My mom and I have been taking apart sweaters for a couple years now! My only tip is that instead of snipping those seams, find that tail end, it's basically a crochet chain, undo the tail, and pull it. You'll get a little yarn scrap and save yourself from a million little yarn pieces stuck on you.

To me buying a brand new sweater in order to recycle the yarn kind of defeats the whole point for me the idea is to take a sweater that is no longer wanted or usable maybe it has a hole in it maybe some of the yarn has come undone maybe it has a stain somewhere on

I would be nervous getting a sweater for this purpose without being able to inspect the construction. Not all garments can be recycled because sometimes the sides are cut and you would end up with a single strand for every row. I am glad it worked out for you ❤
