Gabriel, I talked about gender in Portuguese in my 7th video: th-cam.com/video/d-pSRVsmrBc/w-d-xo.html You might find some useful tips over there, but it can be tricky sometimes. There isn't a universal rule, the best way to learn it is by practicing.
Eai garotinha como tao as coinsas por ai .que bom parece que vc tem muito material de aula acho que eu vou estar estudando um pouco mais bom trabalho seguire enfrente ate logo de novo obrigado,,
Obrigado! I was so confused about the use of the definite article. I speak Spanish and we don't use it...we just say "este es mi lapiz" "esta es mi pluma". Very helpful video, gracias!
The use of articles before possessive pronouns is optional in most cases, and it's normally used to emphasize the idea of possession. The exception to that is when the object of possession was mentioned earlier in the sentence. For example: Falando em carros, onde você comprou o seu? (Talking about cars, where did you buy yours?) Let me know if it helps.
Both forms are accepted, so it’s common to mix them. The only situation in which we must use the article before the pronoun is when it’s equivalent to mine/yours/his... in English, o meu/a minha/o seu/a sua/o dele/a dele. The article just adds an idea of closeness.
i wrote ''a vaca e a sua'', but the correction told me it was without the a infront of the pronoun D:< i just don't know when i should use the a or o infront of it
If you meant “the cow is yours”, it translates to “a vaca é sua”. You would use the a in a sentence like “the cow that is sick is yours”, a vaca que está doente é a sua. Because it could be someone else’s cow.
Hello Rusty, I don't understand why personal pronouns "ele/ ela/ você and eles/ elas/ vocês ' have SAME possessive adjectives. This part is one of the irksome chapters of Portuguese Learning. If i wanna say, • His/ her car - seu carro. • Their car - seu carro ? I hope you understand my doubt and cooperate me as soon as possible. Thanks.
+pranit bhagat that is correct, but I don't know how to explain why. It's like "your" in English that is used for both singular and plural you. I can only tell you that since você and vocês are conjugated as the third person of singular and plural, respectively, the possessive is the same, "seu". To be honest, I'm native and I think this is a little odd too, mostly because I don't use it. At least in Brazilian Portuguese, we often say "o carro dele/dela/deles", and "seu" is used with "você" like "Onde você estacionou o seu carro?". I hope this helps.
Alright. Thanks for your comment. Google Translator shows that , • o carro dele- his car • o carro deles- their (male) car. I expect it may solve my confusion. Muito obrigado.
The reason is because você is not a personal pronoun, it is a treatment composition of the same kind as Your Majesty in English. Therefore it borrows the auxiliary pronouns of the third person, and also the verb conjugations. Você is a short form of Vossa Mercê, which means Your Grace. The "true" second person pronouns should be tu and vós, which have their own auxiliary pronouns.

@@HelloRusty welcom
I finally understand
Why do you add “as” in front of “minhas canetas” but not “os” in front of “meus lápis”?
Thanks in advance
