I've been using this since the OS/2 days (93) when it was StarOffice, written by a 16yo German kid. I am so much more productive than any of the Office users it 's not even funny. Love it but still learned a couple of tips from the Video. Thanks Chris!
Fantastic! In my version, 6.1.4.2, there is no Toolbar Layout but I found the command for the Notebook bar under User Interface -->Groupedbar. It worked the same. Thought it might help someone else. Thank you so much for the video. Also, I was used to using the Format Painter using the keyboard. I was able to set up the same "copy format" shortcut for the "Clone" command in LibreOffice. Now if I could just get a "selection bar" (in the left margin like Word)...
Yeah i've just did the same thing. there is no notebook bar. so i choose grouped bar in user interface. Thx for creator of this video and you for noticing it.

In case anyone is scanning documents directly into Libre Office.... I was watching this video while using Libre Write although I have my paid version of Office 365 because while trying to insert scans directly into the Document, I could not find a direct way of doing it in Word and Microsoft help tells you to scan and save documents and then insert pictures, which is fine when you are scanning a page or two, but when you have to do a lot, it takes a lot longer and creates a lot of unnecessary extra scanned files. In LO Write you can use [Insert|Media|Scan|Select Source] and it will scan directly into your document. But when you activate the experimental features and tabbed icons, that option goes away from the toolbar... The good news is you can still Use it. In Libre Office 7 (the version I'm using), when you select the [Insert] Tab, in the far right of the toll bar there is a drop-down menu that repeats the word [Insert], from the drop down choose [Select Source] and it will let you select your scanner (I only have one) to again send scans directly into your document.

Indeed, it's not Word, you've hit the nail on the head. Just as Nissan is not Mercedes. I've come to prefer LibreOffice and its basic Interface after making the switch from MS Office about two weeks ago. You mean you installed a virtual machine, then installed MS Windows to it and then installed MS Office? I have done most of that, too, but now need a free version of MS Office (not just the free online version that lacks Access). I would like to note, though - that some free versions of Windows 10 seem better than others. Two years ago I installed one on linux in a VM and it was almost as fast as using Windows on bare metal, but I deleted it to make more space. Then I installed another since I need to re-learn it for a pay raise at work. This new free version of Windows 10 is far slower and I am not sure if it is Virtual Box or the Windows version at fault. SO if you get it working right and fast, never delete it and think it will work as well if you reinstall it in a year or two. Nothing is guaranteed.

Thank you for sharing this video that was very interesting and great information. I recently bought a Chromebook as I got fed up with Windows and I have downloaded Libre office and I like it. It is quite good. It is important for me as I am a fictional author.
I use Excel a lot at work, and I'm so happy that LibreOffice Calc (which I use at home) is very different from that! So many crazy bugs and shortcomings in Excel. Yes, LibreOffice has bugs too, but I haven't seen that crazy ones yet. Recently I actually installed LibreOffice on my job computer too, just to get some peace in my heart, but I'm not sure I was allowed to do that. Don't tell anyone… :P Funny though, that my LibreOffice installation at work (in Windows 10) doesn't seem to work as well as the LibreOffice installation on my home desktop computer (in Manjaro Linux). And those ”ribbons” in Excel in which I never find anything I'm looking for, except for those things I use all the time. I have to google everything all the time (or use the built in search thing, which on the other hand isn't a bad idea). Very time consuming.
Have you found any other videos or articles that make using both LibreOffice (at home) and MS Office (at work) less confusing? It's 3 years later now. I'd like to set up (customize) my LibreOffice to be as close as possible to what I will be using (soon) at work...so that my head doesn't explode.
Free (as in beer) does not automatically make something more compelling. I say that because many of the comments I read are about how great LibreOffice is because it doesn't cost them any money. I don't mind paying a developer for exceptional software. I use MS Office all day long at work, so when I come home and need to balance by checkbook in a spreadsheet program, LibreCalc is just not as capable as Excel and, for $7.99 a month, I find MS Office to be a value. If you want free, there is Microsoft 365 online. The open-source nature of LibreOffice is to be applauded, so is the fact that it offers a capable alternative to the proprietary mainstay. But the vilification that MS Office seems to attract in the comments of every LibreOffice review is just nonsense. Choice is good... whether it be a paid, proprietary one or not.
Staroffice (on which openoffice/libreoffice is based) predates msoffice by 5 years. Msoffice looked like staroffice for much longer than the other way around.
No, only the starWriter Word processor prédates the office suite, and It is far from predating Microsoft Word (1983). PowerPoint for example was the first of its kind, so obviously impress came later. And excel has existed since 1985 - before calc
As on april 2020, in version 6.4.3, you don't even need to do all this. Just hit view > uster interface > tabs bum! As for the icons, they are already similar ones this days. I would love an idiot's guide to ICE applications. I briefly read up on ICE, but got intimidated (or lazy). Instead, I just use it in a separate profile in a browser, but I guess I could compartmentalize it more by using a separate user in my OS and/or container tabs (extension) in Firefox. Oh, I also use it on just one older weaker PC so as not to contaminate my better PC.

I was able to do it. Libre is getting better however recently with their new updates. I can see it having every basic feature it should already have in the next few years. I will be happy one we have a complete feature rich open source alternative.
I also have a 2007 office disk :)
@@rtsa4633 Does WPS stand for WordPress Something? If so, it should be qualitative, as an historical high-end competitor to Word, but I doubt WordPress would be free. I guess Softmaker free office is, though.
Is there 2013 Microsoft office icons for Mac for libreoffice
I was able to do it. I can't remember exactly how, but if I remember correctly, you must download what they downloaded in the video, go to:
1) LibreOffice > Preferences > Advanced > Enable experimental features (may be unstable) > Click on Apply
2) Then again, LibreOffice > Preferences > View > Icon style > Office2013 > Click on Apply (this generates the MS2013 theme)
3) If you want the toolbar to be spread out like Microsoft, go to View > User Interface > Tabbed.
Normally, that should do it.
update?
Personally I think this makes libreoffice look ugly. I like the look of libreoffice's layout
agree, I think, LibreOffice developers should polish the icons and tweaks in their own way. It looks kinda old and doesn't catch up with the DE.
you are legends, thanks
Awesome video thanks!
Love it but the label feature is soooo horrible. Why do I have to go thru a whole extra step of creating a database first. Should just be part of the steps when creating a label. It's rediculous.
One question though why
well price and on linux u can't get Microsoft office. this video definitely secured me on going full blown linux now

LibreOffice 6.4.4.2 has spell-checker built-in, no need to download.
brilliant
Leebray?...
'Leebray' = Spanish, 'Leebruh' = French. Both are correct. We tend to use the Spanish pronunciation. Funny, since we're Canadian :)
He is very informed and she isn't.
True
banging my head against the wall with their jabbering.... just get to the point... for god's sake!
Would have been a good video if a) there were one presenter and b) if you were not trying to be funny. Big miss!
what is free never works
bs. Many people use free software for video editing and do just fine with it. Same for writing books or editing photos.
Microsoft wants us to pay a yearly fee to run Microsoft Office. No Thanks.
You can pay for it by the month as well 🙄
the New World Order's new plan is to have us all lease/rent and not own. Leasing makes far more profit for the company and also gives the company more control over how that product can be used - or is likely to be used lest you pay a huge sum when you try to turn in the product or upgrade. Microsoft is one of the leading members of the NWO.
First!
Who wants ANYTHING to be like anything Mikkysoft???? HAH!
