point. Almost like I was scammed, like the fake wedding photos. Believe me if someone lost wedding photos they would be alot more upset then little jokes
I've found the best channel ever. Thank you!!!
That is very kind, Adad - thank you. Glad you enjoyed the video!
The first and probably mkst obvious RED FLAG is that it said SDHC and not SDXC. SDHC is High Capacity and only tops out at 32GB. SDXC is Extended Capacity and is above 32GB.
I'm running Linux Mint 19.1 can I ran to my Terminal to install "f3" and I'm ready to accept a FAKE USB DRIVE.
How good are Super duoduo micro mini SD cards they are on Amazon 512GB for 17.99
ebay sold them too.
Moral of the story: Never buy retail.
i had the worst experience from a fake sd card. purchased a 64GB one last year from ebay for my dash camera, had horrible car accident Feb this year,i survived from the accident but the 3rd party denied everything, the only solid evidences to support me should be all the videos on the sd car but only until recently, i was told that sd card more like to be a fake one. purchased 2nd one 2 weeks ago from another seller on ebay, just received it, i learned the lesson, just tested it, more likely is another fake one, i'm hoping i'll get my refund this time
Aw, it took you 7 minutes to pan Mac users; you must be failing.
i wish amazon can see this video
I got a PNY 256 gb card for $40, on Best Buy. I trust them better than Amazon.
The largest SDHC card is 32GB. All cards above 32GB is SDXC cards. All alarms should sound. Dont waste 1 minute, and not 19 minutes on that question.
That's why I never buy Micro SD cards from eBay
That woman's as bored stiff as i am.
a few years ago i bought a 64GB sd card to increase storage on my phone. i shifted any apps that would move to it. after a few months i noticed there was occasionally a message that the card had a problem. restarting the phone would fix the problem. then one day i found my phone totally dead and couldn't get it to power up even on the charger. after removing the sd card it worked again. the battery had been totally drained. when i stuck it into my pc card reader it instantly blue screened.
I loved when they shit on mac and used f3... that was developed for macOS lmao
LOVE the Dalek behind you !!! Why the down votes ?
That huge haymaker to mac users xDD
If you use a Mac, you must be on crack. Lol that's my saying.
Thank you so much for the information it happen to me a lot.
Plugged in your micro SD, in stereo. XD
The website leads to softpedia which have had issues before..... Got any alternatives?
how does anyone make money selling at this price.at a hundred bucks i can understand, but at ten bucks?
Is Super DuoDuo 512GB legit? I found one on Amazon for about $21.00
Amazon will fall unless it does quality control and stops pedaling plastic crap
This is no big deal i was ripped off by shopee a couple months ago. 512gb p500. I am new here i just thought it was cheap but you get what you pay for.
Can one get to do these code test on windows power shell terminal or CMD? I would love to have the code. Thanks
They are most likely just 16GB SD cards which have just been relabeled. I wonder why comment caused a buffering glitch
Be aware of positive complements addressing something else. For example they will this knife set is awesome yet it isn't a knife you're purchasing. I have seen this multiple times. They will also say awesome or great with no explanation of what they are talking about.
Chinese own Amazon and many popular US and European Websites that sells electronics . some good reviews on products are faked . if you see unusual cheap brand of Sd card above 64 gb , rated by 10 customers , each one giving 5/5 stars , don't buy it
Yeah, well, send it back for a refund.
Whoa they go inside your porch to give you your mail?
That's why I blacklisted Amazon over 5 years ago
Wonder if Amazon would settle out of court for 5k?
What ever..... hope this won't be recommended again.
i like to use Fakespot.com to check legit reviews because Amazon tends to blot there reviews with bots.
I orders a 400gb one and they sent me a 256gb instead and the 256gb ha only 1gb of memory
You could go into settings and change the font size to something much larger...
I had this problem by the way and it's not funny I got actual SD cards that say SanDisk on them and they're actually not saying this they're fake and Amazon knows they're fake because the reviews show their fake and Amazon delete and hides reviews that show that these things are fake and exposed at their face I have four cards already I went through today that I found out for fake and no reason why I found out the fake and how is because I was trying to put them in my Nintendo switch for a bigger storage and to switch kept saying that the SD cards were corrupted and there was no space on them for all my games not any of them they were fake.
command and conquer kanes wrath
You should make a video on how they even did that. I'm curious
They still sell it for 10 bucks
I found this very informative but had to keep stopping and backing up the video to see what you had entered. Why not just leave the video on the laptop.
You can do this with Windows just as fast. If you knew how.
Someone claiming Amazon is trusty. I find that unlikely. XD
Then you need to report this to AMAZON..!
I feel you man, i'll expwrience it and the seller refund my money today!. Just ready other comments and 5 star before you buy it!... 👍👍
Hey sasha and guy H2testW Nuff said a software for windows that tests your microSD or flash device actual rather than falsely advertised capacity
got 1 yesterday from amazon supposed to be 512 gig thy was only 180 gig on the card fail ran a program that of the internet to test the drive .I would advise everyone to do the same. if it to good to be true test it .also scan all programs that you download for bugs be safe .but amazon refunded me instantly so thy must no about the problem why dont thy test there stock before shipping
