I think Imperial might have taken Manchester's crown of 'The Team Everyone Wants To Beat or TTEWTB' after that domination - not even slightly close, but let's see if it can be replicated against better opponents. Imperial's track record though in this competition does give good reason to think they could again have a deep run - helps the buzzing was also spread with both Mr Spyr and Mr Salamanca Camacho getting 6 starters-for-ten ;).
@@pattheplanter Manchester were pretty nervous on the buzzer side of things - considering how often they buzzed incorrectly, I am not sure them being quicker would have made much of a difference.
I wouldn’t be surprised if some team (Imperial, perhaps?) has analyzed _all_ the questions they can get their hands on, possibly with the help of an LLM, and figured out which questions or types of questions tend to recur in these matches. (Seems like there’s at least one every series having to do with the Chicxulub crater and the K-T boundary and one having to do with Winston Churchill as an MP before becoming Prime Minister.)

Hello again! Late to tis, the day after actually. Bur we have yet another contender for the crown of "Stongest Team." Given their recent history, it's never wise to bet against Imperial. The losing just team had no chance in this one. My best to both teams, and to each individual.

A tough team to beat in the future, but they might be a bit weak in the arts/literature areas. Spry and Salamanca Camacho, in particular, were excellent.

They missed and messed up so many sitters, and to top it all spent invaluable time discussing when they clearly had no clue to even guess. I wonder how they selected their team. Maintaining my personal record of scoring somewhere between the winners and losers, with a score of 170 (6 starters plus 22 bonuses) . Since I'm a science illiterate I'm feeling pretty good about it.
Imperial's bizarre 'Chomsky"(!) response to the 'triumph of capitalism over communism' question at 13'15" perfectly illustrates how even the brightest students remain relatively and 'usefully' clueless(universally challenged ?) when it comes to major geopolitical events and issues from circa 1950 to the present day - but especially re US-related geopolitics. No guesses as to who's largely responsible for that continuing geopolitical ignorance, incuriosity or fuzziness...
My guess is because in the early 20th century, a whole raft of immigrants from (mainly) Eastern Europe came to America seeking a new life. Many were musicians who played the same kind of music you hear in the music round, and they got jobs in the then booming film and cartoon industry. They composed and played music in their home style, hence the similarities 😃
The amount of Literature questions fluffed was unbelievable! For one, that was clearly not the Brontës! Additionally, Emily Dickinson is quite clearly renowned for her use of the dash…

Hi! I'm one of the Imperial team members. We aren't given any info on what topics might come up, but simply distribute areas of knowledge between us following interests and expertises. The only information we have from the program is all the questions that have come up in previous seasons.

That is *not* how Rhapsody in Blue begins, either orchestral or piano solo - I know, I had to learn the bloody thing. This was a tough round, especially for a 1st round. I only got one no-answer, although did know a few starters and boni. PS Stokes is babelicious. 😍
Im a very disappointed Manchester fan. They struggled the entire match. Even in the last question "a small mountain lake" they were scrabbling around. Of course Imperial were brilliant, yet the plot was lost early on and continued to the death. I hope the selection committee at Manchester sort their act out. This was a huge thrashing.
This was one of those matches.... sigh... As usual, someone, somewhere is always shouting an answer... in my case: CHILE!!!, but that's just because I'm Chilean and I know the name of the observatories in Atacama very well. xD
Paxman was ever the 'form master' with 'come, come' and all that. He was hugely enjoyable to watch and I mainly watched the programme for him. His replacement is efficient, but far less interesting, which, I suppose, gives the participants a chance to shine. Salamanca Camacho is outstanding, but has anyone been identified yet as the 'series personality' this year?

As a teacher - and, yes, I did have quiz days that were just for fun (and great reinforcement) - I like Rajan much more. Paxman was the taskmaster. Rajan is all about fun.

It was closer than it may have seemed unless you noticed Manchester buzzing a fraction of a second late on many starters, as Amol noted.
