Great video Matt. I'm so glad you're enjoying it.The Boost is actually 13.6 psi and we tuned at a solid 12 to 1 AF. I would like to change the trans fluid, I have a secret combination of fluid we've had very good luck with and makes the trans slicker. Most of the whine you hear is from the cog belt, the blower is actually pretty quiet. Look forward to a future venture and thanks so much for steering your fans to our channel. :) I'm so happy you like it.
Why are some people making a big deal that Matt is whining about some of the things he wants to change on the s2000. His channel is about being obsessed , his expectation and standard is higher than most when it comes to the things he cares about. Thanks for the upload Matt.
probably because when Matt widens his areas of content in the channel like honda and mustang content (no offense to the enthusiasts), he opens himself up for a whole new audience that only want him to drool over what they would drool over. they don't understand the original Obsessed Garage concept and content.
santrade10 my only criticism is that he chooses the most expensive parts over the better engineered reasonably priced parts. For example, Ohlins over KWs on the AP2, everybody knows the KWs are a better engineered suspension when it comes to the AP series chassis . Seems more for status than the pursuit of perfection IMO, with that said I enjoy the channel for detailing tips rather than choosing the perfect performance part for a specific vehicle
Great video. Can't understand why people are complaining. He just got the car back. After every build, you have to dial it in. The whole point of this channel is about perfection. I like that fact that Matt will nit pick at everything. He's saying what he's thinking and how he's going to get it the way he wants it. If the car does not drive or sound the way it does, fix it. That's what Matt is doing and he's just letting us know. Other car videos are just young kids throwing money at their car and thinking it's better. This channel actually tells you the ups and downs of the process of doing something right and the time and attention it needs to get there. Can't wait to see future videos of this car and see the finished product.
S2000s have an electronic steering rack, not hydraulic. If you feel like the steering effort is too high, you can remove some caster from the alignment. That will make the wheel easier to turn. In regards to the drone, I have yet to see a full 70mm off the shelf exhaust for the S2000 that doesn't produce some degree of boomy drone. I run a J's Header, T1R resonated test pipe, and a highly modified Invidia Q300. I welded in a larger resonator and cut the megaphone tips off for thicker straight through schedule 40 tips. There are also built in silencers in the mufflers which I cut out as well. The Greddy 70mm Spectrum Elite on my AP2 has these same stupid silencer/restrictor pipes in the muffler, so that is why I just started with the cheaper Invidia to hack up. So 2 mufflers and 2 resonators and there is still a degree of drone, but it is tolerable now. I have BC Stg 2 cams, which doesn't help with noise. The problem is that when you have a head that flows as awesome as the F series do, the impact of that flow is increased noise levels. I hope that helps. I am looking forward to see more updates on this car. Oh and P.S. try a set of quality pads like Carbotech XP8s before making the decision to shell out for big brakes. I think you will be surprised how much of a difference just the pads make will make. Unless of course you just don't want to look at the single piston calipers anymore.
i have a q300 on my car unmodified i have a really deep tone when accelerating bust once im cruising its quiet like stock. is this because im still running the stock cat? i mean the s2000 cabin has no real insulation to stop the exhaust sound from coming in i think might be the issue.
I don't know why I haven't seen anyone comment on this yet, but the drone could very well be due to the changes to the resonator during install. The neck length is one of the key parts to a helmholtz resonator and they added a good 4 inches to the neck. Completely changes the attenuation characteristics.
1. Hes running a testpipe. Adding a high-flow cat will help with the noise issue. 2. He spends most of the time driving in 4th and 5th... S2000's have 6 gears.. Its his driving style
Resonators wouldn't really dampen drone, per se. If I were him, I'd stop whining like a little bitch and identify at what RPM range he hears drone. Then weld in some J-pipes that would cancel out that drone (see helmholtz resonator en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helmholtz_resonance#Applications).
thebestnumber1 Or he could stop whine more than his supercharger and grow some balls haha. No one buys an S2000 for comfort. They're sports cars.. Should of just got a prius
maybe I'm the only 18 year old not butthurt in the comment section but i just wanted to say thanks for the video. Im not a honda guy but you managed to keep me tuned in for the whole video.
