Hot in Cleveland revolves around three fabulous L.A. women of a certain age who are best friends( Valerie Bertinelli , Jane Leeves and Wendie Malick.) Their lives are changed forever when their plane -- headed to Paris for a girls-only celebration -- unexpectedly lands in Cleveland and they soon rediscover themselves in a new 'promised land'. Loving their new home, the women find themselves living under one roof and battling the sassy caretaker (Betty White) of the property they have rented.

Elka was like all of the Golden Girls wrapped up into one. She had the best insults and comebacks, just like Dorothy and Sophia, she had the best sexual innuendoes like Blanche and she could have the sweet, innocent demeanor like Rose. Betty White hit that role right out of the ballpark.

We all are. Lives lived with authenticity that make a difference are hard to part with. Betty’s talent and the years of laughs and tears go without saying. Yet her love of animals and her ability to touch, see and love their souls will be her enduring gift that will carry her into the next life. She made a difference and has managed to leave this world loved and without a bad word to be said of her. That is not a small accomplishment and invaluable. God is humble and knows that her Allan, parents and the souls of so many animals were there to celebrate and give thanks for her arrival. It’s their turn now!

While I'm with you and can't believe she is truly gone, at least she was 99 and that's a full and wonderful life. Why keep being sad she made the world brighter for that long?

Betty White's character made and carried this show. Even though they only had 6 seasons if she wasn't a part of Hot In Cleveland, I guarantee it would not have lasted as long as it did. No offense to the other actresses but Betty and her character actually made things fun and interesting to watch.
"only six seasons"? That's a very successful long run for a show!
@@tinaperez7393 - In the 1970's and before yes, but in today's Hollywood status standards it's just okay. Typically a show that has 7 - 8 seasons or more is considered a long running successful hit. But I'm not the one who came up with these statistics. No matter what they still had a decent run. But hot in Cleveland was one of those shows where it's really hard for the writers to figure out what else to do with the characters. There comes a point when people run out of ideas.
The actresses seemed to lack the ‘zing’ which Betty’s Elka had in abundance!

Elka: a combination of Rose Nylund and Sophia Petrillo. Working on the Golden Girls payed off for Betty White
The comic sides of Sophia and Elka are a lot like, for sure...but Sophia was Dorothy's mother, and said several times she considered Rose and Blanche daughters too. I don't sense that Elka feels that way about the other ladies, or them about her. (The other three are long-time friends and they met her more recently.)

There was a scene in a "Hot in Cleveland" where Elka imagines herself being a mother. Elka is the mother to kid versions of Victoria, Joy, and Melanie. Yes, the dynamic of mother-daughter is not comparable to Sophia with Blance and Rose. However, Elka does consider the three their daughters to an extent.