The Kraftwerks kit sounds absolutely amazing. I'm excited to see what happens with this car as time progresses. Congratulations Matt, this car is flat out awesome.
For the drone, obviously a resonator might work (hope and a dream). They also make side branch resonators that work fantastically for some setups. Another thing that adds to drone is sharp turns in an exhaust. If you can turn two 90s into two 45* turns, you'll get less resonance.
I think that car sounds great from both ends when you are on the power. Great job by LHT and yourself for bringing it together. Keep up our vehicle obsessions!
There is nothing like watching a grown dude grin ear to ear watching him drive his car. Nice work, Matt. I love how you stick to your routes no matter how far you have come. Can't wait for "phase 2" of this car and see where you take it. Please, please do some volk ze40's or ce28's in bronze with a red stoptech bbk. Would look killer!
Matt, I used to run the Clutch Masters stage 3 clutch in my integra in the mid 90's and loved it. Glad to hear they still provide great products on other models.
Wow the second you lowered the window the sound that thing makes omg!! This has been my dream car ever since high school. Don't get rid of the exhaust. Add some resonators to that thing to help. They look and sound insane

Its the closest oem looking exhaust too if youre looking for that simple look.
Cool new project Matt enjoy it, sucks that FL roads are so boring you can't enjoy the Corning capabilities of your cars. Get the S2000 up to Blue Ridge soon
When I switched over to the clutchmasters FX300 in my 2004 with 46k miles I noticed that the 3rd gear shift became much more notchy and difficult to hit properly. I suspect the clutchmasters disc is much heavier than stock so stresses the syncros more.
And he returned first with a burnt clutch and then got rid of the car altogether. Not LHT fault. LHT does great work. Matt just was not aware of how an S2k is
@@ObsessedGarage circling back a couple years later.... yes I do. My kraftwerks s2000 with the clutch masters fx300 SUCKED. The clutch was great at first but rapidly got chattery. Within 1000mi. The supercharger kit had multiple failure points. Backing out bolts with locktite, excessive belt wear, so much noise, overheating supercharger unit... etc etc etc. I ended up sending my unit overseas to the manu and they took 6 weeks to tell me that they would not cover the warrant claim. What a waste of $11k all in. I know that pennies to you but that was 3years of savings to me.no wonder LHT stopped installing these kits. Sorry you said I didn’t know anything.
First time seeing you that happy driving a car! Really nice to see! Happy for you living your old dreams! Soon enough ill live mine! Keep up the great work!
Drove my S2000 after having driven my Vette and Viper for months, and wow, it is a gutless machine stock. When I purchased it back in 2007 I thought it was a rocket. Now, it's hilarious how powerless it is. If I do decide to mod the car, LHT will have my business for sure. I really like their approach and the results they get from the Kraftwerks kit. Good choice.
really not sure why everyone is complaining. i thought it was a great video, with alot of good information in it. i personally HATE droning, so its good to know what works and doesnt. ive had 3 S2k's in the past, and im looking to pick up another one here soon. good info, good video. keep it up
Add a resonator before ditching it. The first thing I'd do is fix the convertible tops creaking. The supercharger sounds like my 2010 triumph street triple r and the drone with the TOR's exhaust, sounds awesome.
As a Honda lover myself. I was looking at buying a regular S2K and same issue. Cant get the knees under the wheel. I'm a bit beefier than you though. I'm 6 foot 2 and 270. Few more pounds and I may pull the trigger. I'm 47 and don't mind a bit of drone and the SC whine is fantastic!
dont do spacers if you already plan on wheels just chill and wait. also you probably need camber arms for the rear since its been lowered the stock arms won't be able to accommodate.
I hear you on the drone. It's the biggest non-starter I have for an exhaust. The only exhausts I've found for domestics that have effectively killed the drone, have been Borla ATAKs and Corsas -- they're just so darned loud (you've heard the C5).
I have the Greddy dual SE exhaust on my S (previous owner had it installed). The drone was hard to bear at first, but you quickly get used to it. It doesn't bother me anymore.
Not sure where I found the time to read some of these idiots' comments. But anyway, just wanted to say congrats man, the build turned out sweet! There is always that moment of question right after modifying something of whether it was the right choice--modding remorse as I say--it only lasts a second. Can't wait to see the next project. Keep on working hard!
Yeah...that pause I always get blowing completely out of proportion simple modification choices I've made. My mind automatically goes into panic worst case scenario mode.
Nice man! Car looks great. Personally I wouldn't mess up a stock CR in that condition but knowing your history with the s2000 and the fact that you already have had two... I can see why you did it.
I agree with you on the Clutchmasters FX300 clutch, or whatever it's called. I put one on my car as well. PITA to install, but once it was done, wow, so much better than stock.
Eddie Kuhn I think someone commented on the previous video that these diffs take a shit ton of power. Someone was running a LS in one at 600ish atw stock diff
It's funny (ironic) how this car showed up for sale after you brought the silver(gray) S2000, just when you settle for something, what you really want is around the corner, this one is nice, wish you could have kept both as a collector😬
So being a fellow Floridian S2000 owner, you're certainly solidifying my desire to go to LHT for this kit! On the exhaust part, I know that one way you can get rid of the drone is to get rid of that test pipe. Go to a High Flow Cat. I'm running the Berk 70mm HFC with Q300 dual. Drone is minimal with that and I get a really nice note out of that combo. Or you could just go back to LHT and do their custom exhaust! Another suggestion before you try the spacers would be to just raise it half an inch to an inch and get a better alignment. On the 3rd gear problem your encountering, that's something I deal with occasionally in mine. I think every few S2000's have this problem and for the most part you just need to be more aware and firm with your shifting. Even then, sometimes it may occasionally jump out of 3rd. That car was once supercharged. I worked with the previous owners nephew. So I wouldn't worry about what people are saying about ruining a CR.
Really? Because when I talked to John at LHT about supercharging my S2000 a while back I told him that I had the Berk HFC and he told me that while a test pipe is what they do with their kit, if I wanted to keep my current exhaust and HFC then they would add the header and it would be just fine.
Eddie Kuhn I don't disagree that a test pipe is better for exhaust flow and there for performance, but a HFC is still acceptable to use. Something I was told by a professional, whom I am betting is more experienced in this matter than anyone else that is going to comment on this.
Matt, I'm completely uneducated on the S2000 but here's an idea. If the S2000 is a remote mounted shifter design that might be the reason you keep hitting the shifter "gates" and having issues getting it into gear under load at high RPMs. Stiffer motor or transmission mounts could aid in the misalignment because the transmission is torquing to the side causing the gate not to be where you expect it to be on upshifts. When the shifter is mounted to the body you have these misalignment issues because the shifter and transmission don't move together. -Adam
Imo I think the HKS hi power sounds the best. It's low and deep tone and lightly drones around 3k-4k rpms. Plus it's one of the cheaper exhausts ($600))
Have you drove it with the track off yet? Car looks and sounds great to me. Yes I am someone who has said I couldn't have changed the CR but you are doing a great build & doing it right Sir. Thank you for the channel and as always have fun and be safe.
As for the brakes I know you are driving what is still a very new car as far as mileage. You could also try steel braided lines and a more aggressive pad. I have braided lines and hawk ph+ pads on my 07 S2K and love them. I do plan on running a bigger calipers in the future & yes I'm looking at getting "spoon calipers" even though I have read there not really any better then stock. The only downside that I'm sure you may not like is there are loud and make a lot of brake dust. So maybe they won't work for you. As for the clutch maybe it just needs to be broke in more. I do like clutch masters I have used them many times before in my other Hondas. Being that my plans are to keep my S2K 07 N/A I'm going to be changing my flywheel to the ap1 and run the ap2 clutch.
Hey dude Im glad you got this car it looks and appears to perform awesome... Support from Venezuela dude I wish I could get into the detailing industry I LOVE IT but that's just impossible living here... It makes me so sad sometimes to watch your videos, because I'd love to do what yu do and make a living of it... But I know I'll never will and I just have to settle with being a mechanic working for someone else I hope you continue making detailing videos as it's good to at least watch someone do it... What a shame Im 21 y.o and I cant even make a living for myself working my ass off... Stay safe dude see you on the next one
So sad when I read these comments... This channel was made for the obsessed, but since you started your collaboration with Adam LZ a lot of not so bright people have subscribed to you, Matt. Fortunately your content is spot on, so you can ignore the comments. I like it when you are saying what could be better.
TH-cam is the top of the funnel for the Obsessed Garage community that has happened as a result of me giving myself permission that it's okay to obsess. The next step would be to join the Facebook Group. I'm now working toward creating even more specific subsections of the community for those that really get it and want to be a part of something. Don't get too hung up on the comments on TH-cam. All are welcome here. That is not the case as you work your way to building your own relationships with others that share your focused life path.
Thanks for keeping it honest, that you want to make this thing better in pretty much every way. People are so weak-willed telling you to just drive it and not complain. If you're a gear head, you fix stuff. That's what you do. And when a car is this nice, you fix small stuff until it's a masterpiece. Then you buy something else to fix probably.
Yep... The part that people don't get is that I'm complaining. I'm sharing my thought process. Most people share their wins. I share the whole thing. In modifying a car more than half the stuff tends to have issues. I got pretty close with round one. Round 2 will be better and so on.
Matt, I read the car Detailing article in the WSJ this morning and I was surprised you were not mentioned. A good plug for AmmoNYC and Larry though. I was SUER you would have been in there after seeing the title of the article.
My wife watches me watching your videos and she thinks we're both nuts :) When she saw me reading the article this morning she asked me if that's the guy I watch on youtube..... LOL!
It's sad that when you shift to a build that attracts a younger demographic things get out of whack. These comments are brutal. And they're only going to get worst!!
"younger demographic" i'm 20 and have followed Matt for a long time now it's got nothing to do with age, there is two kinds of people viewing his videos those of us who are crazy about cars and then the arsewipes, the arsewipes are the problem, not a younger demographic. I'm not being conflicting about your comment in an aggressive manner but younger generations get written off or overlooked because of stereotypes of an extremely small percentage of people and it's not fair, i know a shit tonne more about cars generally speaking than anyone i personally know excluding a workshop owner (family member).
Being in my mid 30's, your gripes are similar to mine with modded cars lol. I suggest swapping out your exhaust for an Invidia Q300 if you want a quieter exhaust without needing retuning. It will still drone to some degree but I don't think anything is quieter that is free flowing.
Let me make a few suggestions if you haven't bought an exhaust or wheels yet Wheels: Volk ZE-40 Exhaust: Greddy Spectrum Elite or Tanabe Medallion Touring. Keep up the quality work and the build is crazy!!!
If StopTech makes one for the S2000 the Trophy kit would be my choice. The unpainted, raw aluminium calipers are a nice change from the red, yellow, and black calipers out there. Not to mention the crazy light weight. Edit. The rattle from the roof cover would drive me crazy too, time for some Tesa tape and foam.
Take note everyone. This is why you spend hours to days researching aftermarket parts and reviews of those parts. You don't want to throw money at parts you think are the best because of how expensive they are. I'm sorry but Toda header + exhaust is a loud combination. The drone might be from the modifications from the exhaust and if it bothers you that much, why didn't you tell LHT to give you a heads up when something didn't fit right? You were there after all. You could have ordered a different exhaust and saved yourself time. LHT did a fantastic job considering they configured your suspension to your liking. I can't believe you didn't know it was going to settle and lower. I would just be glad LHT did the work they did. Most shops would have installed the exhaust without making the mufflers look symmetrical. It sounds like you are trying to blame LHT without coming out and fully saying it.
What are you talking about? Did you watch the install videos? I was telling you what I decided to do on the initial install and am now telling you the result. I'm am then explaining what I'm going to do to tweak it. All that other stuff you are making up.
lol, why are people complaining? I honestly found this video entertaining, the man has a good speaker voice as well and sounds educated. I guess the first few mins were kind of rambly but when he turns on the car and starts driving, that beautiful sound kept me watching. PS* Where are you from? Those roads are beauuutiful and i'd love to drive on those, would cruise through them for the whole day.

i agree. no s2000 aftermarket exhaust thats 70mm will be quite. if you want quite run the stock exhaust. my berk exhaust is loud as shit lol
The honeycombs in the cat will eat up some of the noise. A thinner walled header will also increase noise as well.

That is exactly what I was thinking.
Add a resonator to the exhaust system. That should help eliminate the drone and keep the rest of the exhaust that you forked out a lot of money for.
GForceConnections yup, it's an easy fix. Really. No need for an entirely new system..
Yeah I used a Billy Boat Timbre cylinder (helmholtz tech) and it works great! The only question is if there is any room to add one.

Add a resonator before ditching it. The first thing I'd do is fix the convertible tops creaking. The supercharger sounds like my 2010 triumph street triple r and the drone with the TOR's exhaust, sounds awesome.
Finally, a black car. Cannot wait to see the detailing videos on this one.
Nicest S2k out there Matt, I'm definitely subscribing thanks to this video! Great build and can't wait to see more of it!
Thanks man.
dont do spacers if you already plan on wheels just chill and wait. also you probably need camber arms for the rear since its been lowered the stock arms won't be able to accommodate.
I hear you on the drone. It's the biggest non-starter I have for an exhaust. The only exhausts I've found for domestics that have effectively killed the drone, have been Borla ATAKs and Corsas -- they're just so darned loud (you've heard the C5).
Cool to see how much emotions you get from driving that thing.
I have the Greddy dual SE exhaust on my S (previous owner had it installed). The drone was hard to bear at first, but you quickly get used to it. It doesn't bother me anymore.
this car is a monster with a turbe! If this had come out with turbo there would have been no competitor in its class back then
11:45 is what you came for. God that sounds beautiful.
What a beauty! Congrats on your new S2000 CR
Thanks!
12:15 that's exactly the feeling, you were so serious throughout the whole thing, and you jusr cracked me up with that laugh, Amazing!
Man sounds amazing when you revved it out. Can't wait once you break it in and go all out.
Nice man! Car looks great. Personally I wouldn't mess up a stock CR in that condition but knowing your history with the s2000 and the fact that you already have had two... I can see why you did it.
I've been watching for along time and I also have an s2000. Keep it up!
I agree with you on the Clutchmasters FX300 clutch, or whatever it's called. I put one on my car as well. PITA to install, but once it was done, wow, so much better than stock.
ey I'm sitting here in my couch and I'm smilin with you. car sounds great!
Rather than bbk, if you're not going to track it, try Project Mu pads. 800 front and 400 rear. Lovely car with all the right bits.
Last 10 seconds was the best. "Equal supercharger and exhaust" haha. Love it. Sounds amazing!
Alright Matt, black car. There you go! Better you than me, been there not going to do that again. Hope to learn some new tricks. I tried them all.
I wasn't sure I would like your s2000, Matt, but i am now digging it. lol. Coming along!
Dude love ur videos. I own two S2K myself and I love it. Best gear box ever. Perfect Sports car ever built.
Best gear box was the 6MT in my 2000 NSX. I have previously owned a 2002 and 2004 S2000.
The Mugen exhaust is light and has no drone, Matt. Top notch quality
It's too small for use with the supercharager or I'd be all over it.
Awesome video, as usual! Screw the haters, only the obsessed understand. You're an inspiration! Keep it up, Matt!
Yep...
I'm here to watch the review of the Kraftwerks supercharger, but damn... That paint is just damn spot on!
The footwork on the downshifts was amazing!!
Drone was 80% the reason why I went for a Corsa exhaust instead of like a MBRP. Costed double but worth it in the long run
You'll have to upload a 0-60 once everything is broke in for us.
no launches on this diff.
Eddie Kuhn I think someone commented on the previous video that these diffs take a shit ton of power. Someone was running a LS in one at 600ish atw stock diff
no way dude, these diffs are glass. wouldnt launch anything over 400whp on them.
The car is turning out awesome matt. It seems very quick.
Good job on the s2000 !congrats Matt.
It's funny (ironic) how this car showed up for sale after you brought the silver(gray) S2000, just when you settle for something, what you really want is around the corner, this one is nice, wish you could have kept both as a collector😬
The supercharger sounds like an old school dragster blower. sweet!
HFC and supercharger is a nono
Really? Because when I talked to John at LHT about supercharging my S2000 a while back I told him that I had the Berk HFC and he told me that while a test pipe is what they do with their kit, if I wanted to keep my current exhaust and HFC then they would add the header and it would be just fine.
the HFC is nowhere near as reliable as a test piper under immense pressure.
Eddie Kuhn I don't disagree that a test pipe is better for exhaust flow and there for performance, but a HFC is still acceptable to use. Something I was told by a professional, whom I am betting is more experienced in this matter than anyone else that is going to comment on this.
Thanks for the ride in the S2000, the supercharger is sweet.
-Adam
Nice. Keep doing what you're doing Matt. If there's only one way.....its The Obsessed Garage way.
You know I will.
Imo I think the HKS hi power sounds the best. It's low and deep tone and lightly drones around 3k-4k rpms. Plus it's one of the cheaper exhausts ($600))
SendTorquez have the single and it’s the the best exhaust I’ve heard in my opinion
@@nickolas1108 oh yeah the single is a bit louder. I bought the duals cus i liked how it looks but ill go single if I boost
Sick first video! Would be awesome if you made more videos about financials since it is your expertise.
Thank God. I have been waiting for this like a fat kid waiting for cake.
Great build Matt! This is my new car on the channel.
Wow what an awesome video, and the sound of that engine is amazing. Makes me what an S2000.
I was smiling and I wasn't even in the car. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.
Tanabe Touring Medalion is the way to go for exhaust. Very quiet until you go full throttle.
Matt,
I read the car Detailing article in the WSJ this morning and I was surprised you were not mentioned. A good plug for AmmoNYC and Larry though. I was SUER you would have been in there after seeing the title of the article.
I didn't see it. That's cool for Larry.
Today's WSJ towards the back.
My wife watches me watching your videos and she thinks we're both nuts :) When she saw me reading the article this morning she asked me if that's the guy I watch on youtube..... LOL!
I like the stanced look lol honestly that s2k imo is perfect... but we all have different taste and usage for the vehicle lol
7:00 for first drive :)
I need a supercharged S2000. I need one now.
It's sad that when you shift to a build that attracts a younger demographic things get out of whack. These comments are brutal. And they're only going to get worst!!
Was about to say the same thing.
Its sad.
I think they will come around. When they realize I know what I'm talking about, they'll either wisen up or leave.
Obsessed Garage Or can't stand how obsessed you and most of us are haha
"younger demographic" i'm 20 and have followed Matt for a long time now it's got nothing to do with age, there is two kinds of people viewing his videos those of us who are crazy about cars and then the arsewipes, the arsewipes are the problem, not a younger demographic. I'm not being conflicting about your comment in an aggressive manner but younger generations get written off or overlooked because of stereotypes of an extremely small percentage of people and it's not fair, i know a shit tonne more about cars generally speaking than anyone i personally know excluding a workshop owner (family member).
You need a stiffer front sway bar, especially with square setup. I would also recommend steering rack bushings.
Being in my mid 30's, your gripes are similar to mine with modded cars lol. I suggest swapping out your exhaust for an Invidia Q300 if you want a quieter exhaust without needing retuning. It will still drone to some degree but I don't think anything is quieter that is free flowing.
Let me make a few suggestions if you haven't bought an exhaust or wheels yet
Wheels: Volk ZE-40
Exhaust: Greddy Spectrum Elite or Tanabe Medallion Touring.
Keep up the quality work and the build is crazy!!!
Seeing this after my Crapwerks kit took a shit on me, makes me miss it :( First ever recorded problem according to them with the 30mm setup.
It needs an adjustment. I'll work on it this weekend. Oh...and do some complaining.
Those shifts are so satisfying
All that other stuff you are making up.
this is beautiful. Hopefully I can get a S2000/CR by next year.
Try adding hemholtz resonators to that exhaust. Tom’s Turbo Garage did a video on the details
Now you have to goto Tail of the Dragon. I just did it on Tuesday in an f-150. lol
lol, why are people complaining?
I honestly found this video entertaining, the man has a good speaker voice as well and sounds educated.
I guess the first few mins were kind of rambly but when he turns on the car and starts driving, that beautiful sound kept me watching.
PS* Where are you from? Those roads are beauuutiful and i'd love to drive on those, would cruise through them for the whole day.
I live about an hour north of Orlando.
Sounds like a motorcycle with strait cut gears. Very nice.
Hey matt MicroFiber guy in Hawaii, congrats on this next S2000 brother, I like it
Thanks Brent!
